I took him for a stroll on the town and we saw a play in midtown that a friend of our wrote/directed/acted in. It was a lovely day/evening to walk around New York City, and was well appreciated, as we're about to embark on one of the longest tours in Kennedys history (Mid-february through the end of May) which will take us away from the big apple for several months, with the exception of a three-day breather at the beginning of March. Anyway, Pete read your birthday greetings and says "Thanks, all you JanglePoets"!! We just posted this on the nields nook, but since we advertise out FR campsite and a TN/TK kind of place (this year we will have a "Dharma Caffe" at the GFP), I thought I'd post here, too: Kevin Sullivan and I have been kicking around an idea for a Spring "Jam for a Canopy" which would provide a setting at Falcon Ridge for our song circle and other activities. We have had a large canopy, provided by Larry, for the past 2 years, which house our kitchen and which has been a gathering place, but it is getting overcrowded as the GFP has grown. Another, even larger, canopy would be great. Here's the idea - we arrange for a jam, with our own talent, Brie for one, maybe Andrea if she can make it, and other nookers, both professional and amateur, and maybe even a few "surprise" guests who are willing to help us out. Perhaps over the Memorial Day weekend, may on the Connecticut shore, with camping nearby. If 50 people came and kicked in $10 apiece, we would have enough for a 20x40 canopy, and it would be a permanent part of our FR campsite. These are all tentative suggestions. How do people feel about this? of course, we'll definitely have brew and mexican-type drinks for those able to enjoy. tj Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2004 16:45:18 -0500 From: Gordon Nash Subject: Re: [JP] Canopy for FR - Jam? You can always come and join us at the Budgiedome. On Thursday night we jam, on Friday there is a prof then and open mic and on Saturday lots of pros come up for short sets. Last year Cadence Carroll played on Saturday. Plus we pretty much jam every morning. . We even have our own website Budgiedome.com. We have a pretty good thing going...lots of performers camp with us and we have our own nook performers too, and lots of artists drop by. We already have a 10x20 canopy and several smaller ones, plus a complete kitchen with tons of food; pumped hot water shower; running water sing; bar tent with bar and bar stools and a blender to make frozen margaritas. thanks but no thanks. tj Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2004 22:08:01 -0500 From: "Rebecca Derry" Subject: Re: [JP] Canopy for FR - Jam? The Budgiedome's song circles have, historically, kicked the GFP's ass. I think that it was two summers ago when I wandered over to the Budgiedome for the first time, and in the two hours or so that I stayed, I sang along to Eddie From Ohio, The Nields (more so than GFP), DVN, Susan Werner, and of course a lot of Moxy Fruvous. And sooo many people sang along. Harmony even. They also have more spontaneous perfect renditions of Green Eggs and Ham (Fruvous style) at 2:00 AM. On the other hand, GFP is a lot less established. Plus, they have copious food, drink, and good company. So if you're not looking for music, I have found GFP a more accepting place to hang out. And maybe the new "Dharma Cafe" will be good; who knows what this year will bring? So my suggestion is to do what I do: have multiple possible places to hang out. If you're in the mood for hearing music, check out Big Orange Tarp, GFP, Budgiedome, Tribes Hill, AND DarCamp (or whatever) until you find something that strikes your fancy. If you're looking for a party, do the same. They're all really not that far from each other, and I've never been turned away anywhere because I "don't belong." ~Rebecca Who is all rambly tonight Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V6 #9 ********************************
