The singer/songwriter has penned several tracks with "Smooth" co-writer Itaal Shur and recently began recording the follow-up to her 1999 Christmas standards album, Joy: A Holiday Celebration, with producers John Kurzweg (Creed) and Dann Huff (Faith Hill). Kurzweg said he's recorded only one track, called "Jesus Loves You." His plans to produce Creed's next album (see "Creed Taking Things Higher On Third Album") may prevent him from working on other songs with her, he said. But Kurzweg said last week that based on the 17 demos Jewel played for him, Ms. Kilcher's new music may stun those who know her from "Who Will Save Your Soul," off 1995's Pieces of You, or "Hands," off 1998's Spirit. "It was really cool stuff," Kurzweg said. "Some of the stuff is very similar [to Jewel's past work], and then some of it is kind of edgier and a little more loop-based. What attracted me to the songs we were interested in working on together - it was more dangerous-sounding than I expected it to be, or edgier." Kurzweg brought in A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese for "Jesus Loves You" to re-create the percussion-heavy sound he heard in the song's demo. Shur, meanwhile, said he's co-written several tracks with Jewel, including "Serve the Ego" and "Shadows Play," both of which she's already played live. "Serve the Ego" boasts Indian-flavored backing, a minor-key melody and the cynical refrain "Get on your hands and knees/ And praise the new deity/ Serve the ego" - a long way from critically derided Spirit tracks like "What's Simple Is True." "Shadows Play," meanwhile, has a Brazilian feel; Shur described it as a "bossa nova chill-out song." Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins said in June that he'd recorded one song with Jewel. The track, which he didn't name, is not a major departure for her, he said. According to an e-mail sent to fans by her management, Jewel has also recorded her blues-rock live staple "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone," which in concert has blatantly evoked Bob Dylan circa Highway 61 Revisited. Jewel's label and management could not be reached for comment on her new album's progress, and no release date has been set. In the e-mail to fans, Jewel's management cautioned that she is writing and recording many songs for the album and that it is not yet clear which tracks she will decide to include. Jewel has several isolated live dates lined up this summer, including a July 19 appearance in New York's Central Park (see "Jewel, Willa Ford To Perform With Contest Finalists"). --------------- Chris. http://www.jewelfan.co.uk : Jewel - Pieces Of UK From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Thu Jul 5 19:41:40 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id TAA04966 for jewel-news-outgoing; Thu, 5 Jul 2001 19:41:24 -0400 (EDT) Received: from pronetisp.net (mail.pronetisp.net [12.23.44.4]) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/daemon-mode-jane) with SMTP id TAA04955 for ; Thu, 5 Jul 2001 19:41:18 -0400 (EDT) Received: (qmail 25993 invoked from network); 5 Jul 2001 23:42:43 -0000 Received: from dialin-bing12-156.pronetisp.net (HELO oemcomputer.smoe.org) (12.96.182.156) by mail.pronetisp.net with SMTP; 5 Jul 2001 23:42:43 -0000 Message-Id: <5.1.0.14.2.20010705194336.00a1e020@pop.pronetisp.net> X-Sender: mikec@mail.smoe.org X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.1 Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2001 19:45:42 -0400 To: jewel@smoe.org, jewel-news@smoe.org From: Mike Connell Subject: Jewel-News: FWD: JeweLink: July 5, 2001 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Here is the latest issue of JeweLink, directly from Jewel's "people", if you want to get a copy of this directly as each issue comes out, you can sub- scribe to it by sending a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com ******************************************** JeweLink - The Official Jewel Communications List ******************************************** ***JEWEL ON TV: UPDATES ***CONCERT HOTLINE: STEVE POLTZ AT JAVA JOE'S ***NOTE FROM MrBB ****************************************** JEWEL ON TV: UPDATES To coincide with the current Stevie Nicks/Sheryl Crow tour, the Sheryl Crow episode of VH1-Storytellers (with guest Stevie Nicks) has now replaced Jewel's episode at 9:00 PM EST tomorrow night. Just to make those of you not attending jealous ;-) and maybe add a little encouragement to those of you who may be on the fence about going, here's a copy of the latest update I sent out to the attendees yesterday: `````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Howdy Folks - Less than two weeks now until Bearsville - I hope everyone is as excited as I am :-) As you all know, we plan to head up on Wednesday ourselves. B I believe the majority