Last week, both Pete and Maura played all-acoustic solo sets. This week, trying something completely different, both plugged in, Pete playing electric sitar for his set and Maura playing electric guitar. Pete -- Eldorado While My Sitar Gently Weeps Same Old Way Five Hundred Miles 19 in Vietnam As I Went Out Little Wing Nature Boy Jam incl. Bouree Nature Boy (ending) Pete's set was done as one continuous medley of songs, without a break, as was done at the very first Strangelings show at PACE last year. It was a real adventure musically, and Pete was all over the fretboard of those twangy electric sitar strings! Maura -- Chains Patience Time Will Steal Your Heart Just the Rain Sun Burns Gold Freefall New Way to Live What is it about girls playing electric guitars? Maura was very much the rock star this time out, and I was reminded of the electrifying experience of seeing Sarah McLachlan for the very first time back in '94, when she rocked out playing electric guitar with her band on "Plenty," "Hold On," and "Wait." And I was "Freefalling" when Maura dedicated the song "Freefall" to me! That hadn't happened since I was front-row Bruce, sitting at the exact same spot relative to the band, when the Kennedys played the 7th of the seven Summer in December shows with the Nields and Susan Werner, at Club Helsinki in 2002. And I hadn't heard Maura play "Freefall" since 6/6/08, also at Club Helsinki, which was the first time it was played. Maura explained that each of her new solo songs came in a different month, as she has been on the regimen of writing a song a month. I couldn't help but think that the ten projected songs are two songs short of the twelve months of the year, and that the album should be cast as a concept album, called "Calendar Girl" ! With a song (and maybe even a video) for each month. :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V9 #215 **********************************
