For the most part, this meant that Pete got to introduce the musicians and comment on the songs. Here is what was played at the Bob Dylan Workshop to the best of my recollection, with the caveat that I'm on less certain ground here than in the case of the Beatles Workshop, owing to my knowing the Beatles material far better than the Dylan. You Ain't Going Nowhere -- Strangelings Wagon Wheel -- Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers Tomorrow Is a Long Time -- Dan Navarro w/ Nerissa Nields Just Like a Woman -- Gandalf Murphy w/ Strangelings, Nerissa It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry -- Jason Spooner Long Ago, Far Away -- Strangelings Like a Rolling Stone -- Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers The Times They Are a-Changin' -- Nerissa & Katryna Nields w/ Strangelings, Joziah harmonica She Belongs to Me -- Dan Navarro w/ special FRFF verse by Pete Kennedy Subterranean Homesick Blues -- Gandalf Murphy Girl of the North Country -- Jason Spooner All Along the Watchtower -- Strangelings, Pete lead vocal w/ Sharkey lead guitar Tangled Up in Blue -- Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers Knockin' on Heaven's Door (incorporating the Eagles "Already Gone") -- Dan Navarro w/ others including Chris Thompson on guitar Blowin' in the Wind -- Chris Thompson lead vocal w/ others Mr. Tambourine Man -- tutti Apparently "Wagon Wheel" as done by Stephen Kellogg is an unreleased Dylan track. With the possible exception of SK who forgot the words during "Like a Rolling Stone" (like anyone would ever forget lyrics to a Bob Dylan song! :-) -- I thought all of the performances were wonderful. What a great workshop this continues to be, every year at FRFF! :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 19:57:14 EDT From: Nieldsforever@aol.com Subject: [JP] FRFF Saturday Family Stage 2:30 The Snacks Apparently Maura experienced dizziness and may have even fainted sometime between the Bob Dylan Workshop and the Snacks' Family Stage set on Saturday. Dehydration? She later said she wore too many socks because her boots were a bit too big. At any rate, as the start of the Snacks' set was delayed for this reason, 3/5 of the Guthrie Center Strangelings (Chris, Rebecca, Ken) did an impromptu opening song until such time as P&M would be ready to rock 'n' roll. Chris, Rebecca, Ken's opening song: This Land Is Your Land Then P&M arrived and the Snacks launched into their first of two FRFF Family Stage sets, the second one being the next day. Before I begin though, it's essential to know that P&M were accompanied and helped in the goings on, such as singing, dancing, shaking hands, and conga line participation, by the same 3/5 Strangelings who opened for them with the song "This Land Is Your Land." So the Snacks at FRFF, in every way except for the different repertoire, were essentially the Strangelings (minus Cheryl Prashker and Eric Lee). The Snacks set: Yay For Yay Shakin' Hands Laughin' in Rhythm Stay Away From That Skunk Air Guitar Love Train When the Saints Go Marching In Twist & Shout I've loved what P&M do on the Family Stage in previous years at FRFF, and this year, with a whole slew of new songs, a new band name the Snacks, and 3 happy helpers in Chris, Rebecca, and Ken, the Family Stage set was more fun than ever! :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 20:53:51 EDT From: Nieldsforever@aol.com Subject: [JP] FRFF Saturday "Just Gimme Some Truth" Workshop It would be an understatement to say that the workshop entitled "Just Gimme Some Truth" was much a blur to me, since I slept through a good portion of it. Peter helped write down who was playing, since I had been up till 3AM at the GFP and then up before sunrise at 5AM to put the tarp down for a front row seat at the mainstage for a huge Saturday night that included Dar, Gandalf Murphy, and the Strangelings. So not only do I not know what songs each artist played -- I haven't the foggiest what the workshop was even about -- "Just Gimme Some Truth"? :-) Truth to tell, this was the 3rd of 4 workshops at the festival where either the Strangelings or P&M hosted. Tracy & Jim Mary Gauthier Strangelings "Season of the Witch" Richard Shindell Lucy Kaplansky Stephen Kellogg Terry Kitchen Annie Wenz Tracy & Jim Mary Gauthier Strangelings "Matty Groves" I think Richard, Lucy, Stephen, Terry, and Annie played second songs after the Strangelings' second one. But it's just not registering on my Richter scale. "Sleep optional"! :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V9 #77 *********************************
