I have quite a bit of interesting news for you regarding the upcoming EDA Concerts / Gatherings at Humphrey's Aug 19 and 20th. First of all, response to these 2 events has been extrordinary. Reservations Rizioule@home.com or Rizioule@hotmail.com Please specify how many are in your party, and if you are over 21 or not. We currently have close to 70 EDA reservations for each event, and they are coming from all over the world. This does even include guests/crew ofthe bands and artists, so get those reservations while you can! EDA's will be flying, bussing and driving from Paris France, Columbus Ohio, Chicago Illinois, NewYork, Boston, Phoenix Arizona, St Louis Missouri, Los Angeles, San Francisco and of course from all over Southern California. We currently have about 7 confirmed Bands and Artists for Sundays Music Festival, including the infamous disappearing Mike Carmona of the EODA@yahoogroups.com list. Even more will be added to the line up soon. Special Note: You DO NOT have to have Jewel tickets to attend either of these EDA events! If you could not get tickets to Jewels show, that is OK. You are welcome at these gatherings. Also, I have been contacted by some very special musical artists who have indicated they would like to perform for us on Sunday. I cant say who right now because we are still working on the details, so they will be the Suprise Mystery Guests for now. (It's always fun to have Suprise Mytery Guests..eh?) That brings us to the next bit of news. This is about age requirements. (Please note this requirement only applies to Humphrey's Backstage and not to Jewels concert itsself ) It turns out that because we are having live music/ entertainment, California law requires that everyone be 21 to enter the Backstage Lounge. Oh, I hear ya' groanin' but fret not! This obstacle, (like most obstacles) has turned into quite an opportunity! When I first heard about the age thing, I thought, "Oh nO!" but I quickly figured out an alternate plan. Right across the street from Humphreys, (in Humphreys parking lot actually) is a little boat club, right on the water (bayside). I was strolling around there the other day and I noticed that they had this really cool entertainment area, with enough picknic bench seating for about 100,and standing room for over 1000. The place is perfect for an outdoor music festival. So I called them up and told them what I had in mind and they told me they would bring it at thei r meeting that just happened to be that night. Well, things didn't go so good at the meeting. They told me they couldn't do it because the area was for members only. So I said, hey, I'll join. And we just kind of laughed and I thanked the lady ( The Commodore) for trying to get it through, and she recommended I try to get one of the large pavillions just down the way. Then, a couple of days later, she called me up and told me that I seemed like such a nice fella' that she had decided to sponsor me for a membership in the boat club! So here's how it works, There are 3 meetings. One each month. I have to go to 2 meetings and get to know everyone, then, they have a third meeting that I can't go to, and they vote on letting me in. The first meeting is early June and we will be tasting wines and 3 types of lasagna. ( See what I go through for you guys :) If they let me in, we are good to go. If they don't let me in, I will have a contigency plan in place. ( It's a big Island with lots of public space, so fret not, I say. For the Gathering of Angels in '99 , we actually went through 4 venues, Java Joes, Newbreak, Sing Sing, and Sloppy Joes. Not a problem for the Rizioulator ) I am wondering if I should cut my hair, which has gottenn quite long. If we can't get the place it is probably because of my hair. If this all works out like it should, we will have the music going in both locations, with bands/performers playing inside and then outside in a rotation between Humphrey's Backstage and the Boat Club or Pavillion. The inside show will be only for 21 & up, and the outdoor show will be for everyone, and we can have a big cookout or even have Humphreys send us food. I also hope we can dust off Woody and do some cow roping/jumping, but alas, I have not heard a peep from Dennis Harris. Anouther potential source of entertainment may be FootballDarts. http://www.FootballDarts.com We are discussing a cash and prizes tournament with them, more details on that later. So here is whats up, Jewel Fans Music Festival All Day Sunday, August 19: 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm: EDA Gathering at Humphreys Backstage ( Possible Live Webcast, for those at home) and at Humphrey's outdoors, either at the Boat Club or at one of the public Pavillions Reservations Rizioule@home.com or Rizioule@hotmail.com Please specify how many are in your party, and if you are over 21 or not. Musicians interested in performing, please email me at rizioule@home.com and tell me about your music! AfterParty with Gregory Page Monday August 20th: After Party (21 & Up) Immediately Following Jewels Concert outside, We all meet in the Backstage for refreshments, good times, and a special musical performance by Gregory Page. This will be the "After Jewel Party", hopefully Jewel and band will have a couple of songs left in them and join us in this very intimate venue. Reservations Rizioule@home.com or Rizioule@hotmail.com Please specify, specify which event you would like to attend, how many are in your party, and if you are over 21 or not. Seating for the gathering and the After Party with Gregory Page is limited to 200 each