A quite current example of the form is The Kennedys' own MySpace blog, to which I recently subscribed. Earlier today I received an e-mail alerting me to the fact that a new video and a separate streaming audio file have been posted on their MySpace page. I simply clicked on the link, signed in, and was treated to two terrific new Kennedys covers of Beatles songs. Pete has posted his extensive autobiographical writings on his MySpace blog. To the best of my knowledge, those lengthy writings have not appeared on jangle-poets. But I would venture to guess that many if not most of the jangle-poets have found them and enjoyed reading them at their own pace, without having them show up in the e-mail box. The other advantage of blogs (at least some of them) is the capacity for including video and audio files, which would seem ideally suited to the type of reporting on live shows that so often forms the substance of the posts under discussion. Granted, blogs seem not to have quite the sense of immediacy and feel of a "discussion" as these list-servs, but then there are trade-offs everywhere in life. And, oh yeah, did I mention that there are two great new performances posted on The Kennedys' MySpace page? Life IS Large! And now I've had about another week to reflect on it all. I'm looking for the peaceable solution that Sheila expressed hope of finding.
