Hopefully, MTV will choose to include her prominently in this weekends THE WEEK IN ROCK. I saw Jewel in Lex., Ky & in Cinn., OH and I echo the seniments regarding the disrespect that has been put forth. Certainly, being a Jewel affectionato and liking E. McCain are not mutually exclusive, but the two cannot be equitably compared. I just hope that Jewel makes a return in the very near future as the sole performer in small, yet somewhat more intimate environs. G-nite Jake ------------------------------ From: Neal Copperman Date: Fri, 16 Feb 1996 01:56:56 -0500 (EST) Subject: innerchange days tape corrections I'm looking over the tapes Jeff Hanson compiled and are currently being tree'd, and they look great! I've only had a chance to listen to side one so far, but I'm quite happy to have another set of tapes of jewel tunes uninterupted by tuning and stage banter. (Apologies to those who bemoan the absence of those features.) I wanted to make a few corrections to the labeling though. I don't know what various nodes (or whatever they are) are doing for tape inserts, but the ones I have have a few small errors on them. It's perhaps worth noting that song titles are either what Jewel called them at shows or completely made up, and songwriting credits are occasionally assumed. Out of curiosity, since there are three sides of music, what are people doing with the final side of the second tape? Tape 1: When I Was With You is credited to Jewel and Steve Poltz. I believe this is just Jewel. My understanding is that this song was written as an answer song to Pitbull on the first Rugburns album (Morning Wood). Inspired by Steve, but not written with him. Do you know anything different Jeff? Tape 2: Love is a Rose is credited to Jewel and Steve, and someone pointed out that it's actually Neil Young! Jeff and I had never heard it before, and it wasn't credited live, so we assumed it was an original. What Neil Young album is this on, anyway? You'll notice pretty quickly that Where Have You Gone, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean is not only written by Joy Eden Harrison, but sung by her too. Jewel does some great back-up singing on it though. If you like this, Joy's album Angel Town is definitely worth checking out. Listen to this next to The Man Who's Already Gone on the first tape to see Jewel doing Joy's style. The Jewel/Steve songs on the second tape are performed by Jewel and Steve, and some of them also have Gregory Page, bassist of the Rugburns and solo artist himself (The Romantic Adventures of Harry). I'll have to listen more carefully to try to figure out which ones he's on. I leave for Mardi Gras soon and I will really try and get them up soon. I have to transfer the video to VHS tape form 3/4inch tape because I don't have a 3/4inch VTR at home. For Katie, I do remember us asking what her favorite flower was and she said it was a "Dandelion(sp) and it's a pretty good weed." Unfortunatly we were running out of time for the interview so we didn't get through all of them, but I did leave a copy with the tour manager for her to answer. FYI- Jewel stayed at the Holiday Inn at 72nd and Grover. Room 122A was her managers room(where we did the interview) and Jewel stayed in the room next to his. So go pay homage but don't bother who ever is their now! :) The host and I(the camera man) were very nervous being around her. She is so sweet that we didn't want to accidentally offend her. If you were at the Jewel sho then you probably saw me. I was the weirdo with the TV camera. Not only did we get a personal interview w/ Jewel but we were allowed by the manager(s) to tape a few songs. Thanks to the managers for helping us to make our show a success!!! The Jewel show will be on early next week. We taped her performances of Who will save your Soul, You were meant for me, and the Yodelling Song! We just might be airing one of those songs along with her original videos. I am pushing for the Yodelling song myself. I watched that five times when I got back to the studio. WOW! The show is called Secondary Emission on Cox Cable O2TV. Follow this Link for show times. http://www.novia.net/~mossimo/o2tv.html I believe she and Edwin McCain interviews will be on the 18th and 21st. Not sure, so call the station and ask Julie(our Producer) of Secondary Emission! 551-8456 Don't ask for me, I'll be at Mardi Gras! To the guy that said hello to me at the show- GET JONATHAN INTO REHAB!!! HAHAHAHA I can also hear his voice on my show footage of him proclaiming his love, out loud, for Jewel! Some final notes on Jewel herself......She is one of the sweetest people that I have met and if you do get a chance to meet her then consider yourself luckey. She won't be as accessable after shows when she becomes more popular. She is a VERY spiritual person. I don't know if you have ever seen her blush but we made her blush big time when we asked how she felt as being a sex symbol. I think we surprised her with that one. Asked her about the Van that she use to live in and what if she still had it would she trade it in for.....She said anything that could hold her surfboard! When asked about the Neil Youngs Ranch she said that it was very beautiful and that she felt that it was a great honor that she got to play Hank Williams Sr's guitar. I do know she said that she is considering recording a new album soon but gave no specifics. (Is the Yodelling song on any albums?) That would be cool if it was on there!!! hint hint! She was also suprised about the Fruit Rollup pants thing. She didn't realize that it was that big of a deal and that no one even remembered it. To be continued another day with more answers!!! Daniel PS- bring her a Dandelion and Fruit Roll Ups!! Oh yeah, I got Jewel's autograph on her pieces of you album(CD) cover. She drew an angel with it! I really hate my job(major sarcasm) Don't take it personally if she didn't draw it for you. I am sure she was in a hurry. How would you feel if you had to sign your name 30 plus times a day, everyday.
