This temporary template information contained an incorrect album tracklist and release date which then began circulating everywhere on the web. Rest assured that the domestic release date (November 13th) has not changed and our JeweLink members will be the first people to receive the accurate tracklist. We realize that everyone is patiently waiting for this and your patience is appreciated. We can tell you that in addition to the studio recordings co-produced by Jewel and Dann Huff in Nashville, the new album will also contain a few bonus solo acoustic live recordings. These live recordings may differ in various areas of the world and we'll let all you collectors know more as plans finalize. Also, of particular interest to JeweLink members and computer users in general, is that "This Way" will be an enhanced CD containing a video of an alternate studio version of one of the album tracks. More album details in the next few weeks. ******************************************** ***STANDING STILL: INTERNATIONAL SINGLE RELEASES The first radio single, "Standing Still," is now receiving airplay on many radio stations and the new video is beginning to play on MTV and VH1. While there are no current plans to release this single commercially here in the United States, there will be several international single releases that are of interest. On October 22nd, Australia and New Zealand will commercially release "Standing Still" as a single, followed by a Japan release two days later, on October 24th. These singles will also contain two bonus tracks; "A Long Slow Slide" and "Stephenville, Texas," both recorded live. We'll have more information for you soon, but Jewel will also be visiting Australia, New Zealand and Japan in coming weeks to promote the new single. Visit the www.jeweljk.com calendar for additional info as it becomes known. In the meantime, we welcome you calling your favorite radio stations to request Jewel's new single. ******************************************** ***JEWEL: A LIFE UNCOMMON DVD RELEASE DETAILS As we mentioned previously, the video documentary covering the first seven years of Jewel's career, "Jewel: A Life Uncommon," has been remastered for release on DVD and re-release on VHS. This intimate video portrait traces Jewel's early start in the coffee houses of San Diego up through the Spirit World Tour of 1999 and contains live performances, behind-the-scenes footage, as well as interviews with family, friends and those closest to Jewel. Several notable improvements have been made to this new addition. In the original edition, during the 1999 concert footage, we were originally going for a feel of "being in the audience" and we utilized audio recordings of the room itself to achieve this goal. While this worked quite well, for the new addition, MrBB has taken the original room recordings and blended them with the soundboard direct masters, achieving the original feel of being there, with new clarity and depth to Jewel's vocals and the instrumentation. This new audio was utilized on all the 1999 concert footage. Also, three new tracks have been added to the new addition. What's Simple is True, Down So Long and Who Will Save Your Soul, all recorded live with the Spirit Tour Band at an HGH benefit in Los Angeles on April 25, 1999, have been added as bonus tracks. The release date is scheduled to coincide with the release of Jewel's next album on November 13th, 2001 and JMerch will have it available. ******************************************** ***JEWEL WEBSITE NEWS A few items of interest at www.jeweljk.com this week: This week, we've included some particularly nice outtake shots from memorable Jewel photo shoots on our photo page. Second, a heads up on this: AOL's Artist Of The Month feature went up this morning and it is full of mistakes. Dates for the next online chat are wrong and even the prize mentioned in the contest is wrong! (They mention The Today Show next summer as a prize, something apparently fabricated out of thin air, when it'll actually be a trip for two to NYC to see Jewel this December at one of the annual radio station Christmas concerts and other cool things.) Theres some fun stuff there now but they are in the process of correcting many mistakes, so I'd suggest checking it out on Monday or Tuesday when everything is corrected. If you do choose to check it out now, be aware much of it will change to correct info soon. I'll mention more about it in JeweLink on Monday since theres nothing time-sensitive. And for all the Australian EDAs, Jewel is flying in next week to begin promo over there and I'll let you know as much as possible on Monday. When engaged in international promo touring, often Jewel and the rest of us have no idea what exactly is planned for specific days. She's simply instructed to be in a particular city and then she's escorted to the various tapings by local reps and record company people. There's a lot of TV and radio planned, but much like it was here, only some of it will be broadcast live. The majority of it will be taped for broadcast the week the single is released. I do know the names of quite a few radio and TV programs she'll be doing, so I can help you know what to look for, but it'll really be up to you to take that info, do some research yourself and then let other EDAs know the specific information about stations and broadcast times. If you're in Australia, watch for this info in Monday's JeweLink. Cheers! Although there are many events planned, much like it was here in the States, only some of it will be broadcast live. The majority of it will be taped for broadcast in following weeks, coinciding with the commercial release of Jewel's "Standing Still" single (to be released in Australia on October 22nd). However, we do know several of the programs that will be broadcast this week and here is that information: Thursday, October 11: RADIO: 3AW Ernie Snigley Show (interview at noon) Thursday, October 11: RADIO: MIX FM (interview and song at 5:00 PM) Friday, October 12: TV: Good