We plan on playing songs that have inspired us, as well > as new songs that we're into. Should be fun! > Pete & Maura It *was* fun. They played: "Stories We Could Tell," Everly Brothers "Learning the Game," Buddy Holly "I Was Young When I Left Home," Bob Dylan Prison recording by Alan Lomax of singer CB Banks "I'm Holding On," Dorothy Love-Coates w/ Gospel Harmonettes "Tell That Woman," The Big Three (Willie Dixon) "Half an Acre," Hem "Save It For a Rainy Day," Jayhawks "Rain Killy Killy Hunay," Japanese duo called Petty Buca "Jezebel," Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet The gospel music connection continues to surprise me. I remember being astonished when Pete & Maura pulled out an old gospel song at the Bethlehem Musikfest 2 years ago, too. In my view, the Kennedys channel the love and the joy and the enthusiasm from *everywhere* they find it, whether it be from gospel, bluegrass, blues, jazz, Americana, pop, folk, rock, or wherever. It's *all* folk music, and what TK are doing is all part of the "folk process" of Passing It On. I continue to be psyched myself, when TK pull out a *great* cover like the Johnny Cash one they did. I told the boys P&M could do that one at every show, it was so lively and Kennedy-ish. That's what I've always said about "Happytown" too. Kennedys make these covers by other people become all their own. Completely agreed, especially the title track, with the rolling thunder. In fact, besides "Shearwater" itself, The Kennedys have recorded an extraordinary number of songs dealing with rain (like "Didn't It Rain?", "Right as Rain," "Blackberry Rain," and "Distant Thunder") and rivers (like "Bend in the River," "Crystal River," "Rappahannock," and "River of Fallen Stars"). There are probably others that have slipped my mind. Yay for water. Satyagraha, ~Rebecca Who performed "River of Fallen Stars" two nights ago with a friend with much success PS: And everyone should read _Down_the_River_ by Edward Abbey. Speaking of rivers.
