My philosophy about discussion lists like this one, Jangle-Poets I mean, is that people should feel free to express themselves, and shouldn't feel overly constrained by the seeming strait-jacket of "Kennedys content." IMO if you dig TK music and you are here to learn and to share, that is already Kennedys content enough. :-) I also feel that if you really dig TK music, inevitably the discussion will tend to keep coming back to touch base at the reason for this list, namely the Kennedys --- no matter how tangential the subject. :-) That having been said...! :-) It's all music. But there is an interesting groove thing the Kennedys have going for them that could invite comparison to other music "out there," including Yes. Even the name "Yes" seems to be a saying "yes" to life, "yes" to love, "yes" to music or art or poetry or whatever it is that adds life and meaning to whatever it is that floats your boat. :-) The Kennedys, too, are an "affirmative action" employer. :-) Affirmative --- TK's attitude is infectiously positive, a taking life and love and music by the gills and like "Whale Rider," riding that sucker for all she's worth. "Life is Large." 'Nuff said. Action --- TK don't just talk about living the dream. They are exponents of living the dream. Pete & Maura are colonizers of the Dream. The Dreamtime is a living reality, not just something that happened thousands of years ago in the Outback of Australia. You don't need Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine to go there. If you'll pardon the allusion, all you have to do is "Reach out and touch" someone to "make this world a better place." TK know how to do this. They are people of action. If we learn from them, we can maybe become people of action and the colonizers of the dream too. Employers --- The music business needs people to keep the action rolling. There will always be a need for people of vision, for people to put their talents and their money where their mouth is. For people of action and colonists of the dream like TK to keep on doing what they're doing, we need promoters, fans, radio stations, writers, venues, and many other adjuncts to the music biz that help make the music possible by connecting musicians like Pete & Maura with the public, many of whom will be grateful, given the opportunaity to find out about musicians like TK. Philly DJ Ed Sciaky was instrumental in helping to establish Yes in the Philadelphia area. May there be a garland wreath of the highest praise in the Spirit World for all those like him, who not only have the true faith and really believe in the power of music, but who exercise their God-given talents so as to really make a difference in lots of peoples' lives. The music of the group Yes explores peace issues, environmental issues, and the spirituality of Planet Earth. At its best, Yes music uplifts all that is good and beautiful and true about the spirit and about human nature, exploring possibilities and bringing the Dream to life, both by really believing and by the hard grunt work it takes to make the Dream a reality. The Kennedys are a lot like that too. Their passion, their commitment, and their work ethic WRT causes that matter are very inspiring. Many people care deeply about what matters most in life, but somehow the Kennedys have what it takes, like Yes and like DJ Ed Sciaky, to translate the "vision thing" into living form, into the music itself. May there be a garland wreath of the highest praise for the Kennedys as well. We should be mindful of how important and precious the work and the art of TK really is, and grateful --- and if we are willing and able we should somehow try to express this gratutude, not only by helping and encouraging Pete & Maura in everything that they do, but by helping and encouraging other artists as well, and by helping and encouraging one another, not only here on Jangle-poets but in all of our lives. "No man is an island," as they say --- "We all have a Common Bond." I've exhausted my bandwidth allowance for now. If I think of any more specific analogies between Yes songs and those of the Kennedys, I'll be sure to give you all a holler. :-) The important thing as I saw it though, is that Yes have a certain something about their music, an attitude I might say, a kind of vision-questing spirit and positive saying "yes" to life, that reminds me a little of TK.