Morning Australia (interview and live performance taping. This will NOT air this day, but will likely air over the weekend or Monday morning.) In addition to these programs, Jewel will be taping many radio and TV shows during the course of this week to be broadcast in the near future. It is recommended that you check the www.jeweljk.com calendar often, as it will be updated with more broadcast information as it becomes known. Although we are unable to give you more specifics, here is a partial list of additional Australian radio and TV appearances to look forward to: Other Radio: RADIO 774 FM FOX FM Tracey & Matt Show FOX FM "Hour Of Power" w/Barry Bissell FOX FM Rove McManus Show ACE RADIO FM K-ROCK FM Other TV: PREMIER (cable TV show) BIG SMOOZE (cable TV show) And finally, you'll soon find Jewel interviews and articles in many Australian publications, including near-future features in The Herald Sun, Examiner, BEAT, INPRESS, Sunday Age and ECTERA. Following Jewel's visit to Australia this week, will be visits to New Zealand and Japan, as well as a possible return visit to Australia later this month. We'll update you on the New Zealand and Japan visits in about a week. In the meantime, check Jewel's web site calendar often for the most current information. Many are writing us asking if this will be rescheduled. As of now, considering Jewel's busy international schedule, there are no plans to reschedule this. If anything changes, we'll certainly let you know and include information on Jewel's website calendar. Also, although it has been available in a few places already, this Wednesday is the official release date of Lenedra Carroll's book, "The Architecture Of All Abundance." We'll be sending you some exciting information about Lenedra's activities in another JeweLink message tomorrow. WHOLE LIFE EXPOSITION ***NOTES FROM MrBB/ANSWER FROM JEWEL ******************************************** It's the moment you've all been waiting so patiently for. The official domestic (North America) tracklist for Jewel's new album "This Way," is as follows in the correct running order: 1. Standing Still 2. Jesus Loves You 3. Everybody Needs Someone Sometime 4. Break Me 5. Do You Want To Play 6. Till We Run Out Of Road 7. Serve The Ego 8. This Way 9. Cleveland 10. I Won't Walk Away 11. Love Me Just Leave Me Alone 12. The New Wild West In addition to the above studio recordings, all of which were co-produced by Jewel and Dann Huff in Nashville, the new album will also contain a few bonus solo acoustic live recordings. These live recordings will differ in various areas of the world but on the North American version they will be: 13. Grey Matter 14. Sometimes It Be That Way In The United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the album will be released on Tuesday, November 13th. It will be released a bit earlier in Japan on October 31st. For collectors, some of the non-domestic versions, including the Japan release, will feature a different live version of "Sometimes It Be That Way" and the additional live track "A Long Slow Slide." Jewel's new album will also be released in a limited edition double album vinyl set for all you turntable audiophiles and for those who miss the days of 12" record albums. The vinyl edition contains the same tracks as the domestic CD spread over four LP sides. Most of Latin America, Europe and South East Asia will see a release date scheduled during the first quarter of 2002. Also, of particular interest to JeweLink members and computer users in general, is that "This Way" will be an enhanced CD containing a video of an alternate studio version of one of the album tracks. We'll let that be an enjoyable surprise. ******************************************** To JeweLink members in the Los Angeles area, Lenedra J. We hope the increased frequency of JeweLink editions isn't overwhelming anyone. I'm sure many of you recall sending in questions for Jewel not too long ago. Most of your questions were helpful for various projects we're working on, but Jewel thought it would be fun to answer a few directly over the next few JeweLinks. So that's what we'll do. Today's question was submitted by Leslie Wagner. Leslie asks: First of all, thank you for the opportunity to ask you a question. I caught your performance at Humphrey's in San Diego and was blown away by the 'new sound' from you and your band. It was funky and fabulous. How will your new album be comprised? Primarily made up of songs with this 'new sound'...mixed with songs of your previous 'sound'? What about any acoustic songs? Jewel answers: I'm glad the show at Humphrey's came off well, even though it was my band's first nights. This record is eclectic, raw and diverse. It has more teeth than my "Spirit" album, but more band than "Pieces of You." There's funny stuff, rock and even slightly country-sounding stuff, so I'm told. And yes, there are two bonus tracks that are live acoustic versions of Grey Matter and Sometimes It Be that Way. For awhile, we'll continue to include Jewel's answers to your questions in each edition of JeweLink. Carroll is an accomplished businesswoman, singer, artist and author. She is also the manager and mother of recording artist Jewel. She is a compelling speaker, teacher, and performer. Her unique story, engaging wisdom and consummate philosophy of life leave audiences deeply satisfied, renewed and with a clearer vision for their own lives. Over the past several years, Lenedra and Jewel have created a unique partnership to promote positive influence and change from a worldwide platform. Their partnership encompasses several for profit businesses, as well as their humanitarian foundation, Higher Ground for Humanity (HGH). HGH promotes global community and individual action to inspire positive change. Jewel: So - your first book! Congratulations! How did you find the process of writing it? Lenedra: I found writing to be both incredibly easy and incredibly difficult. Long sections seemed to write themselves - which was exhilarating. Then