Just wanted to clarify my lyrics: Shades of you hide in my memory Where I held you out of range You beautiful to touch then A mystery too deep to know, too true to change (by the way, if you go to the myspace page where the tracks play automatically, there's a link below each song for lyrics. You can also leave comments on the songs.) Enjoy mother's day and this great spring weather (at least where we are!) And now I've had about another week to reflect on it all. I'm looking for the peaceable solution that Sheila expressed hope of finding. ========================================== Jeff Passe on 4/23/08 -- > >As much as I enjoy Chris and Meredith's music, I didn't join > >this group to hear about them. I understand that there's more > >and more overlap between the Kennedys and their various > >band-members, but unless they or anyone else is performing > >WITH the Kennedys, it would be better to post it elsewhere. > > > >Perhaps there's enough interest to start a separate listserv. > > > >Sorry to be a stick-in-the-mud, but these crossposts are > >becoming annoying. > ========================================== This was a weighty objection, concerning off-topic posts and cross-posting, and it seems that I was the only one who distinctly disagreed with this in the discussions that followed. Clearly my philosophy of the Jangle-Poets -- which I unequivocally identify with the Kennedys song "Life Is Large" vs its evil-twin parody "Life Is Small" -- was voted down by a combination of the nays and the lack of support my own expressed view received. I'm willing to accommodate the Jangle-Poets in this matter, and I'm still mulling my options. This is one step, I hope, to achieving that peaceful resolution. ======================================== Sheila (excerpted from a much longer post) on 4/26/08 -- > >I think that a huge part of the problem is the sheer bandwidth of > >some of these posts. > ========================================= This was a weighty objection too, concerning the length of my posts. And the weight was amplified by its coming from the list administrator! A separate but related question concerns whether many of my Kennedys-only posts also run afoul of this objection of length. I've posted in this grandiose fashion for years. I suppose there are any number of ways this could be addressed. One of those ways, I imagine, would be to restrict the depth of Kennedys content that I post to the Jangle-Poets, in the interest of cutting the bandwidth. I'm not altogether keen about that option, though. "Keen" wouldn't be the word I'd use to express how I feel about that! Maybe my advocacy for C&M and Hungrytown on J-P has been deemed intolerable and counterproductive, but "Bruce on the Kennedys" is something that J-P could still tolerate, put up with, or generally countenance as "not counterproductive to J-P"? ========================================= Finally, Bernadette on 5/4/08 -- > >I just deleted my inbox to jan 12th. That was 2,872 e-mails. And > >1,432 were from you. If i can make sure i'm not drunk the first time > >i meet sheila's kids, or when cady or c + m or p+k come to visit, > >you can remind yourself that as jangle poets, we expect a low > >volume list. > ========================================== This objection about the sheer number of my posts really jangled my nerves. I'd never seen it so boldly expressed, that J-P expect a low volume list, and no one dissented from this. It might be that for me to fully comply with this objection and post considerably less to J-P, Kennedys content shared with the list might necessarily have to be restricted. Point in fact, I go to a lot of Kennedys shows. I could, I suppose, just not report on all of them, or keep the reporting to a bare minimum for the sake of a desired "low-volume list" effect. But do J-P really want such a "Life Is Small" solution? I know what I want -- to be left at peace to more or less be myself. "Be yourself and stand your ground, don't let nobody turn you round, Life Is Large!" And all that. Standing my ground is apparently no longer a good option here, as the "Life Is Large" ethos continues to be whittled away and so diminished for me. So how far do I let J-P "turn me round"? I'm afraid the remedy may yet prove worse than the disease.