of you plan to arrive friday afternoon/evening, but would like to call the campgrounds tomorrow or Tuesday and just confirm our reservations and give them a better idea of the numbers and arrivals. B Please just take a second and let me know ASAP when you'll be arriving. B Thanks :-) For those of you already thinking what to pack, the weather forecast for the next week seems to be running from the lower 70's to 80 for the highs and pretty much 50's for the lows at night - sounds good, let's hope the weather stays good :-) (I'll update you all on the forecast as we get closer) As I'm sure the 'usual suspects' know, it seems to have rained at least once every year, but maybe we'll get lucky this year :-) B I also plan to ask when I call the campgrounds how the water levels look as I'm sure there'll be at least one tubing excursion over the weekend :-) B So remember an old pair of tennis shoes as they are required (though they also have creek shoes for rent for $2, might be worth avoiding lugging another item.... B If you'd like to get more info or check prices etc... B you can check out their web site at towntinker.com :-) B (Their is a link for a 10% discount on rental equipment). We also plan to go horseback riding again. B The cost last year was $25, and I assume the price is probably still the same or close to it. B I'm thinking that we will do this fairly early on Saturday morning as we did last year so that we avoided any waiting (if you'll remember they had people waiting when we got back). B I'll let them know on Friday that we'll be coming in case they need to bring over more horses (seems like they did last year...) B Please let me know if you plan to join us so I can get an estimated head count ahead of time (just so I know before we leave for Bearsville). B You will also probably want to be sure you have long pants (jeans?) and maybe boots for this activity. Let me know if I've missed anything :-) Tammy :-) Also, since Mike will be unable to update the page for at least the next few days, here is an updated list of attendees - Let me know ASAP if any changes need to be made :-) Tammy Campbell Rob Campbell Ahmetia Campbell Katerina Campbell Tom Proven Tiffany Clark Tom Miles Vicki Miles Tom ObBrien Rachel ObBrien Amy Neufeld Gerrit Kruidhof Beth Johnson Chris Schernwetter (Sherm) Richard Chang (Akira) Bill Bartholomew Laura Marion Jon Dennis Harris Albert Wang Chris Moynihan Kelly Gallagher Mike Berkowitz Erica Cavallo Steve Foxx Abel Rosario Mark Nissley (Crunch) David Beery Kim Zercher Travis Markel Becca Smith John Hickey Katie Daniel Eliot Lemoncelli Paul Schreiber Jade Jessica Cormier Sarah Fuller See ya in less than two weeks!!!! Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2001 22:29:08 -0700 Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Here It is folks, the latest news regarding the Music Festival at Humphrey's, Sunday August 19th and Monday, August 20th. Start Times: Sunday August 19th 12:00 Noon Until... Monday August 20th Immediately Following Jewels Concert, until 2:00 A.M. You may remember that we needed another venue ( in addition to Humphrey's Backstage ) to accommodate everyone who was under 21. So, I asked the boat club across the street from Humphrey's if we could use their ultra-sweet venue for our Gathering/ Music Festival. They told me I would have to be a member to use the club. Then the Commodore, Jean, called me and invited me to go through their membership ritual. The ritual being that I attend 2 of their monthly meetings, and there would be a third meeting at which I would be absent. This is where they vote for you. (They vote on Everything) I have attended both required meetings now, Things have gone quite nicely and now I have been invited to attend the third meeting as well. It is a big food and wine bash and I will be the live entertainment! So, unless I really screw up this show, the boat club is looking really good. The third meeting is Aug. 7, so I will know for sure then if we can use this venue. That's cutting it pretty close to Show Date, but I like a little excitement with my coffee. As additional insurance, I was able to get the reservations for the Park and Pavilion across the street from Humphrey's. (Although I still have to send in the app. and permit fee) It's kind of cool because the pavilion directly faces the Artists tour buses. Being a local show though, Jewel will more likely arrive indiscreetly in a Chevy Blazer. You could even come by boat to Humphrey's! However, if we are using the Boat Club, we really don't need the Pavilion except for people to hang out in and play acoustics. Plus, the Park people are kind of adamant about keeping it under 100 guests unless I pay them $2.50 per person and a security deposit. They will trip when 1200 Jewel fans show up! I already have reservations for