To: Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Summer is fast approaching, and EDAs are again gearing up for events and gatherings. *** EDA CONCERT TO BE HELD THIS WEDNESDAY AT JAVA JOE'S! The EDAF is holding a benefit concert on May 3rd at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach, CA. Scheduled performers include Joy Eden Harrison, Randi Driscoll and Carlos Olmeda. The infamous Java Joe's, which has been home to many San Diego musicians (including one Jewel Klcher :-) has moved to a new building at 1956 Bacon Street. *** JASON VIERLING APPOINTED SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR SoCal EDA Jason Vierling was named Special Events Coordinator for the EveryDay Angels Foundation earlier this week. EDAF directors Amy Neufeld and Dennis Harris are in southern California to meet with Jason and other EDAs to plan events for the next year. Jason's enthusiasm and hard work has resulted in many west coast events, including beach cleanups, foodbank volunteer days, the Project Warmth clothing drive and many LRCs with local performers. *** TEAM EDAF COMPLETES ANNUAL MS WALK Despite horrible weather, we had a very successful MS Walk on April 9. The EDAF team braved wind, snow, and 13 degree temperatures to walk along the Jersey Promenade as part of the annual Walk for Multiple Sclerosis. With the help of several EDA's, friends, and family members, our total pledges topped $1000 -- $200 over our goal! Thanks to all EDAs who sent donations and good wishes and to those who walked in other locations... hopefully you didn't have icicles hanging off your faces like we did. :-) *** ANGEL BEACH CLEANUP The following week we hit the beach for our third bi-annual cleanup of our adopted beach at the South Amboy Waterfront in New Jersey. The cleanup next is scheduled for this fall in conjunction with the worldwide waterway cleanups sponsored by the Center for Marine Conservation. Amy and Dennis hope to see many EDAs at Java Joe's this Wednesday, and hear the things they would like to see the Foundation and EDA community get involved with. I know I did & caught up on a lot of other things while the lists were down. Now that we're all back, I'll quickly run down a few things of interest. First, a quick recap on goings on related to Jewel's website. We're in the process of improving the website again & you'll find its functionality & page loading time will be improving over the next few weeks. We fixed a few problems on the lowend calendar, so anyone who's been having difficulty, that should be solved now. I'm still updating it daily. Check it often to be knowledgeable about TV programming & upcoming events. It's the best place to get a quick overview of what's currently going on. We'll also soon have the "headline news" section again, so you can read about current & recent events in more detail. In our current contest, three randomly chosen winners will receive a copy of the rare Target Stores CD "Bits & Baubles" autographed by Jewel. Simply surf to the jeweljk.com contest page & enter for your chance to win. It costs nothing to enter. Also, the Jewel website store has the second photograph in the original limited edition series available now. These are original West Kennerly photographs & they are also autographed by Jewel. You can view (& purchase) them at the jeweljk.com store page. JMerch is also running a number of specials at the moment, so take a look around. Finally, we have continued to give you all NEW photos every Tuesday & today is no exception. Have a look at the photo page & enjoy! OK now onto various other recent questions. On May 15th, many of you who've been anxious to see Jewel in Ang Lee's "Ride With The Devil" will be able to do so in the comfort of your own home. That's the date that it'll be released for home video rental on VHS & DVD. You can purchase it as well, but this is not the commercial release date, so it is priced high for video-rental stores. We expect a commercial release, at normal affordable prices, this September. The DVD does include some interesting additional things not included in the cinematic release. The DVD includes 20 minutes of additional footage cut from the "theatrical version". It'll also include the trailer for the movie & a documentary about "The Making of RWTD" that will show a bunch of behind the scenes footage during the filming. It's also in letterboxed format so you can enjoy "wide screen" viewing. JMerch is planning on carrying this when it becomes commercially available, but in the meantime, it should be easily available from your local video rental on the 15th. Several people have informed me that there is still confusion in London as to whether Jewel is warming up Counting Crows at Wembley next month. Regardless of what anyone is saying, Jewel was never booked for this show & she currently has no plans to be there. Anyone stating otherwise is mistaken. For