Apparently there were some problems with playing the quicktime movies on my page. Hopefully I fixed those problems, along with making the good morning america movie smaller by about 11 megabytes as well. Sorry if I caused any problems for any of you... It is a beautiful album, very well written. It has a wry sense of humor and quite an ironic and poignant tone at times. Especially good are "Cool As I Am", "Christians And Pagans", "Ocean", heck, the whole album is GREAT! Have only listened to it once, but it had a huge impact on me. Also- I didn't get to see the First Ave show in Minneapolis, but my friends at Cheapo got me a flyer...:) No substitute for being there... Hey, I'm at the U of M Twin Cities. It's a closeup headshot of jewel- it apears that she's looking down at her guitar. I knew that web knowledge would pay off one day ;) http://mtv.com/MTVNEWS/images/jewel3.jpg So that's images jewel1-3.jpg, jewel7-8.jpg, anyone seen 4,5,6,>8? I hope i didn't miss a more detailed web page. I will try today to pick up "Mortal City". I'm glad you liked it. If you haven't heard "Honesty Room" try and listen to that one too. I'm just an old folkie from the San Diego area that appreciates all good music, especially songs with intelligent lyrics. I make the music scene locally and often hit the coffee houses. We have others along with Jewel deserving of the "big break". I rank the Joel Raphael Band (Dylanish with a nice sound) and Dandelion Wine (alternative acoustic duo) right at the top. Both have an indy CD out and if you are interested could forward their addresses. Don J PS- DW probably would please the younger audience more. ------------------------------ From: PAUL KYUSAM KIM Date: Mon, 19 Feb 1996 11:42:19 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: Dar Williams and a whole bunch of other stuff On Fri, 16 Feb 1996, Don Johnson wrote: > > Dar Williams is a marvelous singer-songwriter out of the northeast US. > She is possibly the most literate of our current bumper crop of s-sw's. > Her voice is pleasant but rather fragile, not a bit like Jewel. You were on Miami Vice, weren't you? Wow, famous person on the list! Dar Williams is from Northampton, MA (at least that's where she currently lives) which is a hotbed of music. It's also about twenty minutes from my college, Amherst College. She's currently touring with Joan Baez and I think appears on Joan's latest album. Dar mixes humor and lifestories well in her music. I would best compare her to Christine Lavin. Hey person with alias of turtle! You go to towson state? (looked at your e-mail address and it said towson.edu) I'm from MD (Aberdeen, hometown of Cal Ripken) and probably have some aquaintances from my high school there. Mark Miazga, I don't watch PO5. I am interested in what music has been used in the show. I know from various sources that Shawn Colvin, Sarah McLachlan, the Bodeans (I can't believe that using that song as a theme has made them popular. I think they're peachy keen, but it sure has taken them a long time to catch on with the public, and with a song that's aroung three years old), Heather Nova, and Indigo Girls. If you like the show partly because of the cool music, you should watch Due South, Fridays at 8 on CBS. Concerning popularity of Jewel and music in general, I try to be understanding and happy that groups I like are gettin big, but I do get protective and jealous. It's almost childish. I guess I just wanna seem cooler-than-thou by picking up on music acts before they go mainstream. But I my tastes dictate that who I like will be liked by if not a majority, then a large cult-following of people/fans. It's so hard to not name groups and singers that I like or liked that broke kinda big- I'm stuck between sounding like an elite poohead that you wanna beatup (and I know you would want to beat me up because I know people like me and I wanna beat 'em up) and satisfying my urgings to seem cool. The odd thing is, I wanna share my music with my friends and get the music I like more widely known, but I fear them getting too big. I can't explain it all because the thoughts are too big and jumbled in my head. Paul "ahh...Jewel fans. I got another email on friday from the folks at Atlantic congratulating me on winning tickets and backstage passes to see Jewel in Boulder Colorado on the 19th (today). Being at Penn State, you would think the people over there at Atlantic would learn that if i couldnt make it to the SLC show, I probably couldn't make it to the Boulder show either. I better get some nice consolation prices or I might have to sue Atlantic Records for torturing me with these tickets. =) Vanessa vxs112@psu.edu ------------------------------ From: CornFlake Boy Date: Mon, 19 Feb 1996 12:07:14 -0500 (EST) Subject: Rare Radio B'cast - 10/15/95 Hi!
