His words re-echoed for me today, seeming to come true, as the "Joyful Dancing Spirits" were mine and those of TK, along with the spirits of everyone else who braved the summer rain to see P&M play at Madison Square Park in Manhattan. I was reminded of two other Kennedys rain shows -- at the Bridgeton Fountain 5/31/02 (the day before that Appel Farm) where P&M actually broke into a rendition of "Rain" as the showers came -- and the 5/27/01 Mayfair in Allentown, after the Lightning Show when Nerissa's solo set was cut short by lightning, and P&M did an impromptu unplugged set under a picnic shelter for a very few fans in the pouring rain that ensued. Wednesday night's rain was more of a constant drizzle, lasting from P&M's first song until Maura started her solo set. Pete joked that Maura's musical enchantment had charmed the rain away, whereas Maura attributed the trick to Pete's playing his new song "Alabama Rain." TK were barely covered by an awning over the outdoor stage, with a drip-drip-drip puddle almost at their feet at the edge of the stage, whilst the hardy concertgoers (myself included) made do with whatever tarps, raingear, and umbrellas were available. Hardly cats and dogs, but it was raining great music and wonderful NYC vibes with the Kennedys playing a free outdoor show at Madison Square Park! "Joyful Dancing Spirits" indeed! Life Is Large Speed of Soul I Found a Road River of Fallen Stars 9th Street Billy Breathe Matty Groves Dharma Cafe Midnight Ghost Wall of Death Chimes of Freedom Patience Chains You Can't Catch Me Alabama Rain 8 Miles High Rhapsody in Blue Stand (encore) The crowd gave out a big cheer when P&M announced that they were moving back to NYC. Spontanuity reigned when Maura broke a string during 8 Miles High, with Pete switching to uke and vamping on that until Maura could switch her guitar for Pete's in a seamless musical transition, as only TK can do when they're winging it and flying by the seat of their pants. I couldn't wait until Clearwater to see TK again, and with their impending removal from my home state of MA hanging over my head like a thundercloud, I thought I'd better make the scene at the park and check out TK in NYC. I the Kennedys! "Love Rain O'er Me -- !!" Next up - Clearwater!