EDAs in Southern California, I highly encourage you to journey to Java Joe's in Ocean Beach tomorrow night. They're presenting a benefit for your own EDAFoundation & not only will you meet the mysterious EDAF board members Dennis Harris & Amy Neufeld from the other coast, you'll catch three great performers: Carlos Almeda, Randi Driscoll & Joy Eden Harrison all on the same bill! Find out how you can participate in more of the EDAFoundation's great activities while enjoying great company & music at Java Joe's tomorrow night (Wednesday, May 3rd).The show starts at 8 PM, with a suggested donation to the EveryDay Angels Foundation as a cover charge. For EDAs on the other coast, Joy Eden Harrison will be swinging through New England a month from now, so mark those calendars! Other dates will be added, but confirmed so far are these: Thursday, June 1: Koffee, New Haven, CT (off Whitney Ave) Saturday, June 3: The Living Room, NYC (how appropriate!;-) Sunday, June 4: Fire & Water, Northampton, MA Joy will also be doing a Living Room Concert in Montreal on Saturday, June 10th. If you're interested in attending this, please contact host Gerry Lipnowski directly at: gerry_lipnowski@hotmail.com I highly recommend anyone in these areas take in these performances. You won't be disappointed! Joy has never officially toured this area of the country (other than the incredible 1998 Living Room Tour shows) & this is a great opportunity to listen to her in a comfortable setting. Jewel & the J-Team are currently planning a lot of great new things that we'll begin to inform you about over the next few months. There's a lot of activity even though it may seem slow these days. Stick around! Many very interesting things are just around the corner. All the best! A little over three years ago, just before I officially took over the day to day operations of the Jewel/EveryDay Angels list, the previous EDA list manager (Jeff Wasilko, who happens to also own smoe.org) decreed that auctions and such were tabooed on this list and the other smoe.org lists. The reason was simple. He pays all the bills for smoe.org (over $200 monthly back then) and he did not want others profiting off of his resources. Fair enough :-) While some of the owners of other smoe.org lists are lax in enforcing this decree, I have not been (as many of you do know). Whenever a post regarding any auctions of anything what-so-ever comes in, including posts auctioning or flat-rate selling items on Ebay and similar sites, I write the person back explaining the reasons behind the list policy forbidding such things. I also mention that the policy is in effect "with very few exceptions". Actually, there was one exception and that exception happened today. ( I had always figured that one day Jewel and/or her management would have an official auction for a charitable cause) I mention this today solely to "head off at the pass" any other/future auction posts that are not officially related to Jewel and her management. (i.e. please do not take the Jewel Auction as a "green light" for you to post auctions/Ebay etc. ). Hoping some EDAs get some real neat stuff at the auction, Mike - EDA list manager/owner/big cheese * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/jewel * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * Need some Angelfood? The dates for the annual camping gathering are July 14-16. So, let me know at this address if you think you might want to attend or have questions after reading this e-mail. (Please see the web site first - http://www.quackquack.net/bv/bv99.htm -- this years site will be up soon!) For those of you fairly new to the list (like the last 9 months), the Bearsville camping trip has become an annual event commemorating JewelStock! For the first time since that awe inspiring event, the trip does not fall on the specific date of July 18, so I chose to use the weekend before as it is closer. We all trek ourselves up (down or over) to the Woodstock/Bearsville, NY area to Steve's Campsites and 'rough it' and stuff. It's a lot of fun and we always manage to come up with activities to keep people busy. I know many of you were looking forward to having it available on Monday, but the consensus I've gotten from several places is that the new release date will be Tuesday July 18th. I don't know if this applies to release plans outside North America. It may or may not apply to European release plans which were also scheduled for Monday. Maybe an EDA in the UK can check locally & post release status for Europe. Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi All, As many of you already know, beginning this Wednesday May 17th, Auctions.com will host the first time ever official JEWEL AUCTION to benefit Higher Ground For Humanity (HGH). There's a massive list of items both small & large included in this auction. A lot more of Jewel's personal items have been added to the list & surprises are guaranteed during the three weeks. I noticed today that Jewel added a set of the Jewelstock pins (remember those?!) along with some other cool EDA-related memorabilia from her own personal collection. And of course, there will be autographed items galore! Hint to football fans: You may enjoy bidding on the official Superbowl Rain Parka & cap Jewel recieved at Superbowl XXXII (where she sang the National Anthem)! I also noticed a Taylor "Jewel" signature series guitar will be on the auction block! And I'm only looking at the auction list for week #1! NEW items will be introduced each week of the auction. This auction is your chance to bid on many highly prized collectible Jewel items including rare tapes (Yes, we have several REAL "Shiva Diva Doo Wop" cassettes!!), rare CDs (including Jewel's personal 1998 Christmas Card CDs with UNRELEASED MUSIC and "Save The Linoleum"!), rare t-shirts (yes, some original Jewelstock t-shirts from Lenedra's private stash), Jewel's surfboard, her mountain bike and the list goes on and on!! There's way too many items to even begin listing them all. Also, don't fear that everything will go at high prices because at the JEWEL AUCTION, you'll also be able to bid on JMerch merchandise that respects humanity & the Earth & buy it at your price! Almost everything at the Jewel Store will be up for bidding, including tour shirts, posters & other official merchandise most popular with fans. The auction will run for three weeks total. It begins at 6:00AM EST on Wednesday & the auction will close three weeks later at midnight (12:00AM EDT) on June 7. NEW items will be introduced each week of the auction. To participate in the JEWEL AUCTION to benefit HGH or to enjoy viewing the auction items online, simply go to www.auctions.com/jewel.asp starting Wednesday, May 17th. It's that easy! Please tell others who might be interested and feel free to post this information everywhere appropriate including Jewel message boards & fansites. Jewel, made famous by a series of nice pop songs, a progression of ever- more- flimsy tank tops, and a propensity to yodel (among other things), has made her follow-up to 1995's who- knows- how- many- selling Pieces of You yodel-free. The bad news: The melodic, manicured Spirit is top-heavy with good intentions, and therein lies the rub. Jewel is so good-natured and earnest, it's hard not to find her annoying. It's even harder to criticize her big-hearted, empathetic pop without sounding grumpy: After all, who could disagree with a couplet like "We'll fight, not out of spite/ For someone must stand up for what's right"? (well, yes). Or, "And when you're drowning in deep water/ And you wake up making love to a wall" (really, who hasn't?). Spirit spills over with songs about the power of love and faith and God, all inarguable concepts, even if they give her listeners a smug sort of satisfaction that of course, when she sings, "There is a new army coming and we are armed with faith," she's talking about them. Call it sanctimony by association; morally uplifting and sweet, but a little creepy. Granted, the world doesn't need more misanthropic singers (are you listening, Marilyn?) but there are Jehovah's Witnesses who do less proselytizing than Jewel. Jewel may have a gift for stating -- and overstating -- the obvious, as well as a lack of any discernible sense of humor, but her songs are low-key and lovely, and her songwriting has improved immensely. She remains a powerful singer who has only grown more assured since her debut (Pieces of You could be distractingly rudimentary, though anyone who has only heard the redone radio singles might not be able to tell). There's nothing as immediate -- and as decidedly down- to- earth -- as "You Were Meant for Me," but there are plenty of songs about things like the fragile flame of love, and embracing the unnamed. Even Marilyn Manson might find it hard to disagree with that. Benefit to Take Place on May 31 at UCLA Updated 2:36 PM ET May 12, 2000 LOS ANGELES, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-platinum recording artist and humanitarian Jewel joins forces with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for its first annual fundraiser, "Earth To LA!," an evening of comedy, music and short films, to take place at UCLA's Royce Hall at 8 p.m. on May 31. Jewel will perform live in support of NRDC's cause. The evening's festivities will also be highlighted with appearances and performances by "Seinfield" co-creator Larry David, Al Franken, Diane Keaton, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Carole King and Rob Reiner, among others. A VIP reception will follow the event. The benefit is designed to inform and entertain an audience comprised of 1800 opinion makers, entertainment community leaders, friends of NRDC, UCLA students and the general public about the important and crucial work of the organization. Event