It seems that the powers that be at Falcon Ridge have not yet booked the The Kennedys for what would be the 2nd year in a row. I know that, in the past, they have been there supporting the festival and their friends, even if not on the official bill, but I also know that by just "being there", they are giving up paying gigs for an entire weekend, and it seems a shame that they can't have the best of both worlds at least every other year! I know that many feel that they just add a certain je ne se quois to the festival. They are able to rally the mainstage hillside AND the workshop stage like few others can, getting everyone involved, playing and jamming together. MUCH more fun than just everyone sitting in a line and taking turns at the mike. My husband even feels that TK shine most at Falcon Ridge. I know that I would find it difficult to consider a Falcon Ridge without Pete and Maura in any capacity, but also know that these guys need to pay the bills and may have to decide between a paying gig and FR, and I worry that the folks at Falcon Ridge may be unintentionally taking advantage of the situation by just assuming that they'll be there anyway. Heck, free Kennedys? Who wouldn't want that? :) The line-up isn't yet complete, so anyone who feels strongly about this can write Anne Saunders at anne@falconridgefolk.com and ask that Falcon Ridge consider booking them. Hoping to make it there this year myself, Sheila ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. I've said before that TK embody the spirit of the festival better than anyone else I know, and it's never FR for me without TK. I've already played out my cards with Anne, requesting the Kennedys with the option to include half a set with the Strangelings. I don't want to wear out my welcome. This would be an opportunity for others of you, though, to do as Sheila says. Frankly, I don't understand how the booking for FR works, it's a mystery to me. Perhaps it's tied to CD sales figures in the merch tent, I don't know. But I do know that TK always bring joy and magic to the festival, and I wish that TK would play the festival every year. If by some chance I were not able to "do" FR as I have been accustomed to doing the past 10 years, I would still make the tremendous effort to see the Strangelings there, even if I had to drive from Boston to Hillsdale and back again that day -- that's how highly I think of TK and Chris & Meredith Thompson. The Strangelings are just plain trippindicular and out of this world. Bruce ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
