I had planned to attend the 5/30 show at Jammin' Java back in February. What I didn't know then was that another favorite artist, Carrie Newcomer, would be playing before the Kennedys. Carrie Newcomer is a wonderful songwriter and her live shows are breathtaking. A short break and then Pete & Maura continued the wonderful evening with a set of old songs, new songs and covers. Pete came around before the show with a pad and pencil. No, he wasn't taking our drink order, but our song order. I had been listening to Evolver on the trip up there, so I requested Never Learn. Near the end of the show I called out for "A Place In Time" which Maura wasn't sure she could do, but tried anyway and pulled it off very nicely. I just don't really have the words to express the emotions I felt that night. When I decided to try and create a listening room series in Richmond The Kennedys were high on my list. I felt honored to bring them to my home city. The last time they played in Richmond was back in 1997, 2 years before I had heard them. Rest assured it won't be another 6 years before they come back. :-) So, here's the setlist, which was much different than the Jammin' Java show.
