The sparks flew up and bounced off the cold currents rolling down from Greenland, raining like fallen stars on the teeming waters of Stellwagon Bank, where phosphorescent creatures answered in waves of light, in a code that only the whales could read. In a dark, underground cave, beneath the green fields of John Harvards land, a motley crew was assembled. Paul Revere polished the pewter, for tonight there would be feasting, and in the corner, old man Harvard himself intoned from a dusty volume of Latin grammar. The sages of all ages had convened in this dark den, once the hideous lair of the foul, thousand-clawed Grendel, and later the perilous chapel of the Green Knight. It was here, so say whispered legends, that Uther Pendragon, sire of Arthur, sleeps his dreamless sleep, kept alive by drops from the sacred cup of Joseph of Arimathea. But what was it that brought the sages of all ages and places, to this morbid spot? What dire convention, what divine commission could gather Merlin, Prospero, Lao-Tzu, the two-headed humanoids of C581, and sages of the future, as yet unknown to man? What could draw Taliesin, Gwion Bach, and even the evil hag, Cerridwyn, to sit down at a feast of roast beast in this nether-world of arcane celebration? Prospero threw down ten cards, then cut the deck and drew the Empress. He raised the card high above his head, and the crowd grew silent. In the rafters, the fauns, the brownies, and the hobgoblins ceased their giggling. Merlin stamped his mighty staff on the stone floor, and spoke in a voice that thundered across Boston Harbor: Gimme an S! The multitude roared in response, S! Gimme a T! T! Thus it went on, this otherworldly incantation, until the final S died away. Merlins eyes flashed fire. Whats that spell? The elves, the hobbits, the wizards and the gnomes alike roared as one: STRANGELINGS! Merlin roared back, I CANT HEAR YOU! STRANGELINGS!!! I CANT HEAR YOU!!!! STRANGELINGS!!!!!!!!! At that, the earth cracked open and fire rose up from a great crevasse. Lord Macbeth shrank back in terror. He knew this sight all too well. Three sisters, unsurpassed in beauty, the destroyers of Troy, the heartbreakers of Marc Antony, the weavers of past, present and future, singing a song that threw the assembled sages into a stupefied trance. Enchanted, the wizards, some of whom were present when the pyramids were built, listened in rapt awe. The beauty of the sisters, and their mellifluous song, was offset only by the frightening countenance of the twisted half-monster, Pete, brother to Caliban, long-banished from the Shire. He hunched over his electric sitar in a ghastly embrace. The song went on, outside of space and time; ancient airs from the Hebrides, songs of the wiley shape-shifter Dave Carter, and original lyrics from the canyons of Kubla Khan. As the rosy fingers of dawn appeared, the assembled illuminati gathered in line to pay tribute to The Strangelings, each one clutching a magic staff in one hand, and a MasterCard in the other. For yea, the live show was now available on DVD. And thus, as the fires of Beltane roared above Cambridge Common, The Strangelings played their debut gig at Club Passim. Thus spoke the yurt-dwelling Mongolian shaman, as she stared into her crystal ball, entranced by a vision of the future, specifically this Wednesday, May 2nd! ******************************** 2) Tour Calendar for May 2007 Please check our newly re-vamped website, http://www.KennedysMusic.com, or Musi-cal calendars for changes.