Chairs include Cindy and Alan Horn, Peter Morton, Robert Redford, Laurie and Larry David, Ruth Hunter and Sean Daniel, Susan and Ted Harbert, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Rob and Michele Reiner. "For the past 30 years, NRDC has devoted its time and energy to protecting the Earth and its people," said NRDC Board of Trustees Member, Alan Horn. "Jewel is a strong supporter of the environment and we are thrilled to have her take part in this important evening. The Earth To LA! benefit will raise funds critically needed to continue our efforts -- especially in Los Angeles -- and raise awareness of the important work that's already been done." Jewel made her recording debut in 1995 with the release of her first album for Atlantic Records, "PIECES OF YOU," which established her as one of the most gifted and accomplished young artists in music today. Last year, the album received the RIAA's prestigious Diamond Award -- representing U.S. sales in excess of 10 million copies. Jewel's second album, "SPIRIT," was released in 1998 and entered Billboard magazine's pop album chart at #3, becoming another multi-platinum success. Last fall saw the release of "JOY: A HOLIDAY COLLECTION," produced by the famed Arif Mardin. To date, Jewel has sold nearly 20 million albums worldwide. Jewel's considerable achievements as a singer, songwriter, and performer represent just one area of her creative life. Her first book of poetry, A Night Without Armor, was published in 1998 and became a mainstay on The New York Times bestseller list. Last November, she made her acclaimed acting debut in the film Ride With The Devil, directed by Ang Lee (Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm). In 1999, Jewel and Lenedra Carroll, her mother and manager, founded the humanitarian organization Higher Ground for Humanity (HGH), dedicated to promoting human excellence. NRDC is a leading national environmental organization with more than 400,000 members working to restore the integrity of the elements that sustain life -- air, land and water -- and to defend endangered natural places. Formed in 1970 by a small group of environmental lawyers, now a staff of more than 170 attorneys, scientists and policy analysts in four offices, NRDC is winning the fights that matter most for the Earth and its people. Here in Southern California, NRDC is: eliminating smog and enforcing the phase-out of polluting and hazardous diesel trucks and buses; protecting children by reducing their exposure to pesticides and other toxic chemicals; restoring Santa Monica Bay and preserving the California coast; and saving our national parks, forests and wildlife refuges from the threats of overuse, mining and logging. One-time collaborator Michael McDonald dusted off two Steely Dan tunes, ``Peg=B4=B4 and ``Pretzel Logic,=B4=B4 for the black-tie audience at performing rights organization ASCAP=B4s 17th annual Pop Awards ceremony. However group members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, currently on tour in support of their first new album in almost 20 years, ``Two Against Nature,=B4=B4 did not perform. In receiving ASCAP's Founders Award, which recognizes a lifetime achievement in songwriting, Becker and Fagen followed in the footsteps of previous winners such as Joni Mitchell, Stephen Sondheim and Smokey Robinson. Fagen reminded the audience how he and Becker failed to make their mark as songwriters in the late 1960s before forming Steely Dan in 1972. He paid tribute to his influences -- ``a lot of blues, a lot of Dylan.=B4=B4 **Other performers included Christina Aguilera, who wowed the crowd with a soulful rendition of Etta James' ``At Last,=B4=B4 and Jewel, who performed a brand new tune ``Break Me=B4=B4 and her recent hit ``Hands.=B4=B4 ** The ceremony, hosted by the American Society of Composers Authors & Publishers, honors songwriters whose works received the most performances during the survey period. Swedish tunesmith Max Martin, one of the talents behind Britney Spears, 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys, was named songwriter of the year for the second time in a row. He sent in a video from Sweden saying that he was busy with the new Backstreet Boys album. Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik won the song of the year prize for his band's hit "Slide." --WebTV-Mail-17326-12806 X-URL-Title: Steely Dan Honored at Music Industry Dinner Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit http://dailynews.yahoo.com/htx/nm/20000523/re/music_steelydan_1.html --WebTV-Mail-17326-12806-- From owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Fri May 26 16:14:10 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/jewelq-jane) id QAA09024 for jewel-news-outgoing; Fri, 26 May 2000 16:14:09 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200005262014.QAA09024@smoe.org> Date: Fri, 26 May 2000 04:24:03 -0400 From: Mike Connell To: Kyle Adema , jewel@smoe.org Subject: Jewel-News: * Re: Break Me Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Kyle asked: >I've been gone for a while, and have written to the list in a >real long while, so this is kind of old, but a while ago someone >posted an address for an RA file for the new song "Break Me", >but I lost it, if anyone knows where it is could you please tell >me, Thanks! Peace, Cymbaline ------ Multi-platinum selling pop star Jewel is mesmerizing in an hour-long performance of her finest folk-rock June 3, 2000, on PBS (check local listings for exact date and time). There could be something cosmic in the timing of pop sensation Jewel's debut appearance on Austin City Limits. After all, the celebrated musician and the award-winning television program both entered the new millennium celebrating a glorious 25 years of existence. Rather than unseen forces, however, it is more likely that Jewel's Austin City Limits debut is simply due to the fact that her star has risen so spectacularly - and with comet-like velocity - to rank her among the premier young artists of the day. Her road to fame is a rags-to-riches story - so fascinating it might have been hatched out of a Hollywood dream factory. While still an infant, her free-spirited parents Alz and Nedra moved her to a massive homestead in Homer, Alaska, in 1974 (the very year Willie Nelson & Family taped the Austin City Limits pilot episode). With few of the standard diversions taken for granted by most kids - no television or telephones, for starters - Jewel relied on her own creative and artistic instincts to keep life interesting. By the time she was a junior in high school, she had polished her musical and literary skills enough to earn a scholarship to the prestigious Interlochen Fine Arts Academy in Michigan. She moved to San Diego after graduation to join her mother - by this time divorced from her father - and plunged-in earnestly to help make ends meet. But she found that working left her little time to pursue her twin passions of writing and playing music so she decided to take a bold step: quit her job and move into a '69 Volkswagen bus to be free to focus her energies entirely on songwriting. Life remained a struggle, but her faith and perseverance soon paid off when she landed a modest weekly gig at a local coffeehouse called the Innerchange. Word-of-mouth led to increasingly larger audiences and a growing buzz that eventually reached all the way to Atlantic Records. Label representatives who caught her show were blown away by her versatile voice, charming stage persona, and VW-penned songs with themes of hope and human virtue. She signed her first record contract with Atlantic shortly thereafter. Pieces of You, released in early 1995, stalled right out of the blocks. The first single "Who Will Save Your Soul?" also failed to dent the charts. Undaunted, Jewel set off on a marathon tour which saw her criss-crossing the country playing hundreds of shows in a year's time. As she gained momentum from the breakneck touring, Atlantic re-released "Who will Save Your Soul?" igniting a Jewel frenzy. The album became a smash hit, and in the words of USA Today " ... established Jewel as the reigning diva of hippie folk/rock." Pieces, consisting of songs she wrote as a teenager, would eventually climb into the ranks of the most successful debuts in history by selling in excess of 10 million copies. Before getting around to a follow-up record, Jewel published a best-selling book of poetry called A Night Without Armor, and toured as a Lilith Fair headliner. With understandably high expectations, her second album Spirit was released in 1998 to solid reviews. Of the record, that went triple-platinum two months after its release, Time wrote, "On Spirit, Jewel is once again firmly rooted in pop-folk, but her vocals are richer, and her songwriting is sharper." After her Austin City Limits debut, Jewel spoke about the pleasure of performing in such an intimate setting: "I pick my songs according to how (the crowd) is feeling. That's easier to do in a room like this where you can see people's faces. When it gets really big and you can't see people's faces, it's hard to keep the energy going. In rooms like this, I really enjoy it." The Austin City Limits audience was clearly thrilled with her choice of songs. The talented singer's set list included newer material such as the Texas-themed "Stephenville" as well as her blockbuster hits "Hands," and "Who Will Save Your Soul?" Austin City Limits is a production of KLRU/Austin, the Capital of Texas Public Telecommunications Council. Funding is provided in part by Agillion, Chevrolet, Mars Music, and The Texas Department of Economic Development Tourism Division. Additional funding is provided by public television stations and viewers. Song List: Jewel "Stephenville" "Break Me" "Sometimes It Be That