I'd seen the Kennedys there before, but was grateful for my son Peter's assistance with printed directions as the rural backroads in this part of Massachusetts are windy and tricky. There was nothing either windy or tricky about the Kennedys' set, unless it was Pete pulling out one item after another from his bag of tricks on guitar! Here's what they played -- The Kennedys -- Midnight Ghost Speed of Soul I Found a Road Breathe Maura -- Chains Sun Burns Gold Pete -- You Can't Catch Me Alabama Rain The Kennedys -- Matty Groves Medley: Jesu, Blackbird, Bouree 8 Miles High Medley continued with Pete on uke: Tiptoe Through the Tulips Purple Haze, Rhapsody in Blue Not Fade Away Stand (encore) As at Falcon Ridge, I got to lead the audience on the cool fist-in-the-air "Hey! Hey!" arm pumps on "I Found a Road." And I got to sit right next to Chris O'Brien (who played right before them) during the Kennedys' set. P&M made two funny comments before "Stand." The first, with a nod to all-inclusiveness regardless of religious persuasion, was its being dedicated to the god "Pan" ! As in "panuniversalism." :-) Then there was the comment with regard to both the performers and the audience being situated in a tent shading all from the heat of the sun -- "We're all in the same tent." :-) Before "I Found a Road," Maura instructed everyone -- "Follow the bouncing Bruce!" :-) I've been bouncing from one Kennedys appearance to another this month. When September goes, I'll look back and say with Mary Hopkin, "Those were the days!" But while the month still lasts and it's still September, I can honestly say with Carly Simon -- "These are the good old days!" It's been a while in coming, but now there is a Facebook Band page for The Kennedys! "Check it out," as the Nields sing -- the Kennedys new Facebook page is great!
