There was a lot of food served starting at 7PM, followed by a Hungrytown set at 8PM, with birthday cake served after. It was a house concert buzzing with excitement, as the Hall parents had packed the room with family members and longtime family friends. Hungrytown are Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson of the Strangelings. I managed to rustle up a rare posse of both Peter and Stephen (home on break from college), and Chris Thompson Lively and her husband were also in the house. Completely coincidentally, Stephen discovered that his best friend at college was a close personal friend of many people at the party, although none of them had met Stephen before. Hello Stranger Rose or the Briar (with Bruce Palmatier) One Morning in May If I Needed You Going North On the Other Side (with Bruce Palmatier) Solid Ground Every Day Rosemary Lane Come Around Hungrytown Road (with Bruce Palmatier) Hard Way to Learn (encore) Lucille Lucille This was my first time singing bass on "Hungrytown Road," wanting to follow in the footsteps of Laura Molinelli after she beautifully lent a high soprano harmony on that same song at Newfane VT 12/14/07. Several audience singalongs also added fun to an already fun evening. After the show, people asked me how I knew R&K, and I explained that I was a fan of folk music who had first started following the Nields in 1995, leading me to the Kennedys, who later formed the Strangelings, hence to R&K. - -- 8/6/94 - my first time seeing TN at Newport Folk Festival - -- 5/9/96 - my first time seeing TK with TN at the Bottom Line - -- 6/25/05 - "birth of the Strangelings" when C&M Thompson played "A Bend in the River" opening for TK at Lancaster Fireworks Show - -- 1/12/07 - first Strangelings show at PACE, TK with C&M - -- 5/25/07 - first Strangelings show with R&K at Guthrie Center, Great Barrington Hungrytown next embarks for a 2-month stint in FL and the South, including the South Florida Folk Festival, touring for their new self-titled CD.
