Yesterday I had the opportunity to see Chris & Meredith Thompson do their "Sound Science" program under the auspices of the Cambridge Science Festival and as part of the Culture for Kids series, in an afternoon show for mostly moms and their kids at Club Passim. Besides doing all different songs from those I'm used to hearing, C&M demonstrated to the kids how musical instruments work with a strong emphasis on audience participation, briefly summarizing all of the following subjects -- sound waves, pitch frequency, percussion, stringed instruments, and wind instruments. The all-original songs were worked into the framework of this Sound Science presentation -- Air is Everywhere You've Got to Make a Vibration Frequency Means How Many Percussion Discussion Wonderful Things About Strings No Matter How You Twist It, It's Still a Horn Recap Rap Full of surprises! The Thompson twins did absolutely none of these when they played the Family Stage at FRFF last year, doing many other songs they rarely play instead. C&M join TK next week at Passim in yet another one of their musical reincarnations -- as the Strangelings!