over 100. We can fit 200 inside of Humphrey's, and 150 or so at the Boat Club. Either way, we will have 2 stages going simultaneously on Sunday, and One stage (inside) at Mondays AfterParty withthe fabulous Gregory Page. Music will be From 12:00 to 6:00 or so on Sunday Aug 19th, I still need to get with the Jewel concert producer regarding details about their scheduling, so that everything is rapped up for their opening acts. This gives us about 10 to 12 hours to fill with entertainment. We have quite an interesting line-up going already and we are still considering acts. OnlineConcerts@home.com for more info. If you are a performer scheduled to play at the festival you will soon receive an e-mail regarding scheduling. All this time, we haven't really had a name for this Gathering/Festival. So, I thought long and hard about it, and I have decided on a name, and a theme. I submit them here for your consideration. I've been studying quite a bit the last few years on environmental issues, particularly pertaining to Power and Energy. As many of you may know, there is a strong effort to re-designate over 1 million acres of the Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and allow oil companies to to drill and excavate oil and other resources in this pristine wilderness. Strong lobbying by financially motivated businesses and government officials, mean that we the people, must stand up and take responsible control of our earths resources. We MUST stop further devastation of the earths resources, and just as importantly, we must strive to implement sustainable clean energy sources. Electric Cars, Solar and Wind energy are important steps in the right direction. Therefore, I have decided to name the upcoming Jewel fans music festival, "The Alaska Festival" The Alaska Festival will serve to bring light upon the issues concerning Alaska's National Wildlife Refuge and the complicated issues concerning Alaska's citizens. It will also serve to educate us about the new and wonderful energy sources available and how they can be used today to begin what will become a new way of life for mankind. A life free of the bonds of energy dependence. We have quite a line up of performers taking shape. Music from lots of different Genres will keep it interesting all day. Performers will Include; The WaterGypsies Jennifer McBride and Sweet Duration Gregory Page Miss Kitty (New Orleans Funk and Jazz) Mike Carmona Tiamo De Vettori Alex Esther Erin Waters ( http://ErinWaters.com ) Christie Leigh ( http://Christie-Leigh.com ) Jennifer McNally and the McNallys Band http://www.themcnallys.net/ Billy Raphael Band (Awesome 50'slike Original ROck) Urban Roots (Herb & Roots) Joey Bowen Band PLUS more TBA! It was nice to hear it again. Although I'm a huge fan of the older version of Deep Water, I have to say...this version was great live! She was very spirited while singing it...I enjoyed it. I thought it was really cute when they all started dancing a little during the bridge...=) And the end was beautiful...what more can I say. Fat Boy was Fat Boy. You Were Meant For Me was You Were Meant For Me...ya know..."I was happy, I was sad" Ugh, though. I mean she sang that WHOLE song in her cutesy voice, and although I like the cutesy voice...ugh. Steve Rocked though =) What's Simple is True sounded really great live with the band. (I LOVE YOU, CILLA!!!!!) Then Jupiter. AAAAAAAAH!!! SHE SANG JUPITER! First off, I wasn't too impressed...and it really annoyed me when she said crihizy. What the heck does crihizy mean? You meake me so crihizy baby...whatever. But the end, MY GOD...I thought it was amazing. She did it SO great. Great. =) Amazing. =) Kiss the Flame was really pretty, and Cold SOng and Who Will Save Your SOul were okay. Okay...that's my review...I was highly pleased =) From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Tue Jul 17 20:16:05 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id UAA02250 for jewel-news-outgoing; Tue, 17 Jul 2001 20:15:55 -0400 (EDT) Received: from pronetisp.net (mail.pronetisp.net [12.23.44.4]) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/daemon-mode-jane) with SMTP id UAA02239 for ; Tue, 17 Jul 2001 20:15:46 -0400 (EDT) Received: (qmail 28457 invoked from network); 18 Jul 2001 00:17:24 -0000 Received: from dialin-bing11-085.pronetisp.net (HELO oemcomputer.smoe.org) (12.96.182.85) by mail.pronetisp.net with SMTP; 18 Jul 2001 00:17:24 -0000 Message-Id: <5.1.0.14.2.20010717201548.00a26170@pop.pronetisp.net> X-Sender: mikec@mail.smoe.org X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.1 Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 20:17:44 -0400 To: jewel@smoe.org, jewel-news@smoe.org From: Mike Connell Subject: Jewel-News: FWD: JeweLink: July 17, 2001 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Here is the latest issue of JeweLink, directly from Jewel's "people", if you want to get a copy of this directly as each issue comes out, you can sub- scribe to it by sending a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com ******************************************** JeweLink - The Official Jewel Communications List ******************************************** In this edition of JeweLink: ***CENTRAL PARK GIVEAWAYS/JMERCH NEWS ***JEWEL ON TV: UPDATES ******************************************** ***CENTRAL PARK GIVEAWAYS For those of you attending Jewel's performance at the Pantene Pro-Voice Concert in Central Park on Thursday evening, you may enjoy stopping by the Pantene booth. Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi all, Jewel would like to invite 100 of you (plus one guest each) to attend a private free concert/live recording session in Nashville on Monday, July 30th. To be one of those 100 people you must first determine two things now and then proceed with the instructions. They are simple yes/no answers: 1.) Can I realistically be in Nashville on Monday, July 30th? 2.) Can I receive instructions via email toward the end of next week? If you can answer yes to both questions, and you'd like to attend, please carefully follow the instructions below for your chance to be invited. We have a very short time to compile the guest list for this show and cannot answer individual questions at this time. Simply follow the instructions. If we don't have enough EDAs by Monday morning, I'll post this to JeweLink, but we're hoping it can be filled with EDAs. When the guest list is full, those 100 fans who are invited will be contacted directly via email to confirm that they and a guest will be attending and will then be given the location in Nashville and time to be there. This will happen toward the end of the week. Once you have followed the instructions, please do not write me to check status. All 100 people will be contacted directly. Just be patient and check your email. I'd only add that we respectfully request that you do not post this information anywhere else. Doing so will only reduce the chances of fellow EDAs. We are not initially posting this to JeweLink or anywhere else because we want EDAs to have this opportunity. OK. Here we go. In an email addressed to JewelConcert@aol.com, send the following information on five consecutive lines as below. (DO NOT hit reply to this email or it will go to the wrong address!) Your first and last name Age The address on your ID or drivers license Best email address to reach you Guest name (you can change this later if needed) That's it. We will not share this information with anyone other than the people who will be compiling the guest list and those checking IDs at the door. Good luck to everyone. To: Jewel@smoe.org Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi yall (Hehe.), My name's Erica. I've been on the list for almost 5 years (I JUST missed Jewelstock) as, some of you might remember, "The Great Puddini". I've been a regular attendee at most of the Northeast gatherings (I've been to all 4 Bearsville gatherings), I used to be a regular poster, and I've been roped and used as a yo-yo by Dennis Harris. I've been attending school in Nashville for the last 3 years and I'm very excited about Jewel's show next Monday. I hope to see many of you there. Now I'd like to share with you two important things: Lodging and a pre-show gathering. Lodging: I attend Belmont University and my school has a webpage devoted to some information about hotels around the local area. This page can be found here: http://www.belmont.edu/visitors/hotels.cfm I'd also like to mention that my university has some rooms available for rent for the very inexpensive price of $28.31. However, there is VERY limited space. We have 9 Guest Rooms + Alumni Suite. In fact, I work there, but I've been in CT visiting my friends and family (and attending Bearsville 2001), so I don't exactly know the status of the rooms. You can call or email the Gabhart Student Center (Say "Hi" to Jacyln, Kevin, and Francis for me!). Here's the info on that: Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 11PM Saturday 10 AM - 11PM Sunday 2 PM - 10PM Phone: 615/460-6786 Fax: 615/460-5538 E-mail: johnsonf@mail.belmont.edu I've also been websurfing for information on hotels (which I don't know why because *I* live here) and have found these great links: http://nashville.hotel-directory.com http://www.all-nashville-hotels.com/ And if you are planning on staying in town for a couple days, here's a link that tells what's going on around town: www.nashville.citysearch.com (Might I add that August 1st, Joan Osborne is playing in town for FREE. I'll be there too.) Pre-show gathering: I've been thinking about a possible pre-show gathering that can possibly take place