there were the chapters that required many rewrites - that was a lot of work. The workplace section was the most difficult, primarily because there was so much business development taking place while I was working on that section that I had less time to write and it was harder for me to sort out which things would be of interest to readers. There were also projects under development that were not quite ready to be written about, so that added to the challenge of what to cover. Jewel: In a world that places tremendous importance on formal education, most people find it nearly unbelievable that a housewife and artist from Alaska would go on to build such complex business structures with no other business education other than a few community college classes. How did you learn to tap into your native genius for business? What would your advice be to others who feel limited by a lack of formalized education? Lenedra: In many ways it is my lack of education that is my greatest asset because I find it easy to think out of the box, having no preconceptions or pre-training. I tap into the source by using meditation, prayer and silence to access a universally available wisdom and I have developed a wonderful team of experienced advisors. My advice to others who feel limited by lack of formalized education would be to pick up courses on the things that are yours to learn, learn to access an inner wisdom and always have great people around you who are better than you. Using this approach, I don't think that one is limited in any way. It turns an apparent limitation into an asset. Jewel: Over the years as I have witnessed how most artists' careers have been mishandled and, more importantly, how most managers have no idea how to help maintain and nurture creativity in an artist, it has made me value your skills as truly one of a kind. Do you feel that being an artist yourself has given you the insight on how to help me? Lenedra: Absolutely. As an artist I know what it takes to create. I know the growth necessary to sustain longevity and creativity. This is one of the most important areas of development for an artist's career and one that is usually overlooked. Jewel: Having been close to you while building our businesses, I have been privy to those times where you saw the need for expansion and had to find the courage to meet your vision. What has challenged you the most in building our businesses? Lenedra: The most challenging times are those when the expansion of the business outstrips my personal abilities. At those times I feel extremely vulnerable until I can integrate my knowledge that the wisdom to guide the company through the growth phase is available to me in the silence, and to remember that I can hire brilliant, knowledgeable people to provide the needed expertise. Jewel: In my book, when I was writing about my father I had to stop, reflect and assess the relationship. It was an emotional topic for me - were there any things like that for you in this book? Lenedra: It was very cathartic for me to write about the times when I had heart problems, business difficulties, and the period when I was working to clear emotional baggage. These were emotionally difficult times, but it was also freeing to remember and realize the success I've had in moving through them. I feel proud of myself for the growth and changes I have made. Jewel: My favorite story in the book is the one called "The Rabbit and The Chicken" because I can remember you telling me that story when I was young. Why did you feel it was important to tell me this story? What was it you wanted me to understand? Lenedra: I remember the fascination that I had with that story when I was a child and knew you would also feel the wonder of it and be intrigued by the questions that it raised. I also told it to you because I wanted you to understand that one of the most powerful ways that we learn is through the stories and teachings of other people. Jewel: When I am interviewed, often I am asked what it is like to have my mother be my manager. Let me turn the table on you and ask what it is like for you to manage me? Lenedra: Basically, what we have is a family owned business. So it is less about the issues of the separation of mother and manager, than it is about what it's like to run a family owned business. I find myself well suited to this type of work. I enjoy working with you, Jewel, and Shane, as well as Atz Lee when he works with us. There is a mutual language and a long established respect that I find brings greater ease to the type of relating that business requires. Jewel: You mention in your book an approach you developed as a child to help you avoid interpreting or misinterpreting the behavior of others. I remember you teaching me to play the game called "12 What Else." Can you give us an example of how it works? Have you ever used it in a business setting? Lenedra: "12 What Else" is an exercise that helps us understand what else is going on with other people besides what our initial impression might be and it opens up more options for how we relate to others. Recently I was on a conference call where everyone had different ideas and a number of people were upset. Everybody's agenda seemed to head in different directions. I interjected that we could easily see where we differed and where it was difficult to come together. I requested that we take some time for everyone on the conference call to speak to how we were similar in what we were trying to accomplish and to place our focus there. After everyone did that, I said, "Now lets think of as many things as we can that will facilitate us to reach those goals." And that's the way I use "12 What Else" in the business setting. I think it is a very important exercise to develop vital skills in business and personal relationships, including family relationships. Jewel: Your ideas about time are intriguing. Most of us feel pressured by how many things we have to do each day. How do we find more time in our busy lives? Lenedra: It's in