I am SO sorry for any cross-postings; I know that some of you are gonna get this message three or four times, and that really sucks. But there are enough bored people on each list individually that I feel like if I send this to one, it's gotta be to all. Ever feel bored, but can't bring yourself to do anything productive? Already read all of your friends' journals (if they're into that sort of thing), been to all of your favorite websites, checked your e-mail three times in twenty minutes? Wish you were at a concert instead of sitting in front of your computer screen? I have the perfect solution: check out www.concertmusings.bravehost.com Basically, I have put together a conglomeration of a bunch of journal entries that I've written over the last two years that focus on music that I've seen live. Some are fairly traditional reviews; most are fairly personal, because I originally wrote them for myself. I would imagine that they might be vaguely interesting if you were actually at some of these shows, to see them through someone else's eyes. Or if you wanted to go, but missed it, you can see what you missed. Or, if nothing else, you can go "Ooh, pretty colors." So yeah. I don't really know why I'm sending out this link, but I put enough time into the page that I feel like someone ought to see it, so here you go. Make of it what you will. That means I'll be playing something from the Nields, guaranteed, about every hour or so (every 15 songs, more or less). To listen, go to http://www.livce365.com/stations/woodsmeister?play I believe first-time listeners do not have to register, but there are so many great folk stations there (Both WUMN and Folk Alley (WKSU) use the service) that you'll want to register and check out the wide variety of stations available. If you want to find out more about the station itself and the artists I play, go to http://www.onlinefolkfestival.com I'm also giving away a copy of Eddi Reader Sings the Songs of Robert Burns this month. Details are at the Online Folk Festival website. They finally came back!! And after a few years of waiting, I finally got to see my first non-Falcon Ridge Kennedys show. It was a Russ and Julie house concert just outside of Los Angeles, a very rainy night, and a lot of fun. They were joined on stage by two local musicians, Freebo and Kenny Edwards, who did some amazing non-rehearsed backups, solos, and jamming (as well as each performing a song of their own). It was also the best lit house concert I've ever been to (with a camera), so I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures I took -- stay tuned. Here's what they played... set 1: 1. life is large 2. get it right 3. -> what's goin' on -> get it right 4. -> river of fallen stars 5. easy people with freebo: 6. didn't it rain 7. when i go 8. anna and the magic gown and kenny edwards: 9. stand set 2: 10. wall of death 11. rappahnnock 12. angels cry 13. can't kill hope with a gun 14. and your bird can sing 15. why, winona, why 16. freebo - before the separation 17. kenny edwards - this time around with freebo and kenny: 18. ashes and sand 19. down down down 20. sirens 21. -> not fade away encore: 22. eight days a week There's probably more I could say, but I didn't want to delay this post any longer because: On Tuesday, they're playing at Kulak's Woodshed, where shows are streamed live from 8-11 pacific time at: http://www.kulakswoodshed.com . I've never been to one of these shows before, but I have watched a few webcasts and they're pretty cool. Unfortunately I'm currently several hundred miles away and won't be able to go, and I probably won't even be able to see the webcast. But you should if you can!!
