Great costume! Kathy, and everyone who was there... thank you so very much for taking the time to go and protest this unbearable war. I wasn't able to go to DC due to my ailing Mom, but I was there with you in spirit. I can't even put into words how great it was to see vast numbers of people there. Uplifting. Inspiring. That's exactly what our great nation needs right now! ~~~~~~~ No, it's never easy taking pix in a crowd. Years back, I lived in Boston and worked freelance shooting for the Boston Globe. Seemed like they would send me out on all the demonstrations, parades, and other crowd assignments. You have to be very bold... for a full body shot, just corner them and ask them to come and pose for you. Tell the crowd you're shooting for the Media, and most times they'll give you a break and let you get a decent shot without jostling you around And, always take lots and of shots... because invariably you do get jostled and miss a lot of shots. It can be grueling work. I used to sometimes shoot 20 or more rolls of film for each assignment. Such a waste of film, but you had to do that in order to get a few good shots. Now it's a bit easier with the advent of digital cameras... you just go back later and delete every shot that you don't like. But you need to be sure and have a lot of batteries and cards for all those shots. Hope you don't mind me giving you a few pointers. If you want good keepsake photos of an event like that, you have to go in with the same kind of attitude that a pro does when they go into the crowd. Determined to get the good shot.
