And this week I have been busy with work, and had to travel out of town unexpectedly. In fact that business trip prevented me from seeing The Kennedys last night in Madison, IN as I had planned. Luckily a friend of mine was able to go, and he sent me "Chimes of Freedom" via cell phone! At the Carrick show, in addition to your list, they played Half A Million Miles Minor Swing (on the ukulele) Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (Pete solo guitar) He Ain't Got Rhythm - a Billie Holliday song they had recently learned. They said this was their first public performance of it. Rhapsody in Blue Not Fade Away During the Get It Right/What's Going On medley, Pete gave a nice nod to WGO's origination in Detroit. As in the last couple of times I have seen them do this medley, as they segue into River of Fallen Stars, Pete gives an intro about their Ireland tour with Nanci Griffith when they wrote their first batch of songs that would comprise their first album. The Carrick's have the most "permanent" set up I have yet seen for a house concert, complete with colored stage lights, stacks of speakers, and a wall covered with various stringed instruments. Any music fans in the Detroit/SE Michigan area are well advised to keep an eye out for future Carrick shows. Plus, they had the largest pizzas I have ever seen! I swear they were 36" in diameter!!! And, you may be able to catch a web stream of the show on A3Radio.com. For me, it was a great wrap-up to seeing three Kennedys shows in just over a week. And Theresa, what a perfect way to introduce your young daughter to live music! May she (and we) still be going to Kennedys shows when she reaches her teenage years!