event, however for the outdoor music festival attendance is pretty much unlimited. Admission to these events is free if you have advance reservations. You DO NOT have to have Jewel tickets to attend either of these EDA events! They'd like to update you on the EDA water site in Gualcea. Several EDAs have emailed asking for the "Jewel's Birthday Project" EDA totals so far. I will find out for you and post that info in the next day or two. In the meantime, I turn you over to Sean and Shane. MrBB ************************************************ We're excited to let you know that we have sent the final check to complete the funding of the water site in the community of Gualsea! As many of you know we are dedicating this site to the EDAs since so many of you have participated by helping us raise funds and sending donations. The first installment of $30,000 was sent in late August 2000, and this last installment was for $45,000. It will purchase the remaining materials needed for the construction of the system along with the last of the community education and training. The materials will be arriving before the rains begin in June, which is important for two reasons; firstly, the roads will be un-passable for quite some time during the rainy season (if the materials arrive too late it would set the project back approximately 6 months), and secondly, the rain softens the earth, making the task of hand digging the many miles of trench a whole lot easier! The community of Gualsea has already completed the engineering and design for the project, as well as a good deal of the training and organization, and has begun collecting some of the local materials to be used during construction. All of this has happened, despite the devastation of hurricane Mitch, which has created numerous problems throughout the region. The arrival of supplies, such as water pipes, faucets, and cement signifies to the community that their long awaited water project is rapidly becoming a reality. Although we call it the Gulsea community, it also includes the neighboring villages of San Antonio, Santa Rita, and El Sitio. This includes a total of 1400 people who will finally have clean water readily accessible to them. Your support has made a huge difference! We also want to let you know that we will be sending out an announcement in the next few weeks regarding the launch of our ClearwaterNetwork email list. This list will include project updates from Clearwater sites around the world, periodic announcements regarding program activities and an online newsletter. We are looking forward to being able to let you know more about all the positive things that are happening with Clearwater! With twelve days left prior to Jewel's birthday, a total of eight EDAs contributed to Clearwater since the project began a month or so ago. Collectively, they raised $312, which is much appreciated. If any of you are still wanting to donate, it's not too late to help, be it now or in the future. The Gualsea water site has the necessary funding, thanks in big part to EDAs, and future money raised will be going to other communities in Honduras that Clearwater is raising funds for in conjunction with Netaid. If you'd like to contribute to the EDA project of donating to Clearwater in Jacque's memory and/or for Jewel's birthday (or if you have no idea what I'm talking about), read on for last month's message from Shane Kilcher that will bring you up to date and includes the EDA instructions. Enjoy the weekend, MrBB Subject: Message From Shane Kilcher to The EDAs Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 Greetings EDAs, I know Jewel will be touched to receive a birthday gift dedicated to Jacque's memory. And I think a gift of clean water would really be a gift to both of them. In some of our brochures and in the Clearwater video message from Jewel and Lenedra, they tell a story of being in the jungle with a friend, drinking from water bottles, when the native elder they had been meeting with asked them to please stop. He said most of the world really can't afford to buy bottled water, and that whenever we buy our water from a factory, all purified and bottled up, then it only makes it less likely that the real problem will be addressed. What many of you may not know is that the friend they were traveling with WAS Jacque, and the goals and visions for Clearwater are as much hers as Lenedra's and Jewel's. In fact, Jacque's eldest son, Sean, is Clearwater's Executive Director and has really been instrumental in making this project what it is. Her other son, Brandon, occasionally travels with Clearwater as a videographer; they are both very passionate about the project. So the EDA idea of donating to Clearwater in Jacque's honor would be a perfect gift. Well once again you guys have really impressed me with your thoughtfulness. I think this really is the perfect gift idea. I have no idea what I'm going to get her. The other day I was commenting to Jewel that her B-day was getting near, asking her what she wanted, and mentioned that I was reminded of it by the EDAs. She said "Yeah, aren't they great? I'm really lucky to have them. As far as what I want for my birthday, well I have no idea; I'm kind of hard to shop for, aren't I? I wouldn't even know what to buy for myself." I think you all have found the perfect gift. I, on the other hand, still have no idea what to get her. "Jewel's great. Yeah, we wrote some amazing songs together," he said. "We wrote like six, five songs already... Yeah, you never know, because [with] songwriting you can never judge anybody."
