["Frank H] [JP] The Kennedys' E-Newsletter Message ["The Kennedys' E-Newsletter" Subject: [JP] You Ain't Goin' Nowhere - another great Byrds/Dylan cover! As soon as I saw the Kennedys e-mail newsletter today I clicked the link to the iTunes store and checked out the latest addition to the Kennedys' catalog, a terrific cover of You Ain't Goin' Nowhere, from a new release called The Byrds Dylan Connection. After sampling the other tracks, I bought the whole digital album and what a tasty set of tracks it is! Unlike some other Byrds tribute collections that I have heard, all of these artists honor the original Byrds versions, while putting their own distinctive imprint on them. I certainly recommend the whole album, and The Kennedys' track is a must! Nice work, Pete & Maura! From the far-flung Bronx, and Long Island, from the verdant meadowlands of Jersey, and the misty Poconos they came, each one clutching a ticket and a flagon of Poland Spring. Some had come in sturdy Priuses, counting their miles per gallon like a pilgrim's holy beads. Others trekked overland from Barre and Great Barrington, and some came in Scion gypsy wagons, down from the dreamlike Berkshires, and up the lonely Taconic Trail. All converged on a single spot; the ancient mound at Hillsdale, site of clan gatherings since the Druids first walked this sacred ground, and as midnight was struck on the massive brass gong, all eyes and ears turned to the mainstage. Up on the hillside, Oberon, king of the fairy kingdom, was giving orders to Puck, his right-hand elf, and mischievous mirthmaker of mayhem. "During the next act, I want security to be tight. Do you hear me?" Puck, intent on his Gameboy, gave a start. "Of course, master." "Spotted snakes with double tongues, and thorny hedgehogs, be not seen. You got that?" Puck yawned. "Of course, your excellency." "Not a single thorny hedgehog! Do you understand me?!" Puck jumped to his pointy feet, and saluted. "No problemo." Oberon settled back against his tree trunk, lit his briar pipe, and began to wax rhapsodic about his first Falcon Ridge. "I was with Hercules and Cadmus once, when Gorka, Larkin and Greg Brown did their first 'in-the-round'." He puffed on his pipe. "Never did I hear so musical a discord, such sweet thunder. But tonight..." He turned to gaze intently at his Elven vassal. "Tonight is the Falcon Ridge debut of The Strangelings." Puck removed one earbud. "The who?" Oberon rose to his full height of four feet, and roared, as loud as an elf can roar. "The Strangelings! You jackanape! You unbaked and doughy youth, despiser of good manners, saucy, peevish, prating gnat! You fusty Plebeian, rustic mountaineer, squire of low degree!" Oberon paused. He had run clean out of insults. He lowered his voice. "The Strangelings are the three sirens that Odysseus heard, the three sisters who terrified Lord Macbeth, the triplets-in-voice who cast a spell over all who hear them. They're good on guitar, too." Puck was paying attention now. "Your grace, I will see to their welfare. They will have the bottled fruit of the finest springs in Maine, and even the precious vitamin water with electrolytes, should they demand it". "Excellent, my minion. Now, begone! And see to it that those guitars stay in tune, for we are to be treated not only to entertainment, but, by my reckoning, enchantment as well. Off, tardy varlet!" As Puck disappeared in a cloud of gold-dust, Oberon turned to the patron on the next blanket, a software engineer from Framingham. "Once I sat upon a promontory, and heard the Strangelings sing "Season of the Witch," uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath, that the rude sea grew civil at their song, and certain stars shot madly from their spheres, to hear the three maid's music." "Yeah," the engineer agreed, "I'm looking forward to them, too, and the CD is coming out today, right here at the festival! By the way, have you seen a fluorescent orange fanny-pack? I need to check email on my Blackberry." Oberon scowled, settled back against his tree, and tamped down his East India blend. "Lord," he said to no one in particular, "what fools these mortals be! But lo, the moon is risen, and the three apparitions have finished soundchecking. Puck, work your strong magick, and let the Strangelings commence!" ******************************************************************************************* 2) Tour Calendar for July 2007 Please check our website: http://www.KennedysMusic.com, or Musi-cal calendars for changes.