in the afternoon before the concert. I encourage EDAs who don't get invited to the private concert to attend this gathering also. I certainly will if that unfortunate occurrence should happen. Unfortunately, I only live in a VERY tiny campus apartment so having 100 EDAs and their guests is not happening (Not even our beloved EDA Mommy, Tammy could pull that off). I could use some input from some fellow Nashville EDAs on this, but I was thinking of a possible picnic at Centennial Park. It's on West End, conveniently near downtown (where most of the hotels are and possibly where the concert will take place [I'm hoping for a Ryman Auditorium]. I could really use some suggestions and definitely a couple local people to help me pull this off, if they could please. I'll even give you a box of pudding for your trouble (Hey, I'm a college student!). Please email me at VCavallo@aol.com, if you are interested or if you have any questions about the Nashville area (I know it quite well). Once again, those lucky enough to get here and/or attend, I can't wait to meet you. Erica :) From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Wed Jul 25 19:37:19 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id TAA10426 for jewel-news-outgoing; Wed, 25 Jul 2001 19:37:05 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200107252337.TAA10426@smoe.org> From: EDAGatheringTN@aol.com Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 19:29:51 EDT Subject: Jewel-News: Nashville Gathering To: Jewel@smoe.org Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hello Everyone! But well worth the effort, I'm sure! I'm going to bed now, but here's the three answers to the three burning questions: 1. Steve Poltz is the opener for Jewel at Riley Rink next month. Whoever printed up Wallflowers' concert tickets that same night elsewhere, that had Steve as the support act, made a mistake. (This info is on Jewel's website calendar, by the way.) 2. The oh so devious process that was bothering voices of doom: Every EDA who followed the reply instructions to the private concert announcement by the original deadline was invited. After that, replies were put on a secondary list and first come first served. For every cancellation, a new invitation goes out from the secondary list. That simple. 3. As far as photo ops go after the private concert, lets just see how it goes. Things like that happen when its comfortable. Sleepy byebye... Be careful what you post to the main EDA/Jewel@smoe list in regards to the venue or places nearby. The J-team and people in charge of this event wish to keep this as secret as possible for a variety of good reasons. A post that mentions any landmarks, hotels, motels, theatres etc as being close to the venue where Jewel is playing will give away clues as to what place the venue may be. It's all in the best interest of everyone involved, attendees included, that this "private concert" remain just that, private. It makes for a much more relaxing event for all involved. On a similar note, once I even had to hold back a "play a joke on you all" post in regard to Jewel's appearance on MTV Cribs with the fear it might reveal exactly where her house is. (i.e. No reason to post it or obvious clues on a 2,000 subscriber mailing list). More on that later, it would have been a great joke post (I think). Jewel's six-song set was part of a promotional appearance on behalf of Pantene, sponsor of the Pro-Voice talent search, in which 1,200 females ages 14 to 24 submitted original songs. Although she had huge hits in 1996 and '98, Jewel has been relatively quiet since then, focusing mainly on spoken-word recordings. Jewel "I haven't been onstage for a long time," Jewel said. "I kind of quit for a while and went back to the ranch." Playing acoustic guitar, Jewel sang her hits "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me" and "Hands." She also performed a new song (about a troubled relationship) that, she said, will be on an album released in November. Jewel's voice was in fine form, running from a smoky croak on low notes to a sharp, bell-like tone in the upper register. Her brief set was filled with kooky humor, but none of the sappy poetry she is known for. She finished with an electrifying folk song on which she yodeled a cappella. Opening act Willa Ford performed her current hit "I Wanna Be Bad" and one other number. Accompanied by four dancers, Ford was a perfect study in the blandness of the teen-pop genre. The most thrilling element of her song the vocoder effect on the chorus was merely part of her taped musical accompaniment From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Thu Jul 26 20:25:27 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id UAA24488 for jewel-news-outgoing; Thu, 26 Jul 2001 20:24:27 