They may not be available in stores anymore so if you want to see them I suggest going to the library. Here is the info... ~Cosmopolitan July 2000 with Rebecca Romijn-Stamos on cover--page 58 there is a small picture of Jewel smiling at Ty (a side view of him) while petting a horse. It also says You Asked, We Answered! Who is Jewel dating? Rodeo champion Ty Murray has lassoed the pop singer's heart. The two met at a rodeo last year and have been together ever since. (The ethereal songbird has a thing for cowboys because her dad was one.) Even thought the couple is closer than ever, as of yet they have no plans to wed-but the singer did have tongues wagging when she showed up a recent Manhattan benefit sporting a huge glittering rock. "It is absolutely not an engagement ring," her rep told us. ~Glamour September 2000 with Jennifer Lopez on cover page 114 is a section for Love Me, Love My Style showing different famous couples who may start dressing the same. Has a pic of them together with this caption.... Mr. and Mrs. Rodeo: Texan Ty Murray roped Jewel into Wild Western Wear. That is all, Take Care.... First, the news: Jewel will be performing four more solo acoustic concerts in California this November. The new confirmed dates are: Nov. 15 Escondido Performing Arts Center, Escondido, CA Nov. 16 Cerritos Performing Arts Center, Cerritos, CA Nov. 17 Fox Theatre, Stockton, CA Nov. 18 Luther Burbank Center, Santa Rosa, CA The jeweljk.com calendar has been updated today, so please check it for all additional confirmed concerts and new TV programming information. As we mentioned in the previous JeweLink, Rosie O'Donnell and Jewel were in the studio last month cutting a new duet version of "Face Of Love" for Rosie's holiday album this year. "Another Rosie Christmas" is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24th. Now Jewel's mom and manager Lenedra Carroll answers another question. Today's question was submitted by JeweLink member Don Lawrence, who asks: To your knowledge, does Jewel write for a particular audience, or does all of her work come solely from her innermost creative heart? It seems impossible that Jewel doesn't realize the demographic snapshot of her fan base is likely to be a teenage girl, yet her talents touch deeply (and however privately) the opposite spectrum—namely a 30-something father striving to lead the life of a stereotypical stoic American male. Lenedra replies: Contrary to press assumptions, Jewel’s demographic is far broader than female teenagers. About a third of her fans are over thirty. Her fan base covers a very wide spectrum, ranging in age from 8 to 70, with the largest group from 16 to 30. Fan mail and concerts indicate about a 60/40 ratio of female to male, though this varies in different parts of the country. When Jewel is commissioned to write a song, she writes for the occasion, for the mood needed. Otherwise she writes for herself. When she tries to write for radio it just doesn't work well for her. In a general sense, of course, Jewel does write for her fans. She chooses stories and messages that she feels are pertinent to her fan's experiences and interests. But she doesn't write for a particular age group, gender, or other fan segment. -Lenedra ********************************** We'll be continuing to feature new photos shot at Jewel's last concert in San Juan Capistrano on the photo page at jeweljk.com. Steve was on hand and jazzed it up as always. the best part of the show was when Jewel asked for the fans from the Interchange days to request an older song... the fans went nutz and were shouting out songs left and right. then me being in the front row with my loud voice shouted "Race Car Driver" and Jewel quickly said, "Race Car Driver? I haven't sung that one in a while. I'm not sure if i remember how it goes,, but i'll try." So she jammed!! it sounded great. then she got stuck and asked me if i knew the rest of the lyrics (of course i didn't) so she then asked the girl next to me (who did) to join her on stage and help her out. so, the girl was lifted on styage by the bouncers and did a great job!! my lesson... know the words to ALL of jewels songs if you are in the front row of her show... none the less, i had a blast and got some great shots... plus a 5 second Real Audio segment of Jewle and Steve singing YWMFM.... enjoy my photos... please take anyones you like... just give me credit for them.. thanks, --josh From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Mon Sep 11 20:57:21 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id UAA29085 for jewel-news-outgoing; Mon, 11 Sep 2000 20:57:19 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200009120057.UAA29085@smoe.org> Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000 16:30:28 -0700 Subject: Jewel-News: FWD: JeweLink September 11, 2000 To: From: Mike Connell Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Here is the latest issue of JeweLink, directly from Jewel's "people". Many people will be arriving at the "Campbell Inn" (aka Tammy & Rob's house) on Friday night, however, and staying through Sunday. The Survivor festivities and competitions will begin on Friday night but you will be able to join in at any point during the weekend. For "reservations" and directions to the Campbell's, please email Tammy at TLCathome@aol.com. Floor space is limited and going fast! Saturday night there will be an incredible Living Room Concert featuring Randi Driscoll from Southern California who's in the NYC area recording her second album. A little info about Randi: in February, she was 1 of a small handful selected out of 4,000 people to be flown to NYC to film a commerical directed by Spike Lee for the IAM.com website. She has also been performing all over the country - including Washington, DC at the Millenium March - as a result of a beautiful song she wrote about Matthew Shephard, a man who was murdered because he was gay. All the proceeds from the song go to