TK played 3/7/09 -- I wrote the review 3/14/09 -- today is 3/24/09. ======================================== I've been so wicked busy with March Madness, it hadn't even dawned on me till now that the 2 Kennedys Turning Point reviews and an accounting of the Postcrypt Raina Rose, Rebecca Loebe, and Chuck E. Costa adventure are a full week late in coming. Cadence Carroll and the Nields at the Living Room took a lot of time to digest, and setting down my impressions of the Kennedys stint with Richard Barone at Joe's Pub took even more. I've just finished half of a four-day run, with Raina and Rebecca Thursday in Cambridge and Friday in Marblehead, with another one from them coming Sunday night at the Burren and Chris & Meredith Thompson tonight in Jamaica Plain. My New York Weekend (last weekend, 6 shows in 2 days) continued with the Kennedys at the Turning Point -- 5PM -- This Moment River of Fallen Stars Wall of Death Get It Right Namaste Everyday That'll Be the Day Shearwater When I Go Stephen's Green Fortune Teller Road Tiptoe Through the Tulips intro Rhapsody in Blue Nature Boy Can't Catch Me Matty Groves Thing With Feathers Shadows With the Lonely New Way to Live 8 Miles High Life Is Large I've heard P&M do a bunch of the Buddy Holly songs for the past month, but this was my first time hearing them do "That'll Be the Day." "The Thing With Feathers" was debuted at Hastings-on-Hudson 2/28/09 with Pete Heitzman sitting in on guitar, so the Turning Point performance constituted Maura's solo debut of the song when she was completely unaccompanied by anyone else, and probably only the second time it'd ever been played live. Maura Kennedy's new song "The Thing With Feathers" is so unique and outstand ing, I'll have to return to it in a separate treatment, when time allows. 7PM -- Life Is Large Half a Million Miles Velvet Glove Easy People I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better And Your Bird Can Sing Can't Catch Me Alabama Rain Midnight Ghost Down Down Down Season of the Witch Thing With Feathers Make It Last Chains Everyday Rave On Raining in My Heart Not Fade Away Stand Kennedys rocked the Turning Point with 2 great shows, almost completely different. Then I had to hightail it down the Palisades and over the George Washington Bridge in a hurry, to try to salvage as much as I could of Raina Rose, Rebecca Loebe, and Chuck E. Costa at Postcrypt Coffeehouse in the city, later that same night.