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200107270024.UAA24488@smoe.org> From: VCavallo@aol.com Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 18:53:37 EDT Subject: Jewel-News: *IMPORTANT Nashville Gathering Information* To: Jewel@smoe.org Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hey yall, I think we've finally come up with a definite plan for a gathering before the Jewel concert on Monday. The basics: DATE: 7/30 TIME: 3pm CDT (I'm thinking of pushing it to 2pm CDT, if we have to.) PLACE: Riverfront Park Directions: Riverfront Park is located DIRECTLY in the heart of downtown. If you drive to the end Broadway Blvd., you are there. There will be some rather large steps there, near the Riverfront Stage. We'll be hanging out there. I'll be in my BRIGHT YELLOW hat [as I'm taking it out of retirement for this special event]. We might even have the oh-so-traditional BLUE EDA balloons. I honestly don't think you'll miss us. From wherever you're staying, just head downtown. Parking: Unfortunately, parking in Nashville is very bad. There is a VERY small area for free parking, if you can find it. It's located on Gay St. It's a street located RIGHT along the river. Go to the end of Broadway and take a left, go past Fort Nashboro and hang right, that's Gay St. There are many paid parking lots around the area also, that range from $5-$10. (The parking garage by Kinko's is $5, I know that.) The Plan: As everyone arrives, we'll do the meet and greet. It's basic EDA protocol. We all sit/stand/dance around talking/hugging/(as of lately)fighting. Since we are downtown, there are 8 billion restaurants. (Eating is about the only thing to do in Nashville if you don't enjoy Country Music.) Those who would like to pick up a quick bite to eat, can go to these eateries which range from all price ranges. If you don't fell like eating feel free to go over to the Country Music Hall of Fame, if that's your bag. There are lots of little shops around this area, if you'd like to do that. We also have the Frist Museum of Fine Arts that just opened recently. I figure once everyone gets together, you'll know what yall will want to do. I'm just providing options. It's nothing big. We can only do so much with the time we were given, but I think it will be a great time had by all in all cases, no? I also realize a lot of you are getting here over the weekend. If anyone has any suggestions to do anything on those days... I'm open to it. Email me or post it to the list, don't be shy. However, I'm planning on the Riverfront Gathering being the main gathering of the event. I don't know if anyone will have the energy to do stuff after the show, but if you are over 21, the bar scene at Nashville, is very interesting, to say the least. You'll find live music at 9 out of 10 bars (There might even be some Reggae for you, Dennis. I promise I'll go with you this time.) I suppose will get to the bridge when we cross it. Please feel free to email me here at VCavallo@aol.com or Cara at EDAGatheringTN@aol.com for any additional information and/or questions. We all want to help you have the best time. I can't wait to see yall. Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk This is directed to all of the invitees to the Jewel concert/live recording session on Monday in Nashville. Before I start, I again wish to clarify that this email is going out individually to all 1,800 subscribers of the three versions of the Jewel mailing list at smoe.org. This is because I do not have the email addresses of the 100 invitees, thus ALL list subscribers get this email. Sorry for any inconvenience to others, but I am sure you will understand. I JUST got off the phone with MrBB, and he has informed me that over 40 of the 100 invitees have not yet RSVP'd their invitations per the instructions you received in your official invitation. It is now about 10:45pm ET Thursday, meaning you have a little over 24 hours from now to do so or you will NOT get on the *final* list of invitees that will be at the door of the venue. That is what the RSVP process is for, to finalize that you are coming and to get your name on that official FINAL list. If not on that final list, you do not get in. The J-team (Jewel management team for the new folk here) is heading to Nashville this weekend for obvious reasons and will not have computer access meaning this whole invite/RSVP/cancel/new-invite process rolls to a screeching halt late Friday evening eastern USA time. So, if you DO plan to go, you had better RSVP per the instructions in your official invitation pretty soon or you will NOT get in the door of the venue. It is that simple. Also, to be fair to the others on the waiting list, if you know you cannot attend after all, PLEASE do the honorable thing and cancel as soon as possible per the instructions in your official invitation so that new invitations