It is fairly rare these days to see such an in-depth and detailed Kennedys review on the Nields list. Bruce =================================================== From: April Baggins To: nields-nook Subject: The Kennedys on Cape Cod Brad, myself & many others fully enjoyed the packed Kennedys show at the 1st Encounter Coffeehouse last night. Brad & I were fortunate enough to get the seats we always get in the 1st row even though we were not 1st in line this time. As Bruce described in his review of the recent Fall river show...the stage was full of assorted stringed instruments, all of which were played except the beautiful Rickenbocker. I really enjoyed the electric sitar which sounded fascinating as well as the electric Uke. They played 2 sets, 11 songs each and I have a good feeling that they made a lot of new fans. Everybody was blown away and after the first song, (Life Is Large) I think Pete & Maura were a bit blown away by the loud thunderous applause :-) At the very beginning Pete announced, "Welcome to our first outermost gig" I thought that was cute. Set 1 1. Life Is Large 2. Didn't It Rain 3. Half A Million Miles 4. Namaste 5. 9th Street Billy 6. Nuah (I wrote Nuah's Arc...not sure if that's correct) *w/electric sitar 7. Sheerwater (Instrumental) 8. Chimes Of Freedom 9. EZ People (requested by our friend's daughter Solei (sp?) Maura stated that she is as big a nields fan as anyone :-) 10. Midnight Ghost 11. Stand Set 2 1. Wall Of Death 2. Poem written by an Iraqi woman during the 1st gulf war into 3. How will I Ever be simple Again 4. Dharma Cafe 5. River Of Fallen Stars 6. Bach's Ode To joy (Sitar solo) 7. Sirens into 8. 8 Miles High into 9. Uke Solo (probably Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue, but I'm not sure...all I know was that it was amazing) 10. Not Fade Away (request) Encore: 8 Days A Week (everyone standing, dancing & singing along) I forget what song Pete played his Mandoguitar on, but afterwards when he started to place it down he said, "I'd like to tell you about what kind of instrument this is, but I don't know" to which the crowd roared with laughter. I was so happy to see The Kennedys right up the road in Eastham, it was a real treat for everone there. They donated their entire cd catalog to our local radio station WOMR, which I am sure will get lots of airplay. Maura mentioned to me that they will be moving to Northampton, and it sounds like they'll be doing more MA gigs :-) She also informed me though that they will not be at FRFF this summer :-( because they were not asked back (not that that has stopped them before). She did say that they went to check out the new farm and that it's great/beautiful... lots of trees in the camping areas. I enjoyed giving Maura photos of them from various past FRFFs and looking through them with her, it was funny when our friends daughter pointed to a particular photo and asked Maura, "What song were you playing there?" and Maura really made an honest attempt at figuring it out, based on the chords being played, capo position, etc... Big Fun 4 All :-) ~ April Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V8 #18 *********************************
