Yes, definitely! > I do not want her to think they are for her to make songs out of... i want > her to have them, as gifts...... Just tell her they're something you wanted to share with her. She does love poetry and is very gracious about it. I don't think she'd take it as you suggesting lyrics for her--she writes her own lyrics, so it's not as though she needs any help or would immediately think that's what you meant them for. I'm really certain she'd enjoy seeing your work. I just hope that with her schedule she has some time to read them! Whenever I look at her tour schedules I wonder how she can keep it up as long as she does. - --Neile ------------------------------ From: Steve Sak Date: Tue, 23 Jan 1996 20:46:29 -0800 Subject: Re: Thoughts and apologies I have been basically a lurker on this list but i feel a need to say a few things after all these posts on conflict, life, the universe, and everything. First off, i would liek to reply to neal's post: >AN APOLOGY > No need! > >WHO THE HELL ARE YOU ANYWAY? > You're lucky to have seen her so early on. Just because somneone has a different opinion doesn't make them a bad person. Let me say though that the world is not a perfect place and by extension, neither are newsgroups. People will say things you don't agree with, sometimes vehemently. Flamewars will occur and are a part of mailing lists. While we all would like the world to be perfect it just aint gonna be so. I guess what i'm trying to say is express you opinions nicely but dont get worry if someone else doesn't. Ultimatly, you're only responsible for your own actions. We only feed the frenzy if we get wrapped up in it. That's it. I'll never say another word on this topic. On another note, I'll be at the Jewel/Edwin McCain show in DC on Feb 1. Anyone want to make arrangements to meet up before the show or recognize each other there. It would be nice to attach faces to names. Unless I hear (in private mail) in theaffirmative use-wise, I'll scrap it. The first law of mailing lists, newsgroups, and Web sites is: "Read first; then think; then read some more; then think some more; THEN post." Many many flame wars start by people (not just newbies!) not acclimating themselves to the environment before they start contributing. I read a lot of posts here before venturing a comment. Then I made a mistake that could have been rectified by carefully looking at Colin's excellent Web page before posting. :( Go easy on the newcomers; BUT being a newcomer is no excuse for violating common sense netiquette. Now can we get back to Jewel-related posts? I hope we didn't scare any of our best resources away with this.... This is just a though; but, I think everyone on this list needs to stop and take a deep breath.........ok, feel better? This list is supposed to be a good thing. If someone does something wrong or disagrees with something, they should take it up with that person personally and privately. This group is supposed to be fun and interesting. It's supposed to let fans of Jewel know what going on with her. All is forgiven with everyone, ok? Let's get back to why we are here. thanks for you time-Michael P.S. Just cause someone says something you don't think is true it doesn't mean they deserve that kind of treatment. ESPECIALLY since you didn't KNOW otherwise from jewel mouth directly. >Artists don't blatently copy one another and then go and admit >it.Anyway, GGTW sounds nothing like any of Tori's songs and I own >them all! On this one you don't have to agree with me at all... but it seems you misunderstood how GGTW seemed like a tori song. Maybe it was lyrics or maybe it was the rythm (how do you spell that?) or the background, or the general layout of the song or the concept... whatever it doesn't matter. The point is you don't need to be so blatantly opposed to something you don't know even exactly how it was supposed to be meant. > I am her biggest fan. About that... Well maybe but i guess i'm just one of those who dislikes when people say they are"the biggest fan of someone" like it's a contest or something... Maybe you didn't mean that but still that's how I interpreted it. >And by the way, for all you baby people out there that can't handle >opinions, Jewel and Tori are alike in many ways, and they are different >in many ways. I think what people are trying to say is that if you like >Jewel, here's someone else you might want to check out that is very >talented just like Jewel. If you fools can't appreciate someone filling >you in on music then why the hell are you on this list?! I thought this >was a list about music, Jewel's music. Kerry, on this point we completely agree... The list could learn a lot from you on this issue. It's interesting to SOME people on the list to compare to jewel to other artists. It introduces us to other artists... like the person who is NOW going to try tori since he/she (sorry i forget... apology to the aforementioned him or her) heard so much talk about her on here and heard favorable comparisons to jewel. Mike wrote: >Actually the person who gets to decide if the list has a name or what >that name should be is usally the person who runs the list. :) So what's >your opinion Jeff? Good idea... But maybe WE (THE LIST) should decide as a whole... like vote and stuff... I'd be willing to tally the votes and send them to Jeff... That's all for tonite... Jake p.s. Chill out if you want to leave... if you don't feel that you are getting anything out of this list then maybe you should leave, or stay and try to tell people what you think, about jewel, her music, and all things related to it. - -- ------------------------------ From: David Jarvis Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 00:21:14 -0500 (EST) Subject: Who's A-Goin' To Cincy Hello, hello, I think that Amelia is on the right track about the pre-show get togethers. This is the first time I've ever gotten seriously angry at the way someone has acted on the list, and I responded pretty much in kind. I did try to tone down my comments, but obviously didn't succeed very well. - --Neile ------------------------------ From: Steve Ito Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 00:52:17 -0500 Subject: The Crucible I realize we're not completely out of the fire yet, but I'm hoping that we've gone through a sort of crucible in the last couple of days, and will emerge a stronger list for it. I am heartened by the resurfacing of Neal, and I'm glad Jeff H. is still around. I see good signs too, in the outpouring of support for Hiranya, and the many calls for community on this list. I hope that Neile sticks around, and Kerry too. BTW, I think that the idea of real-life get-togethers is a very good idea. It's kind of fun meeting people you've only ever seen as patterns electrons! Sadly, I've only met one person from this list... although Neile came within a 5 minute walk of me and I didn't even know it until a week later because I was so behind in reading ecto (another great list). On that note, if any Toronto-area list members are interested, sometime in the very near future I will be having some friends over to watch the Melissa Etheridge/Jewel Duets special and some random other videotaped stuff (like Tori Amos on SNL). Someone here even mentioned seeing Jewel at C'est What way back in March... come by and reminisce with us, we were all there! E-mail me soon, folks!
