Meg Braun came very highly recommended by my friends Gordon Nash, Christine Stay, and by the Kennedys themselves. I don't always mention the opening act when I do a review. But I'll say a little bit about Meg Braun before I go on to the Kennedys. Meg had instant rapport with the audience, partly because of her easy-going manner (although I'll bet she was nervous); partly because of her songs, which all seemed to go straight to the heart of the subject matter; and partly because of her voice, which sounded like a friend and was as big as all indoors. Some credit has to go to Jake Jacobson and the staff of Circle of Friends. This is one of the best venues in the NE, and both Meg Braun and the Kennedys looked and sounded great at Circle of Friends, thanks in part to the thoughtfully crafted lighting and the great sound. On the last song "Stand," Meg was really wailing on the choruses, having come up with a different vocal than what I'd ever heard before, and I've heard a lot of versions of "Stand" by the Kennedys with various guest artists since '03. "Season of the Witch," "Down Down Down," "Air," and "Matty Groves" were all done non-stop, as at Rowayton last weekend (but in a slightly different order). I'm loving life this fall (with so many great shows) and I'm loving the Kennedys!