Way" "Hands" "Deep Water" "I Thought I Saw You" "You Were Meant For Me" "Life Uncommon" "Love Me or Leave Me" "Who Will Save Your Soul?" Now, it's less than two weeks before Joy makes her east coast tour and returns to play another Living Room Concert in my backyard in Massachusetts! EVERYONE on this list is invited to come over to my house the evening of June 9th, hang out, eat some good food and experience one of the absolute coolest things to ever come from THIS list -- a Living Room Tour, up close and personal. The standard Living Room Tour rules apply: good music, good food, good fun and a suggested $10 donation to help cover the artist's travel expenses. I've gotten a few RSVP's already, including some EDAs outside Massachusetts -- Amy Neufeld, Alan Bershaw (Mr.BB), Tom Proven and Mike Connell (the Jewel list moderator). I expect quite a few other EDAs will confirm this week. And, despite a year of seclusion, "where are they now" celebrity Woody the Plywood Cow will undoubtedly come out of the closet to make an appearance and dodge a few ropes... ;-) I do ask that folks RSVP as soon as possible to plan ahead for enough food and floor space for out-of-towners. First, as visitors to the Jewel Auction already know, one of the "unannounced surprise" items being auctioned, is a set of four tickets to a private concert in NYC on Tuesday June 6th. This concert is not open to the public. However, the concert is being recorded for a special RCA high definition TV promotion & two days later, on June 8th, anyone within distance of a Radio Shack can go watch this concert for free! On June 8th, Radio Shacks nationwide will be broadcasting Jewel's concert on walls of high definition TV displays in their stores. I believe the concert will begin broadcasting at 7PM regardless of your time zone. (Call your local RS to be sure.) Also, a few people wrote me asking about the Christmas CD at the Jewel Auction. This is actually the rarest of all Jewel rarities! I think many probably thought this was the 1997 Atlantic promo Christmas CD that had "Angel Standing By" & a brief holiday greeting from Jewel. That's NOT what it is! This CD was a special Christmas Card CD that Jewel gave only to staff, family & friends for Christmas 98. It contains Jewel & Lenedra singing accapella (unaccompanied) versions of "Rudolph" & "I Wonder As I Wander" and has some humorous dialogue after that. It comes in a special "holiday card" slipcase as well. These are far more scarce than any other "official" Jewel recording. We hope you're all having fun at the auction! Last night a member of both of these lists sent on a post expressing dismay at a reply he had received from JMerch in regards to a question he and others had about the destination of the proceeds from the auction. It was not his fault (he was just sending on what he received from them), but it turns out he received inaccurate information from "JMerch", who of course is the official Jewel store and handlers of the presently ongoing online Jewel auction. While the post went on through to the unmoderated EODA list, I held it up from the moderated EDA list for one basic reason. While I myself was dismayed at the information posted, I had to verify it as I had adopted an EDA list policy about a year ago to verify all posts with "information from JMerch", as we had a few problems with inaccurate info being posted. (again, through no fault of the person sending on the post, back then it was usually a misinterpretation problem). A sent on a copy of the post to JMerch, and this is the letter I just received from them in reply. Mike - EDA list manager / EODA list member P.S. Please note that Chuck did not know about the EODA list until just a few minutes ago (after he wrote this message), and only addresses the EDA list in it. _______ The letter from JMerch: Dear Mike and Jewel fans, It has come to our attention that inaccurate information was released concerning the Jewel auction at auctions.com. Due to the huge increase in correspondence that has been generated by the auction, people unfamiliar with both future Jewel plans and auction details were put in a position to answer auction questions. Primarily these individuals were asked to assist bidders and answer questions regarding how payments may be handled. We have recently learned that an uninformed and unauthorized response was sent to an EDA list subscriber. The individual who responded to the EDA list subscriber was not knowledgeable enough to reply to questions regarding auction expenses or revenue distribution. From the auction's inception, the main goal of the auction was to have JMerch provide much needed revenue to Higher Ground for Humanity's Clearwater Project to provide clean drinking water to people who do not have it. Secondly JMerch aimed to provide some online fun and excitement to Jewel fans throughout the world by offering some personal effects of Jewel's. Fans