the small moments. It's stopping and taking a breath before you make the next phone call. It's being conscious of where you are - that you are in a body, in a room, in a building, in a city, on a planet and that outside is whatever it may be. Then move into your next call. That helps to stay in the present moment and in the present moment there is no time. When we can stay present in each moment, time expands tremendously, creating space by making more silence, more pauses. These break our addiction to the time and space frame. That4s it. Neat, huh? I'll provide a lot of information in tomorrow's JeweLink, but I will not be answering any email questions for at least a week, so please consult Jewel's calendar for anything you may need to know. Jewel is returning to Australia next week and theres a lot more TV, radio and media planned. All that info, including broadcast times for a few major Australian TV programs on Monday and Tuesday, will be added to the calendar by tomorrow night. One thing that will not be addressed in the next JeweLink, that many of you have written me about this week, is the issue of a domestic release of the "Standing Still" single. There are no current plans to release this domesticly and that has not changed, regardless of what you may have heard. I did hear about a plan to test market a "pay-to-download-the-single" by some online vendors, but an actual commercial release is not planned here in the states. There are many things planned here in the states for November and December and unconfirmed events are beginning to leak out around the Internet, some possible, some not. Jewel will be visiting many nationally broadcast programs such as The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Rosie O'Donnell and others, but scheduling is still being finalized. Over the next week or so, if any questions arise, we advise you to check Jewel's web site calendar for all confirmed information. If its not there, then it is not confirmed. In the event something timely comes up, it will be posted on the calendar. A big thanks to those of you who signed up for our JeweLink street team. We hope you're enjoying this project so far and we welcome more of you to join in. Simply click the "This Way" banner at www.jeweljk.com for more information or to join. I leave you today with another of your questions for Jewel. Today's question was submitted by JeweLink member Matt Sullivan. Matt asks: What is the meaning for the album title, "This Way?" Jewel answers: Like a road sign, saying "take this road," and it will be a road through my head, so you can see the world like I do for one hour. It is a great pleasure to welcome Jewel to LARRY KING LIVE. She is the singer-songwriter and author. A new album coming next month called "This Way." But the song she is going to sing tonight is "Hands." That is from your last album, right? JEWEL, SINGER: Correct. KING: How did this all come about? JEWEL: A radio station in New York actually did a version where they put President Bush speaking over it and people calling in when they had seen the towers fall, and it just sort of became an anthem, I guess in New York. KING: Where were you on September 11? JEWEL: Camping. I didn't know it happened until 12th. KING: No kidding? JEWEL: Yes. KING: Where did you learn it? JEWEL: I learned it driving out, we saw a ranch with its flag at half-staff, and we started driving through these mountain country cities and saw all the flags out. KING: Thanks for coming, Jewel. JEWEL: Thank you. KING: We would like to dedicate this song to Jenny Ann Mefeo (ph). She was burned over 90 percent of her body in the attack on the World Trade Center. She clung to life for 41 days at New York's Weill Cornell Burn Unit. That is the medical facility this program took you into last month. Yesterday Jenny Ann Mefeo lost her courageous battle for survival. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and her friends. Here is Jewel. And now on to another one of your questions for Jewel. Today's question was submitted by JeweLink member Christina Suripatty. Christina asks: Which song on the new album are you most proud of and why? Jewel answers: I'm really proud of all of them for specific reasons. They are all so different. I love the drums on Everybody Needs Someone Sometime, but my favorite lyrics are Jesus Loves You and The New Wild West. Although not planned for domestic release as a single, "Standing Still" was produced for use in non-CD playing jukeboxes as a 45 rpm vinyl single with a live version of "Grey Matter" as the b-side. This rare 45 is not available anywhere else and all JMerch copies have been personally autographed by Jewel on the label a-side. Supply of these 45's is very limited and like all autographed items from JMerch, come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Visit Jewel's website store to view or purchase this item, while they last. To join in on this event, AOL members can go to Keyword: Live at 9:00 PM EST, 6:00 PM Pacific. ******************************************** ***NOTES FROM MrBB/ANSWER FROM JEWEL Hi all, Jewel is gearing up for the big release day by planning her promotional schedule here in the states and rehearsing her new band. Keep an eye on the www.jeweljk.com calendar, as it is now often updated multiple times a day. It's the best way to keep up on Jewel's TV, radio and concert scheduling information. Now onto another one of your questions for Jewel. Today's question was submitted by JeweLink member Robert Hedman. Robert asks: In your book, "Chasing Down the Dawn," there is a picture of you and drummer Kenny Buttrey and you are holding a Taylor guitar, appears to be a 310. Can you tell me if this was your first guitar, and if not, do you remember or still have your first one? Do you recall the make and model? Jewel answers: The Taylor in the picture belongs to Steve Poltz if I remember right. My first guitar was a gut-string Giannini with Brazilian rosewood. I loved that guitar. Thats it for today. Happy Halloween!
