We've been frequent visitors to Northampton for years, since it's one of the hubs of the touring circuit, and a sort of a crossroads for a lot of creative types-kind of like the "Star Wars Cantina," with vanilla lattes. Maura's first road trip was there, to see Richard Thompson, and Pete once got a guitar lesson from Doc Watson in the basement of the Iron Horse. We've passed some fun hours in that basement, chatting and jamming with Gillian and David, Dar, and of course the full constellation of Nields. The Berkshires seem dreamlike, bopping back and forth across the New England Thruway, in the land where acoustic gigs are as plentiful as master's degrees. Riding the train down to NYC every week to broadcast the Dharma CafC), we'll have time to reflect on the dense layers of culture whizzing by-the irony of "Co-op City" covering the ruins of "Freedomland," Pete's boyhood amusement park haunt, and the double irony of Freedomland covering ancient Native burial grounds-it's all grist for the songwriting mill. And back in New England, irony will give way to the simple pleasures of "life in the college town lane"-lots of music, lots of upcoming projects, and lots and lots of gigs. We'll see you on the Thruway; we'll be the ones in the covered wagonb& ******************************************* 2) Kennedys' May tour schedule: Friday, May 5, 2006 - The Folkus Project Presents The Kennedys at the May Memorial UU Church, 3800 East Genesee St., Syracuse, NY.
