I am here to announce that I am closing down the NEWS list version of the EDA Jewel list. Being that it is a fully moderated list, I send on a post to this list about twice a year now, if that. All posts sent on are "newsy" posts culled from the regular (loose mail) version of the list, which shall live on. With the regular version of the list trudging along at a crippled snails pace...there have been FIVE posts all year, I figure that version and/or the digest version will suffice. (at its peak during a stretch in 1997, the regular version of the list had over 400 posts per day!) Present members of the news list can join the regular version or the digest version. By closing down the news version, it will cut down the daily spam I have to deal with coming from non-subscribed email addresses and/or spoofed emails from subscribed members. There are upwards of a couple dozen or so of those each day. A week from tonight I will close down this list by unsubscribing everyone on it. If you want to be put on either the regular (loose-mail) version or the digest version, please send me a reply dictating which version you prefer and I will take care of it. Or, those of you with Majordomo saavy can do it yourselves. For those of you that do not know, the digest version is a daily email that includes all of the posts made to the regular list that day. If there were no posts made that day, there will not be a digest that day. For the record, in case you were wondering, there are currently 262 distinct email addresses subscribed to Jewel-news, 223 on the digest and 125 on the regular. At their peaks, News had 1,355 subscribers, digest 1,064 and regular 893. By the way, some of you have been on this list a VERY long time. At the top of the list of longevity I see Heidi (at the top!) Jamie Mathews (at #2) , Steve Ito, Rob C and Bill G and a whole host of others from two decades ago. Sad that this part of an era has to come to an end...but the EDA list SHALL live on, even at a snail's pace :-) Mike
