After church, the two of us rehearsed with pianist Christine Fahey on two songs for next Sunday, "Out of the Depths" (from Creation and Apocalypse) and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" (from Slaughter of the Innocents), both written by me, long, long ago -- both rarely done -- and now being done for the first time ever as a vocal duo, by the two of us, with piano accompaniment. I wrote a new piano arrangement and 2-part harmony for "Out of the Depths" specially for this collaboration with Chris, and today's rehearsal was the first time this arrangement had ever been played -- oddly enough, on the 20th anniversary, to the day (3/18/87) of the premiere of Creation and Apocalypse, from which "Out of the Depths" derives -- new light from "out of the depths" of the deep dark and dim recesses of the not-too-recent past. Today's run-through for next Sunday (3/25, Frodo's birthday) went even better than I'd hoped -- Chris' soprano voice on the melodies was a dream -- and needless to say, I'm very, very excited! :-) "Most days are not like this, you understand..." :-) Bruce "I Can't Wait" (Nu Shooz) Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Mar 2007 20:35:39 -0400 From: "Kathy Sands-Boehmer" Subject: Re: [JP] Chris Thompson at my church -- 3/18 and 3/25 Very cool. I saw Chris sing with Pete and Maura last night at the New Moon Coffeehouse up in Haverhill. What was even cooler is that Pat Wictor accompanied them on lap guitar on several songs. Maura sang a beautiful new song about the similarities between being born and dying. It was very moving and I had the chance to share the concept in the song at MY church service here in Marblehead this morning. Our minister posed the question about sharing our spiritual moments with each other and then we all got the assignment to share with our neighbors during the service...so that's what I cited, as well as being present with my parents and my aunt when they passed. peace Kathy p.s. Go to moveon.org and check to see if there are any PEACE vigils in your town tomorrow---Monday. We're marking the 4th anniversary of this wicked insane war.
