I don't know whose idea it was, in doing it. But it was introduced ITO its having been a song with special meaning to all 4 of them, to Pete, Maura, Nerissa, and Katryna, at one point or another. AFAIK, neither TN or TK had done it before. Then later in the show, maybe at the very end, I think it was Pete who wished the audience "better things" in the future. I wish I could give a good description of how TN and TK did the song, who did what, but I really can't say I remember. I'm kind of drawing a blank. The whole weekend was incredibly momentous for me -- all 7 Strangelings at Marblehead Friday, followed by the 4 Kennieldys at Lexington Saturday night. "Most days are not like this, you understand..." I'm reporting a little late on these shows, not because there was so little to report, but because it seemed there was so much. It was really overwhelming for me, and now it's difficult to get a handle on it. "It's All Too Much." (Beatles) More to follow. And I had just said elsewhere that NN seems to have borrowed (if she's a good artist) or stolen (if she's a great artist) the verse section from Dar's "Mercy of the Fallen" for the Nields song "The Soldier at Your Door." "Good artists borrow, great artists steal." What Nerissa calls "stealing" -- Katryna calls "thievery" -- (they almost named Sister Holler "Highway Robbery") -- while Pete usually calls this the "folk process." :-) At any rate, I still wonder if it was TK who instigated the rendition of "Better Things," on account of their new album "Better Dreams."
