It is a co-bill with the wonderful trio Red Molly. They are not just sharing the bill but they are also sharing the stage. They have prepared songs to perform together; Yes another folk supergroup. The show is at Irvington Town Hall in Irivington NY. You can get information on the show and buy tickets at the Mainstage Entertainment Webpage. Irvington Town Hall is a beautiful middle sized venue holding about 400 people. Its design is based on Ford's Theater in Washington. Don't worry I'm pretty sure that John Wilkes Booth won't be at the show. The acoustics are great and the ambiance is elegant. If you aren't familiar with Red Molly you should be. They were one of the winners of the 2006 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase and returned this year in the Most Wanted Showcase along with Pat Wictor and Ellis. The three of them made up the Falcon Ridge Preview Tour. Their music is neo-trad. Think along the lines of Gillian Welsh, Crooked Still, and the Mammals but with more of a bluegrass/country feel. They play traditional songs and original songs that sound traditional. They covers songs by Nanci Griffith, Hank Williams, Gillian Welsh and others. Their stage presence reminds me quite a bit of Pete and Maura. You always get the feel that you are just hanging out with some people that really enjoy each other's company and enjoy your company too. You can get a feel of what the show is going to be like on November 18. The Kennedys and Red Molly are going to be John Platt's guests on City Folk Saturday Morning. You can listen on WFUV-FM 90.7 in the New York Area or WFUV.org . Their segment should be on shortly after 10 AM. If you miss it, it will be available on the WFUV archives for about two weeks afterwards. I'll link to that when it becomes available. I had the good fortune to be there for the taping. I guarantee you'll love it. Haven't you always wanted to hear what Maddy Groves sounds like with a Dobro? I hope it doesn't spoil things to say that it sounds great. Here are some pictures I took at the session. My suspicion was confirmed that the Hawaiian song P&M spun that day was indeed "Rain Kilikilihune." I hadn't heard the tape in years. When I first heard that radio broadcast over 4 years ago, I couldn't have imagined (then) that P&M would later record this same song as the Stringbusters! That 5/16/03 radio broadcast was the same day TK played Peeptoad Coffeehouse in North Foster RI, a show where they sang "Run Red Lights" with the word switch, "Is a Peeptoad waterproof?" instead of "Is a bullfrog waterproof?" :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Nov 2007 17:58:22 EST From: Rozettj@aol.com Subject: [JP] falcon ridge bb as i mentioned before, the falcon ridge web site now has a link to an FR bulletin board. some nields nook people have already signed on. there is a lively discussion about who should be invited (or not invited to FR0 - especially lively in regard to which acts should NOT be there every year. EFO and The Nields are taking some hits (and also have lots of defenders). So chime in. also, the major fan campsites have added - under camping and lodging - their own threads - camp dar, happytown, the budgiedome, camp edhead. i have added a gfp/dharma cafe thread. tj Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Nov 2007 23:18:10 EST From: Nieldsforever@aol.com Subject: [JP] Strangelings 11/9/07 Stow MA Barring the mainstage at FRFF, this was the best attended Strangelings show to date, and the most enthusiastic Strangelings crowd so far. The lineup for this show was Maura Kennedy (vocals, guitar, glockenspiel, percussion), Pete Kennedy (electric sitar, vocals, percussion), Chris Thompson (vocals, guitar), Rebecca Hall (vocals, guitar), Ken Anderson (bass guitar, percussion, vocals), and Eric Lee (fiddle). There were two "Mystery Guest Strangelings" on one song, namely Annalise and Jojo on the Serbo-Croat song, "Savila Se Bela Losa Benova," sung a cappella in 2-part harmony. Another highlight of the show was the debut of a fiddle and drum duet by Eric Lee and Ken Anderson, the reels "Toss the Feathers" and "Morning Dew Grass," with the other Strangelings watching the two of them and dancing along to the music. I hope the Strangelings incorporate something like this into their shows from now on, because frankly, Eric Lee is just a terrific fiddler. When the band was being introduced at one point during the show, Eric was introduced as the senior member of the Strangelings -- i.e. a senior in high school! It occurred to me then that Eric, as good as he is, will only get better, being about the same age as my son Stephen! Nuah Harvest Moon Tanglewood Tree Hard Way to Learn Johnny Come Down to Hilo Wildest Sea Savila Se Bela Losa Venova (Annalise & Jojo) Season of the Witch Sculptor's Song A-Soalin' Matty Groves Sirens Nuah reprise Wake Up Children Didn't It Rain Man of Poor Fortune Wayfaring Stranger Reels: Toss the Feathers / Morning Dew Grass (Eric & Ken) Scarborough Fair Anna & the Magic Gown White Bird The Coo Coo (Eric playing fiddle behind the back) Wall of Death (first encore) Stand (second encore) This appears to have been the Strangelings' debut of the Richard Thompson song "Wall of Death" which TK so often do as a duo. Rebecca Hall sang the RT lead vocal, which was really different! Maura sang the Linda Thompson harmony vocal part, as she always does. And what a terrific "Stand," with the whole audience on its feet, many of them holding hands, arms held aloft and swaying in time to the beat! It was really like a revival meeting *at* New Revival Coffeehouse. An electric atmosphere of sheer excitement. Don't miss the chance to see the Strangelings, if you get the chance! They do not just perform separately but also do a few songs together. This is in preparation for the show they are doing together in Irvington on 11/30. But, I am back now, with Niamh Dekate, a new Kennedys fan, on my lap, asleep (she's still on Ethiopian time), and things are getting through now. So sorry for the delay; had I realized that the Internet in Ethiopia was going to be so problematic, I would have made arrangements for a list-sitter. :) Best, Sheila Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 20:47:57 EST From: Rozettj@aol.com Subject: Re: [JP] I'm back that should be "i'm b-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a--c-k!" tj Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V9 #105 **********************************