anti-hate groups. You can check out the song and get the full story at Randi's website: www.randidriscoll.com. In case you haven't gotten the message, you definitely want to be at this LRC! As an even extra added bonus, it looks like Luna Taylor will still be in the area and will treat us to a few of her songs as well. She absolutely knocked everyone's socks off at my house on Labor Day weekend. THE BEACH CLEANUP: Please plan to arrive around 10, as we will be going over instructions; passing out gloves, garbage bags, and data cards; and signing the liabability waiver (this is required per the NJ Adopt-A-Beach program rules). Sadly, today I received an email from a friend of Mykle Mariette that Mykle had passed away recently. The friend, Terry Bishop, had discovered Mykle's relation with the EDAs while putting together a web page in his memory. What follows is the text of the email I received. Terry wrote: >To whom it may concern, > I am a friend of Mykles. I am sorry to inform you that he has died from >complications of lung cancer (believed to be a blood clot). I did not know if >you all had known that or not. Sorry to inform you this way but please >remember him when you all meet again. I discovered his interest in EDA while >compiling a web page in his memory. Please visit it and spread the link >around. > >http://www.angelfire.com/tv/lighting/mykle.html > >Peace from above - >Terry Bishop Please visit the website that Terry made for Mykle, it's quite nice and there is a guestbook there for anyone who was touched by him to share their thoughts and memories of Mykle. While Mykle had not been too active on the EDA list via posting the past two years, he was certainly quite an active member of the EDA AngelFood Bank (AFB), having made angelfood/tapes for literally hundreds of EDAs throughout the years. Old timers may recall Mykle being somewhat active in posting to the EDA list from late 1996 through mid-1998. Southern/Carolina EDAs I am sure will recall the Living Room Tour(s?) he hosted. They had some special moments I am sure some of you will post about in remembrance. Mykle also made it to two of our annual EDA/Bearsville gatherings! (in case some of you BV attendees don't recall exactly who he was, Mykle was the older gentleman, a few years older than myself, who at Bearsville 97 handed out dozens of pictures of the Hale-Bopp comet to BVers.) Mykle also was at Bearsville 99, so I am sure that many of you that were there met Mykle then. On a more personal note, from what relatively little time I spent with Mykle in the past (just that one Bearsville 97 weekend) and more than a few traded emails, I know Mykle was as much a kind and gentle a soul that has ever walked this planet. I envy those friends of his in North Carolina who knew Mykle much better than I, but do not envy them for their loss. It is a sad loss indeed. Rest in peace dear Mykle, the EDAs shall remember you. Visit the jeweljk.com photo page and enjoy these new images. Nothing else new to report, so we'll conclude today with another one of your questions answered by Lenedra. Our "Ask The Manager" question today was submitted by JeweLink member Paul Stagani, who asks: I really enjoyed seeing Jewel in concert last summer. Her band really rocked. Will Jewel be keeping the same band for touring? Will they do the studio work for her next album? Lenedra replies: Jewel hopes to keep the same band for her next album tour. It depends on their availability. Same for working in the studio on the next album. Nothing is planned yet, so it's too soon to tell. She has been performing with her band for some of the one-offs this year, when they are available, so that they all stay in sync with each other. -Lenedra That's it for today. Enjoy your weekend! You get lots of other benefits with being a member of the center and we should all try to support the arts. Ticket prices vary for the actual show. There is map of the seating chart on the web site. I am also including the links. Here is the text: Tickets will go on sale to Members of The Center on Saturday, September 23 in person at The Center's Ticket Office, or by phone at 1-800-98TICKET. Not a member? Call us and start enjoying one of the many benefits of membership: the opportunity to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the public. Remaining seats go on sale to the public on Saturday, October 7 at 10:00 am in person at The Center's Ticket Office or all Ticket master outlets, or by phone through The Center at 1-800-98TICKET or Ticket master at (619) 220-TIXS. It's been one amazing journey experiencing the development of Jewel-related fan sites and discussion groups over the past five years. We remember when only two fan sites existed and now we've lost count well past 500! It's absolutely true that fans do it best in many areas. We keep you informed about current activity, but fan sites, especially those with message boards, chat features and those that connect people who enjoy trading and sharing other common interests, are essential to the enjoyment of us all. You'll discover that longstanding fan sites, such as Adam Longfellow's "Pieces of Jewel" (http://jewel.zoonation.com/) and Gerrit Kruidhof's "Jewel Page" (http://www.endor.org/jewel/) are not only excellent examples of talented web site design, but also incredible resources for historical information and further exploration. Another such fan web site is Jason Grovert's "Ultimate Jewel Kilcher Site," which adds the dimension of live chat features and message boards for online Jewel fans to enjoy. Many of you may be familiar with his elaborate site from its previous location at jewelkilcher.com. Jason was very gracious in allowing Jewel to recover her domain name recently and continues his good work now at http://www.jewelfansite.com/. We encourage you to explore the wealth of fan sites out there and from all of us on the J-Team: Thank you, Jason. Thank you, Adam. Thank you, Gerrit. Fan sites rock!
