I was eagerly awaiting their arrival. Today when I went down to my mailbox, what did I see through the little window? The yellow manilla folder I had sent to my branch. My tapes had arrived! I opened up the mailbox and took out the package. "Geez, this sure seems light," I thought to myself. Then I realized the reason why. The package was cleanly ripped down the center and on one of the ends. Black little stamps attempted to explain what had happened. One of them read, 'DAMAGED IN HANDLING IN THE POSTAL SERVICE.' The other one read, 'Received without contents at Sand Diego, CA.' I was utterly crushed. There I was holding an empty envelope, thinking how ironic the situation was. So a warning to all you eager fans mailing out tapes. Make sure you use something stronger than a manila envelope. If anybody has any suggestions as to how to package the tapes, I'd love to hear. I am also wondering if anybody else was at this show. During her performance at Slim's in S.F. she mentioned an ironic and concidental event that happened at her show. As some of you know, the song My Private God's Gift to Women was 'inspired' by a weirdo who picked her while she was hitchhiking. [No, she didn't try to seduce and then kill him.] She claimed that at her show in Boulder, a few days ago, this same guy was in attendence, just a few rows from the front. She said that on the one hand, he was embarrassed when she sang the song. But he was also sorta proud that a he had inspired the song. "He was just. . . weird," she finished. So I just wanna know more details about this amusing story. jason ------------------------------ From: diciccda@saber.udayton.edu Date: Fri, 1 Mar 1996 08:11:43 -0500 Subject: Re: Post Office Horror Story I feel really bad about what happened to Jason. :-( I suggest getting "the small, cushion-lined envelopes" at the post office. They cost about $.60 and they have a "bubble-wrap" lining. I never have had any damage, so far. I always ask for "the small, cushion-lined envelopes" and the postal clerks always seem to know what I mean. They haven't shot me yet. :-) I hope this helps Jason or anyone else unsure on how to package tapes. I hope you're going to talk to your branch about getting new copies. You're right, manilla envelopes are not the things to use with tapes. You want padded envelopes, like the kinds you can buy at the post office. They come in all sizes, but try and get the smallest one that will fit your tapes. If you start trading tapes you will soon get quite a collection of these envelopes (of course you should reuse them). I also reccomend that people don't send the cases with the tapes when they trade, because I've found that they usually come back cracked. As long as both parties keep them, you won't have a problem. Hope this helps someone out. ---------K e n---------- <> walden@bluefin.net http://www.bluefin.net/~wink "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ------------------------------ From: "damon schmidt" Date: Fri, 1 Mar 96 09:47:59 -0600 Subject: Re: blue guitar??? Hi, everyone-- Just wanted to alert you, particularly any of you in Seattle, that the Tower Records in the University District is giving away copies of _Save The Linoleum_ this morning. A friend just came by and brought me one. I already have it, so the first person to email me can have it for the cost of postage ($1 in the U.S.). - --Neile ------------------------------ From: Neile Graham Date: Fri, 1 Mar 1996 09:18:17 -0800 (PST) Subject: My extra copy of StL claimed already! Hi, just wanted to alert everyone right away that the copy was claimed even before my message bounced back from the list to me. However, this means that more copies should be appearing around, so keep your eyes open if you're still looking for this! - --Neile ------------------------------ From: Aaron Andrew Cooke Date: Fri, 1 Mar 1996 13:04:44 -0500 Subject: save the linoleum Hi. Just a quick note. I got my copy of Save the Linoleum from a mail order company. They are still advertising it so I assume they have more. The bad news...it cost $19 after postage. But hey, it's Jewel. I don't know they info on the company right off hand but I'll post it here soon. He's hoping to catch the show tomorrow, since he missed her when she was here. I'm hoping he gets in, too, 'cause he's my chance at a T-shirt (and maybe a promo disc or something, if I'm really lucky - got my fingers crossed). Is there any chance he'll get in (he doesn't have tickets yet)? Anybody have an extra ticket? I'll be so envious if he does see the show, since he'll get to see these Rugburns guys too. Anyway, if you see a guy at the show with short, dark hair and a little grey tuft in the back, say hi to Harris for me.
