January 31 was the Kennedys Buddy Holly Surprise, performing under the alias of Annie and the Midnight Shift at a record store in NJ. April 11 (Saturday) was the Kennedys Easter Surprise, when they unleashed Mike Delaney singing "I Wanna Be Maura Kennedy" to an unsuspecting audience at the Driftwood Folk Cafe in Plymouth MA. It's nice to be surprised sometimes. The Kennedys are full of surprises! Mike Morris did a ripping great set as the opener. His last song was completely improvised, based on three random things shouted out from the audience before the song -- "baseball," "armadillos," and something else, "cherry pie" maybe? "Cupcake"? I can't remember. His breakneck-tempo, almost symphonic guitar playing style reminded me of Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke. That was a surprise too. Jake Jacobson has pix of the show on his Facebook page.
