["Frank Hartge" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2005 12:59:58 -0500 (GMT-05:00) From: Theresa Marsik Subject: [JP] Marne, MI show Sorry this is so late. I was out of town and have been pretty busy of late, setting a personal concert-going record - in the past 10 days, I've seen Vienna Teng, TK, Dar Williams and Girlyman (twice), and will see John Gorka tonight. One of my friends asked me why I am going to all these concerts, and why I would want to see Dar two days in a row. I told her that I enjoy the artists so much I feel an obligation to support live music. She told me "I understand that, but sometimes it seems like you're doing it single-handedly." Well, so be it. :) But I digress..... Last Thursday, I drove from Ann Arbor to a small town just northwest of Grand Rapids. The concert was at a United Methodist church. I had never been there before, so I wasn't sure what time I should show up. I decided to get there about 30 minutes before the show, which was apparently fairly early. I went into the sanctuary, got a seat and started to read. After a few minutes, a gentleman came up and started talking with me, and told me they had concessions if I was interested. I went to get some cider, and Pete & Maura were just finishing up their meals. I had a nice chat with them, and they told me that they actually walked around the new location for Falcon Ridge, and that it looked like it would be as good if not better than Long Hill Farm. Good News! To the best of my recollection, they played the following. Only the first and last two songs are in order: Life Is Large Rappahanock Half A Million Miles 9th Street Billy Nuah Shearwater Wall of Death Stand Midnight Ghost Bend in the River Fortune Teller Road the Iraqi poem, Celebration How Will I Ever Be Simple Again Chimes of Freedom Can't Kill Hope With A Gun Down Down Down Sirens Life Is Large Encore: Namaste I think I forgot a couple songs. Pete played a couple of Bach pieces, and they played an instrumental medly (but I don't recall which songs were included - it sounded great, though). It was a wonderful evening of music. I got back to my hotel and couldn't fall asleep for a good hour (which is saying something for me!). Maura was playing a small, red Fender acoustic that looked like it was electric. Pete played his red Gretsch, an electric sitar and a new ukelele that he had gotten 2 days prior to the show. As great as the show was, one of my lasting memories is watching a woman, probably in her mid-seventies at least, buying a cd and having Maura sign it. I wasn't close enough to hear what they were saying (and I didn't want to eavesdrop), but the excitement and happiness on the lady's face was special. Of course, that means Pete and Maura will be...well, older. But as the song says, "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!"