can go out to people on the waiting list, who then will also have to RSVP or cancel by late tomorrow evening per the instructions they would receive. If the 40 or so of you don't, well, I guess it means 120 or so folks will have tons of room to stretch out during the show. Please don't screw up and ruin your chance to see what promises to be THE Jewel event of the century (so far anyway). As of this morning there are still 31 EDAs who were invited who have not sent in their RSVP or canceled. Invitees must RSVP to be put on the guest list, otherwise they cannot attend. If you were invited, please follow your RSVP instructions in the invitation. If you were invited but now know you cannot attend, please have the courtesy to cancel your reservation. We would like to give the EDAs on our waiting list a chance to attend if you or your guest aren't able to do so. Everyone is working under tight time restrictions here and we need your consideration on this. I'll be monitoring the RSVP/Cancellation account today and tonight, but at midnight tonight east coast time, your invitation confirmation ability is over and that account will be terminated. Invitees who have RSVPed and received their confirmation by then will comprise the final EDA guest list. We will then be unable to make any additional changes as we're off to Nashville ourselves, without computers or email until after the concert is over. This has been a fascinating project (as always) and it's sure to be a great time for all who attend. As with anything we've ever done with The EDAs, a few people are unhappy and even angry with us, but for the most part, everything went well, in my opinion. At the time of the original deadline, we only had 64 replies, so we were concerned whether this could even work, but there's a great group of people already confirmed to attend and I hope the invitees waiting until the last minute, get it together today. I look forward to meeting a lot more of you in Nashville, MrBB From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Fri Jul 27 15:52:33 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id PAA23308 for jewel-news-outgoing; Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:51:58 -0400 (EDT) Received: from smtp-out.na.baesystems.com (smtp-out.na.baesystems.com [208.19.133.17]) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/daemon-mode-jane) with ESMTP id PAA23290; Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:51:47 -0400 (EDT) Received: from baemail.na.baesystems.com (baemail.na.baesystems.com [10.63.2.20]) by smtp-out.na.baesystems.com (8.9.1b+Sun/8.9.1) with ESMTP id PAA11983; Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:53:45 -0400 (EDT) Received: from smtp-core.na.baesystems.com ([10.63.2.17]) by baemail.na.baesystems.com (PMDF V5.2-33 #44999) with ESMTP id <0GH500D8VDXLBJ@baemail.na.baesystems.com>; Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:53:45 -0400 (EDT) Received: from usa07.cs.na.baesystems.com ([166.18.21.62]) by smtp-core.na.baesystems.com (8.9.1b+Sun/8.9.1) with ESMTP id PAA03054; Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:53:44 -0400 (EDT) Received: by usa07.cs.lmco.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19) id ; Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:52:19 -0400 Content-return: allowed Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 15:52:18 -0400 From: "Connell, Michael P" Subject: Jewel-News: Reminder - Jewel Rocks The Rockies on VH1 tonight!! I am sorry for any inconvenience. I realize there's been discussion about this on the list since the original announcement, but I want to do my best to ensure the original announcement gets to everyone involved. - Mike - EDA list owner MrBB's post from this afternoon: Hi everyone, I don't know how to break this unfortunate news other than just telling you. Much to everyone's dismay, Jewel is seriously ill with strep throat and various complications and she will be unable to perform or sing until she recovers. It is with great regret that we must reschedule the private EDA concert originally scheduled for Monday evening in Nashville. This event will happen in Nashville and the guest list will stay the same when we do it, but at this point, theres not much else I can tell you as this is all breaking news as of minutes ago. I will stay in contact with The EDAs as new plans finalize. The absolute best thing you can do to help this situation right now is to help us get this information to everyone quickly. If you were going and/or have friends going, call them and please help us reach those not checking their email. Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi all, We want to update you on how Jewel is doing and plans for our private concert with The EDAs. Jewel is bouncing back and will be resting this week, with a full recovery expected by week's end. Although this cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy, she wants to go ahead and reschedule the private concert for this coming Sunday evening, which should please all of the EDAs who wrote us requesting a weekend rescheduling. The private EDA concert is now scheduled for the same time, same place, next Sunday evening in Nashville, barring anything unforeseen. We are advising everyone to read your email on a daily basis during this week, if you were invited and still plan to attend. Over the next three days (today, Tuesday and Wednesday), we are going to re-finalize the guest list and we need every invitee's co-oporation to make this work-intensive process as painless as possible. We've thought about how best to do this and determined that all invitees on the original EDA guest list are all still invited. You all know who you are and we have that list and know exactly who these EDAs (and their guests) are. If you can still make it, great, but I need you to follow these instructions: To the restored JewelConcert@aol.com account, reconfirm if you can make it this Sunday night or cancel if you cannot make it. If you plan on joining us, please include your phone # (just in case a situation arises) and if you need to change your guest. I will reply asap reconfirming you and your guest, just like before. I need every EDA already on our guest list to follow this step by Wednesday night if you still want to attend. If we don't hear from you over the next three days, you and your guest will be replaced on the guest list, so please reply asap if you still want to attend this Sunday night. Now, onto the next issue. We realize some of the guest list EDAs will be unable to make it this Sunday. That means openings are going to become available on the EDA guest list. We thought the best way to deal with this aspect of things is to allow people who were originally invited, but could not make it, first chance at it. We're hoping that approximately the same amount of people that now cancel can be filled by EDAs who had to previously cancel or did not RSVP. You all know who you are and we also have that list and know exactly who has been invited. So, if you were previously invited, but had to cancel, and now you can make it, I need you to follow these instructions: (This only applies to EDAs already invited, but who cancelled or couldn't previously go.) To the restored JewelConcert@aol.com account, let us know that you were previously invited, but had to cancel and you can now make it on Sunday night. Please include your phone # (just in case a situation arises) and let us know who your guest will be. For every cancellation from the old guest list, one new invite will go out to this group of EDAs. If we reach Thursday morning and we see that cancellations have opened up a few more seats, at that time I'll post a call for other EDAs who wish to attend. If you were not already invited, please do not write us saying you wish to attend yet. We know exactly who has been previously invited and we cannot accept emails from others before Thursday. All invitees who follow the above instructions should also include your own full name so we don't have to match it up with email addresses. (Also remember to send the requested info to JewelConcert@aol.com and not reply to this message directly!!) Other than that, lets see if we can maintain the EDA secrecy of this event until its over, so that it remains a comfortable experience for everyone. I think that about covers it. OK. Here we go. To: jewel@smoe.org Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hey kids, It's me again (Are you getting sick of me yet?). Anyway, with all this excitement, I'd just like to reschedule our gathering plans. They are going to be the same plans and place, but now set on a new day and new time. So, I'm bascially going to rehash (Cut and Paste) most of the info I gave last time, but with a new date and time. The basics: DATE: 8/5 TIME: 2pm CDT PLACE: Riverfront Park Directions: Riverfront Park is located DIRECTLY in the heart of downtown. If you drive to the end Broadway Blvd., you are there. There will be some rather large steps there, near the Riverfront Stage. We'll be hanging out there. I'll be in my BRIGHT YELLOW hat [as I might be taking it out of retirement for this special event]. Likewise, if you were on the guest list for this past Monday, but cannot attend the rescheduling, also let us know, so that another EDA can be invited. Things are going fairly well and so far only three invitees have cancelled, so it looks like most people who were already on the guest list can still attend. Thursday morning we will see who has not reconfirmed and they will be replaced by EDAs on the invitee waiting list. Here are the instructions and announcement from Monday.
