What to say, what to say. Anyone could've wanted to say that so far! A passion for living. Life embodied in song. Inspiration. Maura Kennedy's crystal-clear, crisp singing, opening up the ears, the eyes, the heart. Music to make you sit up and take notice. An eye-opener, a heart-opener. "My heart needs a can opener!" This is the song to do that. "Life Is Large" is a "can do" song. It's a song of hope, of the majesty of living, of empowerment. And Pete Kennedy's jangly poetics on guitar, a master's master, a jangle-poet among and above all jangle-poets. Pete's fretwork on The Kennedys' "Life Is Large" flows, spins, and soars, just like the miller's waterwheel in Dave Carter's "The Mountain," flowing, spinning, and then soaring when some roving bird finds me, "and over the water we'll ride." This has been the Kennedys' signature song for as long as I can remember, and its role prior to "Stand" in '03 was so important, they used to begin and end every show with "Life Is Large." It's a true blue phenomenon, a white tornado. The Kennedys first perfected their art of wonder in "River of Falling Stars." But the sense of wonder they've brought to life in "Life Is Large" has never been surpassed -- a lifeline, a lifetime, a lifelong friend. Life, life, life, joyfully and wonderfully expressed in words and music. It even quotes from a song of joy -- Bach's "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring," in the guitar break after the second verse. When you hear Pete & Maura jump into the opening chords of a "Life Is Large" at a Kennedys show, you know the emotions you're feeling are real. You're in for a good time! "Life Is Large" ! Life Is Large (Pete & Maura Kennedy) I knew a man, he never went very far He had a hollow in his soul, a hollow in his heart He'd come home every night and turn on the TV Oh, but he ain't nothing like you or me He ain't nothing like you or me Life is large It's bigger than the both of us Life is large All you need is just a little trust Be yourself and stand your ground Don't let nobody turn you around Life is large I knew a woman, she lived in our town She had a bad situation, it nearly took her down And then one day, I guess it just got old She packed her bags and hit the road Filled the tank and took control Life is large It's bigger than the both of us Life is large All you need is just a little trust Be yourself and stand your ground Don't let nobody turn you around Life is large You've only got one chance to walk this line And if you should get lost or stuck in time Just believe this road does not end here How do you want to be remembered? A raging fire or a dying ember? Life is large It's bigger than the both of us Life is large All you need is just a little trust Be yourself and stand your ground Don't let nobody turn you around Life is large Life is large Life is large Life is large Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Sep 2009 23:53:58 EDT From: MercyHouse1@aol.com Subject: [JP] "Love Train" I've seen the Kennedys do the O'Jays' "Love Train" any number of times -- most notably as the Snacks (with Christina Thompson Lively, Cadence Carroll, and Eric Lee) on the Family Stage at Falcon Ridge, and as themselves on the midway at Falcon Ridge several years earlier, right in front of their vintage clothing booth, both times leading a conga line of onlookers and fans in a Love Train. Each time they do the "Love Train," it's one of the most fun and defining Kennedys moments ever for me, in a song that fits Pete & Maura to a tee. Get onboard! Kennedys are on my Love Train! One of the great train songs, a train that's bound for glory, and if you miss this train, "I'll feel sorry, sorry for you."
