(9:00pm Saturday night on the *national* PBS station). Please keep in mind, MOST areas in the United States have their own separate PBS affiliate with their own television schedules. Many of these DO carry Austin City Limits and many do feature the same episode the national PBS station does any given weekend, but it likely would be on at a different time and even a different day. Of course many PBS stations either do not carry Austin City Limits and many do not feature the same episode the national station does. The best ways to find out if it is airing in your area this weekend are by checking your local listings. (TV Guide, newspaper etc). For many PBS stations, you can check online to see their TV schedule, and often it tells you exactly which episode of a show is airing. Head to www.pbs.org and then click on "Station Finder" at the top right corner of your screen, OR fill in your Zip Code where it asks IF that part shows up on the main pbs.org screen. If not, just click "Station Finder" and fill in your Zip Code on the next screen. It will then lead you to one or more choices for a PBS station in your area, and the web page that goes along with it. You should be able to find a TV Schedule there for your local station. (Austin City Limits airs on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings in most areas, so be sure to check all three nights) Again, please keep in mind many stations will NOT be showing this one with Jewel, while many likely will. This will likely be broadcast next Thursday, March 22 or the following Thursday, March 29th at 10:00PM EST. I'll let you know when we have the confirmed air-date so you can tune in. We'll also have that information on the www.jeweljk.com calendar when it becomes available. In other news, those of you who are fans of HBO's mega-hit show, "The Sopranos," were probably surprised last night! The plot featured a storyline where mobsters robbed the box office at a fictitious Jewel concert at Rutger's University in New Jersey. Much to their dismay, they discovered that not only was it a benefit concert, but most of the students paid for tickets using student activity cards! We have some seriously fun new things planned for Jewel's website this month and we'll be unveiling them in about a week or so. To: jewel@smoe.org, EDAF@smoe.org Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hello EDAs! The EveryDay Angels Foundation would like to share a few important announcements: *** THE FOUNDATION NAMES A NEW BOARD MEMBER We're happy to introduce the newest member of our board of directors, Ron Collins. Ron has an extensive educational background, having taught public high school and worked with several nonprofit organizations during his career. Ron lives in Austin, Texas, so expect to see more organized activities in the central part of that state. *** THE EDAF WEBSITE TO RELAUNCH MARCH 26th On March 26 our redesigned EDAF website will launch, featuring links to other organizations, musicians who have donated their talents to our cause, inspirational stories from fellow EDAs and much more. Be sure to check it out! *** UPCOMING SPRING EVENTS Shaking off the winter doldrums, the EDAF is busy preparing plenty of volunteer days. The first will take place at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside (many of you will remember the great day we had there a while back -- just think SPINACH!). The date is Saturday, March 24 from 10am-1pm. There will also be a traditional EDA gathering at the "Campbell Inn". Look for details, including directions and info on fun stuff we will do afterwards, from Tammy Campbell in the near future. If you have any questions or would like to participate, you can email Tammy at tlcathome@aol.com. We'd LOVE to see some new faces so don't be shy... everyone is welcome! Also be sure to watch for upcoming posts on possible FoodBank volunteer events in SoCal, Texas and New England, our bi-annual New Jersey beach cleanup in May and the MS Walk. *** MARCH IS RED CROSS MONTH Since 1943, March has been nationally designated "Red Cross Month", publicly recognizing the humanitarian services and accomplishments of the organization. We've held several blood drives in cooperation with the Red Cross, and encourage EDAs to contact their local offices and see how they can help out, including the very important activity of giving blood. *** WHAT IS THE EVERYDAY ANGELS FOUNDATION? For those new to the list, the EveryDay Angels Foundation (EDAF) was formed in 1997 by members of this list as a way of channeling some "angel/list energy" into our communities. Since then, the EDAF has organized and partnered with other organizations for many events across the US including beach cleanups, food bank volunteering, clothing collections, blood drives and charity walkathons. As a list project, we compiled a scrapbook called "Acts of EveryDay Kindness", which contains entries from over 100 EDA's from around the world relating stories of charity, volunteerism, and other contributions to the global community. The book was bound and presented to Jewel as a birthday gift in June, 1999 during our meetings with Higher Ground for Humanity (HGH), an organization formed by Nedra Carroll and Jewel. If you'd like to view an online version of the book, go to: www.edaf.org/kindness/edakbook.html (each page is a printable 100kb JPEG image) The EDAF has an ongoing partnership with HGH, including financial and program support. Together, we held awareness workshops for EDAs during the summer of 1999 in Bearsville, NY and Ocean Beach, CA. While founded by EDAs, the EveryDay Angels Foundation is a separate entity from the Jewel list and many of our members are from outside the list. However, all our members are "EveryDay Angels" in the truest sense of the phrase! For more information on the Foundation, including how to join our activities, please drop us a note at edafinfo@aol.com, watch for future Jewel list posts or visit our website (after March 26th) at: http://www.edaf.org While most of our formal activities occur in the northeastern New York and Boston areas, and in southern California, we expect to expand our efforts to many other areas of the US and internationally. Everyone is welcome to join in -- a good time is always had by all! Hoping to see many of you at the spring and summer events, Amy, Dennis, Tom and Ron for The EveryDay Angels Foundation ********************************************************* The EveryDay Angels Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation whose mission is to promote grassroots volunteerism and community involvement. Anyone who wants/needs to is welcome to crash at our place and join in the rest of the fun :-) I figured Saturday night we'd do the FunTime America Lasertag thing - everyone seemed to really enjoy that last time (and we're even closer to it now :-)). As usual I will be expecting people to crash friday and saturday and will send directions out to those who need them. We'll be volunteering from 10am to 1pm. For those of you who were there last time, you'll remember that the foodbank has specific volunteering guidelines which can be found on their website at http://www.njfoodbank.org/volunteer/index.html - Directions directly to the warehouse can also be found on the website (email me if you can't access the website and need directions/guidelines). Please email me ASAP if you plan to join us (even if you plan to only attend at the foodbank) so I can get those who need them the directions and get a head count before the foodbank calls for confirmation next week. Please also bring nonperishable food items to donate if you're able. Anyone wishing to make a monetary contribution to the foodbank may do so by printing out the donation form on the web site. Along with these changes comes some all-new interactive activities, which is a fancy way of saying games, games, games! That's right, you'll find a new ACTIVITIES page in our navigation menu. Here you'll find the first launch of our interactive games all about Jewel. For the page's premiere, we're offering two unique game experiences. The first is called "Bites & Baubles," which can best be described with the question: "How fast can you name that Jewel tune?" The game is loaded with sound bites from Jewel songs. Your job is to figure out which songs they are without having to ask for more clues. Then pop into the second game and test your knowledge for some straight-up Jewel trivia. Called "Jewelology," this game rewards those who've made being a Jewel fan a science. There are three levels of questions, each one harder than the last. You're bound to learn a few facts each time you play and we dare you to make it all the way to the end. So what if you do make it to the end of our games? Good question! Well, on top of just feeling pretty good about yourself, there's prizes. Right now, when you win by completing all three levels, you'll have access to exclusive live performance video clips, never seen anywhere else! We're going through the archives, pulling specially selected performances both old and new. Along with unreleased performance clips from the 1999 Spirit World Tour and the mini-solo-acoustic tour last year, future prize clips will also include never-before-seen video footage from Jewel's legendary 1996 concerts at The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, affectionately remembered as Jewelstock. For all the current information you've come to expect, pay us a visit at Jewel's official website at www.jeweljk.com. Enjoy our brand new look and for a fun diversion, don't miss the games! (AP) - Now you can find Jewel on the shelves of your local bookstore as well as the record store. The singer has written an autobiography called ``Chasing Down the Dawn: Life Stories'' using her full name, Jewel Kilcher. She describes how she grew up poor in Alaska and struggled to make ends meet before making it big as a performer. She also details her adventures on the road. ``It's a little bit hard in the press for people to get a real feel for you,'' she told AP Radio. ``They get ideas of you but not a real feel for you. So when a fan reads a book like this they can understand how my mind works.'' Jewel said she's especially proud of photography she did that appears in the book. ``The middle section is my photography,'' she said. ``My friend I was working with that helped me design the book really liked it and thought we should put it in.'' This is Jewel's second book. She released ``A Night Without Armor: Poems'' in May 1998. For those of you w/AOL, here is the link: 03/29: AOL News: Jewel Proud Of New Book Ta ta! Jenni
