After the "trippy-lights" passage near the end, astronaut David Bowman (played by Keir Dullea) is incrementally transformed from young man to middle-aged man to elderly man to Star-Child floating in space high above the earth. I was reminded of the premise of the Kennedys' song "Breathe" from the album Better Dreams, about the ambiguity between dying and being born. If being born is a kind of dying, being cast out from the Eden-like safety of the womb, is death, too, a passageway to another world and a "New Way to Live" ? Breathe (Pete & Maura Kennedy) Didn't we all die? Didn't we all die at the start? Aren't we alright? Aren't we alright, for the most part? Is there an ending, Really an end to all of this? Or just a beginning, Another beginning, so why resist? Take a breath Let it out Let it in Just begin again and Breathe into a new life Breathe out all the old times Nothing to hold onto anymore Watch the light Let it shine Just like being born But you're wiser this time What are we scared of? Why are we frightened of the dark? Maybe it's nothing Maybe it's nothing but a spark Everyone's longing Everyone's longing to be wise But what if it's simple Easy as opening your eyes? Take a breath Let it out Let it in Just begin again and Breathe into a new life Breathe out all the old times Nothing to hold onto anymore Watch the light Let it shine Just like being born But you're wiser this time Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V10 #32 **********************************
