Subject: [JP] Remembering John Lennon

John Lennon's murder in 1980 was one of the greatest shocks of my life,
and 
like the Kennedy assassination of '63 and the attack of the WTC in '01,
I 
remember the shock well.  I was too young to understand the killing of
JFK,  and
don't now remember exactly where I was when I first found out that that
had 
happened.  But I remember very well exactly where and when I first found 
out
about the WTC, and the same goes for John Lennon's death 25 years ago 
yesterday.  I was at a coffeeshop across the street from Northwestern 
University in
Evanston IL when I first found out.

As I think about John Lennon's legacy and influence now, ISTM he was one
of 
the outstanding embodiments of "living life large" in my lifetime, as in
TK 
motto "Life Is Large."  I loved his music, of course -- few artists have 
influenced me more deeply.  And even when I didn't agree with everything
he  said
or stood for, I admired him for his courage, his passion for life, and
his 
integrity.  He was human after all, like any of us, but he made a mark
on  the
age in which we live like few others have done.

Even beside the media saturation of Lennon and Beatles tunes on the
radio 
yesterday, Stephen and I honored John's memory by playing the Beatles'
Rubber 
Soul, which has made such a huge impact on so many of us.

Look at the cover photo of Rubber Soul!  ISTM that John Lennon stands 
front
and center, looking straight at the camera, looking straight at all of
us, 
while George, Ringo, and Paul in that same picture are looking distantly 
somewhere else, giving me the distinct impression that the 3 of them were
John's 
cohorts and that John was at the center.

Rubber Soul, incidentally, also appears in the artwork for TK's album
Angel 
Fire.  I don't think it's my imagination that Rubber Soul occupies the 
central position in that picture, flanked (significantly I think) by
Dylan's 
Highway 61 Revisited and The Byrds' Mr. Tambourine Man.  That's exactly
the  way I
understand TK, as carrying on the traditions of excellence of those 3 
artists.

FWIW, I can't quite make out the other 3 albums in that same picture.  
Maybe
someone in the know can enlighten us.  :-)

Bruce, that photo in the jewel box tray of Angel Fire is one of my
favorite
shots of P&M. (The all-black attire is most becoming!)

One of the three remaining albums (far left in the shot) is Ian &
Sylvia's
"Northern Journey".

The one in the middle (under Rubber Soul) is Gram Parsons' "GP".

I can't identify the one to the far right in the shot.
