If you are looking for a Tori clone you are definitely looking in the wrong place. I feel sad that people are drawing comparisons between Tori and Jewel. Tori reminds me of some kind of dead lounge singer who cannot seem to live life. Jewel on the other hand is so full of life and living that I find it a great stretch of the imagination to compare the two. I think Jewel has a lot more in common with Arlo Guthrie that she ever could with Tori Amos. >Listen to who will save your soul and then listed to Tori... BUT, i really liked the CD, good music, good lyrics, good attitude, and so on and so forth. No, no. Henry Miller is one of the most (in)famous American writers of the 20th century. His writing is powerful, direct, sexual. It was banned in the U.S. for many years. You might have heard of the _The Tropic of Cancer_ and _The Tropic of Capricorn_ or _Nexus_ and _Plexus_ even if you have read them. Anais Nin is another 20th century writer, though she is from Europe but did later live in the U.S. She is most famous for her journals, in which she chronicled her affair with Henry Miller (and one with his wife of the time, June. She also wrote erotica (fairly well known) and strange, kind of stream-of-consciousness novels (lesser known). Reading Anais Nin was a revelation to me as an undergrad. I had no idea that people actually wrote about their lives that intensely. She was not a prostitute, and as far as I know restricted her affairs to the human race. An excerpt of her journals was published as _Henry and June_ and a movie was made of it just a few years ago. Uma Thurman was in it but I can't remember who else. - --Neile, who just found a copy of _Phyllis Barnabee_ today! ------------------------------ From: Jon Held Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 18:21:05 -0500 (EST) Subject: REPOST: letter from Jewel This is for all the new people!