have been requesting an auction for many years, and JMerch wanted to fulfill some of the fan requests. HGH is receiving a portion of each auction sale. The rest of the money raised for the auction goes towards the cost of the physical merchandise and toward defraying the costs associated with creating, maintaining and operating the auction. We sincerely hope that the Jewel Auction continues to provide some fun and excitement for Jewel fans while simultaneously providing much needed revenue for HGH's Clearwater Project. Should you have any further questions concerning this letter, please contact me directly at JMerch. Thank you for understanding JMerch's position on this delicate matter. We value your incredible contribution to the EDA List. Sender: owner-jewel-news@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hi again each & every one of you, After years of you patiently waiting, we are about to fulfill another longtime J-Team promise to you. This coming Friday we are very happy to be finally launching JeweLink, Jewel's official mailing list. As oldtimers know, Jewel has been collecting mailing list fan info since the InnerChange days back in 1993, when you had to physically sign up at her coffeehouse gigs. Thankfully, we're all more technically aware now, and we (Jewel included) want to have the ability to communicate more directly with all of you. Today the EDA's are comprised of approximately three thousand people while Jewel's mailing list database is over ten times that number. We want to expand communications and continue to grow our relationship with all Jewel fans. It's important to say that JeweLink is in no way meant to replace these great EDA/Jewel discussion lists. Although occasional interactive things will occur, JeweLink is not a discussion list at all. It will be Jewel's official communications list and hopefully will enhance your EDA experience, directly connect us all a lot better and include more people. There's a lot more of you who want to be connected and it's time to include everyone. I'll continue to keep you informed with JeweLink, but we'll be more like a real newsletter with direct input and content from Lenedra and Jewel. The purpose of JeweLink is to link you to Jewel & Jewel fans everywhere and provide you with an official source of accurate information regarding current projects and upcoming events in Jewel's career. In addition to breaking news, advance tour date and media appearance information, JeweLink will feature special announcements from Jewel management, occasional fan invitations to special events and TV tapings, exclusive merchandise specials for subscribers, Higher Ground For Humanity project news, jeweljk.com website update notifications and best of all, messages directly to you from Lenedra and Jewel. We also plan to share favorite music, books, ideas and thoughts with you and generally form a more personal official link between us all. We look forward to establishing an even better and more enjoyable relationship with you! JeweLink will occasionally set up interactive capabilities so that you can communicate back to us and participate in special events, but it will primarily be an announcement list that should not be confused with existing Jewel discussion lists. We'll be an announcement listserv (and NOT a discussion listserv like jewel@smoe.org). Since you can only reply to JeweLink for tech-help, this "EDA/Jewel" list will remain the primary online place for all Jewel related discussion. Jewel fans in our worldwide database will be automatically sent JeweLink, but you can also subscribe yourself by simply sending an empty email to: join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com You do not need a subject or to say anything in the message like "please subscribe me." It's really that easy. There is also a JeweLink web interface at jeweljk.com where joining is just a mouse-click away. It's located on the "email" page. Before we enter this next phase though, I want to extend a huge THANK YOU to two people who have helped every one of you as well as us. First, Mike Connell, your trusty listowner who not only keeps this great EDA community functioning, but has literally taken me from a computer newbie to understanding the dynamics and little idiosyncrasies of listserv management in the last 5 years of our friendship. Thank You Mike! Also a huge thanks to Jeff Wasilko, the smoe.org owner who created (and personally finances!) the Jewel/EDA discussion list that we all enjoy so much. Jeff is not only responsible for FREELY providing us all with the EDA experience, but he was a big help directing us to places that were valuable in our research as we created JeweLink. Thank You Jeff! Big Thanks especially to YOU, and all EDAs everywhere! You changed my life (and my name for that matter! ;-) over the past five years. It's been a wild ride! I hope you all enjoy JeweLink! MrBB
