One of the experts had never heard of Reverb Nation, interestingly enough. Twitter seems to be the THE hot thing now. There are a gazillion more sites too... it'll take artists and agents and others forever to update all of them on a daily basis! Intense. But in the meantime, I'll bite, in case anyone has any insight. Twitter? Really? I can't imagine what Twitter has to offer for artists that other services can't do better. I just looked at a very tiny sampling by typing "Twitter" into my Gmail search and following the links to the artists that popped up -- who were, incidentally, Pat Wictor, Danny Schmidt, Girlyman, and Christine Kane -- and none of them seem especially useful for artists in terms of business. They seem to fall roughly into two categories. One is normal non-artist-specific Twitter entries ("This is what I'm doing / reading / thinking / seeing right now"), which are sometimes fun to read, and I suppose could be useful in terms of making people feel like they know artists better as people, but that's about it. The other is "This is where I'm playing tonight" entries, which seems possibly useful as reminders in the relatively rare cases of people who are interested enough in a show to go but not interested enough to remember that it's happening, but considering how many of those tweets would be irrelevant to any given person, it seems terribly inefficient. Even Facebook "Event" reminders -- which can still get annoying if you're invited to a lot of events in geographically distant places -- seem more practical. On a more general note, I wonder how many of those gazillion sites are worth the time and energy to constantly update. The official website, Facebook, and MySpace, sure. But are you connecting with your fans more by sending out a one-liner every few days or a thoughtful newsletter once a month (potentially combined with geographically targeted reminder e-mails)? ~'becca http://folkmusichub.bravehost.com On Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 11:28 AM, Kathy Sands-Boehmer wrote: > I went to a workshop here at Folk Alliance on Social Networking tools for > artists...
