It's a thought-provoking lyric. If people are not automatically defensive and prone to taking offense, here is how these lyrics can be interpreted optimally so that everyone is happy: Muslims: They can be psyched that Allah is included. And they can believe (if they wish) that Islam's belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." Buddhists: They can be psyched that Buddha is included. And they can believe (if they wish) that Buddhism's belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." Jews: They can be psyched that Yahweh is included. And they can believe (if they wish) that Judaism's belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." Christians: They can be psyched that Jesus is included. And they can believe (if they wish) that Christianity's belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." Hindus: They can be psyched that Brahma is included. And they can believe (if they wish) that Hinduism's belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." Zoroastrians, Wiccans, Rastafarians, and other religionists not mentioned in _Stand_: They can believe (if they wish) that *their* belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." People of no particular religion at all: They can believe (if they wish) that *their* belief system is the "one story," and that everyone else's are the "legends." People can generally enjoy the song just as a great song, and (if they wish) as a way to "build bridges" amongst all of us of different beliefs. No one *need* feel threatened by this song. :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V5 #74 *********************************
