It's been a couple of years since we really did anything for her birthday. At least anything that she was aware of. It's obviously too late to plan something extravagant like getting another star named for her but, I don't think it's too late to at least put together a simple card from all of us. I've discussed this with a few other EDAs off the list and they liked the idea. So, here's the simple plan. Myself and Lara (one of the many long-time lurking EDAs) will be attending the first show of the new tour in Clearwater, Florida on May 23rd (Jewel's birthday). Lara is a bit of an artist, and she's making an 8 1/2 X 11 birthday card to Jewel from the EDAs. Somehow, I'm sure we can find a way to make sure she gets the card. What we're asking from you is a few short minutes of personal participation. We're trying to keep this simple, and get as many EDAs involved as possible . We have new people on the list, and we also have people that go back to the first day. Many of us have followed and supported her career through all 6 "official" albums with Atlantic, plus untold numbers of InstantLive CDs (hey James, how many InstantLives did you buy for other EDAs?), and I can't even imagine all the Angelfood that's been traded without charge, per Jewel's request. We have "unofficial" Jewel tribute websites like Gerrits, Michaels and others. There was Jewelstock. Her mother Nedra even gave us our collective name, EveryDay Angels. This is the last album she owes Atlantic with the necessary tour which follows it's release. If you look at the schedule, they're doing a show almost every day for about 6 weeks. A tough schedule. After that, no one seems to know. More tour dates, I hope. As far as another album and another tour goes, well, I personally think it might be a while. Maybe quite a while. POY came out 12 years ago, and since then she's been working har! d writing, recording, touring, doing TV and all the behind the scenes work involved in being Jewel. My point is, that if we want to send her a personal message from so many of us who have stuck with her through most, if not all of her career, then the time is now. Will she actually read through a card from her EDAs? Of course she will. If you were her, wouldn't you? Surveys have always been popular so, complete as much or as little of the following survey as you like, and copy and paste it to a new email addressed to me at MAC14460@aol.com You don't necessarily have to even do the survey. Just send an email to me with your birthday message to Jewel. I'll print out all the emails, and Lara and I will assemble them together to create one big card from all of us. Jewel's birthday is a week from this coming Tuesday which should give all of us plenty of time to compose some sort of email. Remember, it doesn't have to be fancy. As simple as "Happy Birthday and good luck on the new tour" would be plenty. Just take 3 minutes and do it. It would be lame to give her a card from her EDAs with just 10 entries. No apathy allowed. Even if you never post to the list, this is your chance to be part of Jewel's birthday card. Let's have a strong resp! onse for her birthday and show Jewel that we're still out here, we're thankful for all the years of really great music, and that we want her to keep making more music. Thanks for your participation. I'll be collecting emails until Monday morning, May 22. On Monday, we will be assembling the card so that we can give it to her on Tuesday. Participation has been pretty good so far but, at least in this instance, more really is better. Let's show our appreciation for all the great music she's taken the time and effort to share with all of us. So take a minute and say 'Happy Birthday' and whatever else you'd like to say to 'our girl.' Thanks again, everyone.
