"Yeah baby!" It was almost like being in one of those weird dreams where you're in a record store that has every album you've ever been looking for for the past 20 years, and the store clerk has no idea why you're so giddy and excited. Then you wake up from the dream, you're back in the Bleak House, and your dreams are all up in smoke, "only made of flame and air." But last night's gig at the Gray Goose was no dream! It was eerily, almost unbelievably real. I really wish you could have seen it. Here's what's sweet: 1. The Muse at the Gray Goose. This comfortable, attractive club is a "decked hall" that looks like Christmas every day. It has a neat vibe about it that I enjoy every time I go there. 2. Desserts at the Gray Goose. Freshly baked pies and other yummy morsels. Stephen wasn't able to come this time, but he really dug the "buffet style" treats when we saw Gandalf Murphy and TN at the Goose some months ago. Towne Crier eat your heart out! Mm-mm, good. 3. The artwork on _Stand_. No big surprises here! If you liked the _Evolver_ art as much as I did, you'll probably like the album art for _Stand_ too. Being stuck in (on) the 60's can be so much fun! :-) 4. "Dharma Cafe." I'd never heard P&M play this before. It had a happy, bouncy, Kennedy-ish feel to it. 5. "Ashes & Sand." This was the first time I'd heard TK play this one too. One of their darker songs. But I *like* dark. The Dark Side was a big part of what drew me in to TN in the first place. The Dark Side is part of life, and some artists are able to go down deep into their inner being and bring out real diamonds from the mind. I loved "Ashes & Sand" at first hearing, just like I loved "Didn't It Rain" the first time I heard *that*. 6. Pete Kennedy. He wrote out an extensive "behind-the-songs" sheet for distribution at shows (not in the _Stand_ inner sleeve) called "Uses of Myth and Symbol in the Kennedys' "Stand"." Boy is there ever a lot to chew on there! I told Pete they should put it on a web page for more people to see. Far out! :-) 7. Maura Kennedy. Speaking of far out! To paraphrase Tom Waits, "Sharp as a razor and sweet as a prayer." I bought the first copy sold at a show of the new album _Stand_ and got a #1 written on my copy so I'll remember. "Stand": #1! Bruce's copy: #1! Kennedys: #1! :-) 8. Jim Henry. When you see how sweet Jim Henry sings, plays, and tastefully does just what he should and never gets in the way of Tracy, you will want to take him home with you and show him to all of your friends. :-) 9. Tracy. Maybe the sweetest voice I've ever heard, singing some of the sweetest tunes and smartest lyrics known to man (or woman). I'm so glad I got to see Tracy and the Kennedys play together. And FWIW I wish Tracy lived here out east so the East Coast Tracy gigs weren't so few and far between.
