On March 17, TK are scheduled to perform at the New Moon Coffeehouse in Haverhill, MA. It's a lovely coffeehouse that attracts a lovely audience, it's a comfortable drive from my home, AND, not far away from it, there is a little storefront restaurant where we can indulge in a nice plate of fried seafood for dinner. Sounds like a perfect evening, doesn't it? ALSO on March 17, Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams is scheduled to appear at the Amazing Things Art Center in Framingham, MA, also not terribly far away. Another group I simply cannot stand to miss, playing at another venue that I like very much and want to support. oh, what to do, what to do! if only I could borrow a Time-Turner and go to both! Or I may be confusing this with another of my various NoVA road trips. My biggest triple play came from seeing The Nields, Dave & Tracy, Dar and the Kennedys all in the same day (my birthday), in 2 different states (to be fair, TN and D&T were both playing at Appel Farm, while Dar & TK were playing in PA, but in 2 separate venues). Then there was my favorite double play...Dar in CT and then beating her up to NoHo for the rest of The Nields at the Iron Horse. Good times, good times. I've been know to just buy tickets for 2 shows, even if there's no way I can make both, especially if I really want to support a venue and/or the artist. If I can't make it, I call the venue to say that I won't be there and they can double sell my seat(s). That way, the venue is supported and, if the artist gets a cut at the door, they get the money too, even if I can't be there. When I do have to make a choice, I try to find out who I might be seeing again the soonest and then decide if I can wait that out for the other act. Love the northeast! Cone Head figures in several legendary multiple show maneuvers. There are far more than 2 but 2 will suffice for the present. One was from 2001, the first time he saw Gandalf Murphy, somewhere in CT like Wilton perhaps, or maybe at Tribes Hill, I don't remember, thanks to his friends whose names escape me right now. That same day he made it to the New Haven Green with literally less than 5 minutes to spare, in the Dar-Nields abbondanza bonanza that was in fact the last Nields Full Band show (excepting them doing the Go-Gos at the Transperformance later that month, I mean). That was amazing and totally the stuff of legend, Cone's dramatic appearance at the very waning of the eleventh hour. "Watch you come out of nowhere..." :-) The other from 2002 concerns my all-time favorite Cone Head weekend, when we camped with the Irregulars at Parvin State Park the weekend of Appel Farm. That was my first full-set Dave & Tracy show, and N&K were at that year's Appel Farm as well. The day before that Saturday slew of appearances, we also saw TK at the Bridgeton Fountain, an outdoor show with no canopy over the performers. It was simply magical when a little light rain started falling during the last song of TK's set (probably "Sirens") and P&M segued seamlessly into the Beatles song "Rain." That was Friday. Saturday, after a full day of music at Appel Farm (including D&T and N&K), Cone insisted on staying to the very end of headliner Jackson Browne's set. Jackson Browne played a long, long set, well over an hour and a half. Then we drove like hell from south Jersey for hours, or for however long it took to reach Bryn Mawr where TK were playing at the Point, my first time ever at that venue. We were late for TK's show, but P&M had actually waited to start the show so we didn't miss anything. Those were happier days! >When I do have to make a choice, I try to find out who I might be seeing again the soonest and then decide >if I can wait that out for the other act. And that's partly my criterion too. The question that started this particular discussion concerned a direct conflict between Gandalf Murphy in Framingham and TK in Haverhill. For geographical reasons, I'm never able to see Gandalf as much as I'd like, whereas TK now live in NoHo and have always played a lot more MA shows than the Slambovians. But there are other criteria for me too, too many to go into. It's just always tough for me when I have one of these conflicts. My worst-ever conflict was Cadence Carroll's CD release party with TK in the house at Good Folk Coffeehouse in Rowayton, the same night as TN at the Iron Horse. One of my "other criteria" kicked in for me, to my everlasting regret -- I *never* miss TN at the Iron Horse, from 2/25/95 to the present, I've never missed a show by the Nields at the IH. But I really would've rather been there with Cady, and TK, and you, and Cone, and the Derrys, at Good Folk. That was my worst-ever worst case scenario. Incidentally, another of my "other criteria" kicks in tomorrow, rendering my attendance at N&K's Sounding Board show an impossibility. I'm helping Chris & Meredith Thompson with load in and break down tomorrow, ironically at the same Good Folk Coffeehouse in Rowayton where Cadence played her CD release show, that other time I had an irreconcilable conflict. There just aren't very many C&M shows left on their calendar before Meredith goes on sabbatical for who knows how long. I always follow my heart to decide the day in acute conflicts like these. In the case of the Nields at the IH VS Cadence's CD release, my heart was just torn in two. Both TK and the Slambovians "rock the Head" and put on fantastic, 2-set shows. And, Haverhill is really pretty far from Framingham. So one might think, "Double your pleasure, double your fun" by trying to take in parts of both, but it might be "Halve your pleasure, halve your fun," by cutting oneself out of *two* great complete shows. "Two halves are better than one" might make more sense! Commit "all the way," not just "halfway"! That's been my motto anyway, with TN and TK! :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2007 21:20:22 EST From: Nieldsforever@aol.com Subject: Re: [JP] Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" In a message dated 1/25/2007 6:30:29 PM Eastern Standard Time, ksbeditor@gmail.com writes: >Are any Kennedy fans congregating on the National Mall on Saturday as Pete >encouraged us to do so during the Joyful Noise show a couple weeks ago?
