Kennedys Life is Large Didn't It Rain River of Fallen Stars When I Go (w/ Tracy on harmony vocal & fiddle) Easy People Anna & the Magic Gown Orange Blossom medley Stand Sirens (encore) Tracy Grammer (w/ Jim Henry on guitar, slide guitar, mandolin, and vocals) Love, the Magician Crocodile Man Gentle Arms of Eden (Jim Henry on lead vocal) I Go Like the Raven Ordinary Town Power & Glory 236-6132 Winter, When He Goes Shadows of Evangeline Happytown The Mountain (w/ Pete & Maura Kennedy) Gentle Soldier of My Soul (w/ P&M) Hard to Make It (encore) Crimson & Clover (second encore w/ P&M) Tracy explained that she had just driven the 40-hour drive from a festival appearance in Oregon on Sunday (this was a Wednesday night show), and that she was too tired to be nervous. She also said that there were legal issues to be worked out before she could go into the studio to be recording any of the dozens of unrecorded Dave Carter songs that she was working on. Jim Henry is playing some dates here on the East Coast with Tracy, and this Iron Horse gig was sort of his rehearsal and audition, both wrapped into one. I'd say he passed his audition with flying colors. Tracy said she'd Fed Ex'ed him the tunes on the recommendation of people in the know, and Jim said he'd had four days to learn all of the Dave Carter material, including the lead vocal on "Gentle Arms of Eden." Just three words: Jim Henry rocks! I was even more impressed by this than when Nields bass player Dave Chalfant learned all of 10,000 Maniacs' songs on one day's notice to play bass in their gig as a substitute for the AWOL Steve Gustafson on 5/1/98 at The Studio in Pittsfield MA. Cone Head was at that Nields-Maniacs show too --- in fact, that was when Cone Head and I first really "hit it off." This was the day before the 5/2/98 Amherst Nields-Fruvous show. :-) Speaking of "hitting it off," the Kennedys and Tracy Grammer really were really hitting it off too --- it was just so obvious how much love and admiration they had for each other. What a fantastic rendition of "When I Go" by TK and Tracy. What a fantastic rendition of "The Mountain" by Tracy and TK. What a fantastic show, period. TK, who rarely ever get to play at the Iron Horse, got an encore for their opening set, and Tracy got 2 encores and 2 standing ovations. I can't remember ever seeing Pete & Maura more overwhelmed in awe, wonder, and just plain happier. But then, I wasn't there on their wedding day, either. :-) The Kennedys and Tracy Grammer, a true marriage of like-minded souls made in heaven. "What are we for if not for this?"
