Hartford, 2/22/02 Forwarded from the Nields Nook. =================================================== Adam did a wonderful job reviewing TN's show Friday night, so I won't go over the same ground. Stephenspongebob, Peter, and I were surprised to see NY Dave at the Nields' Wilde Auditorium show. Like many NY'ers, Dave is carless and had taken the train up to Hartford for the specific purpose of seeing both the Nields and the Kennedys that weekend. Our stars crossed, for that was precisely S, P, and my game plan for the weekend as well. So we spent about 24 hours with the Dave-Man, found him a place to crash for the night, went to the movie "Daredevil" with him, went to both the Olympia and the Gold Roc diner with him, and generally drove him around the Hartford area. Friendship is good. It was interesting seeing the Nields and the Kennedys on back-to-back nights. Stephenspongebob and I did the same thing in October, when both of them played at the Towne Crier on back-to-back nights. It was nice seeing many familiar faces at the Nields' WH show, but sad seeing no familiar faces at all at the Kennedys' WH show. The Nields and the Kennedys are both committed to peace, each in their own way. Nerissa gave a wonderful little inspirational speech before "The Sweetness" about MoveOn, and TK's made it clear that they prefer to let their songs, so brimful of wonder, enthusiasm, beauty, and hope, do the talking for them. The tears were just streaming down my face when TK ended their second set with the title-cut of their next album, "Stand." Sheila once said, when the Nields' "Christmas Carol" first came out, that CC was one of the most beautiful songs she'd ever heard. I agree with Sheila, and I feel the exact same way about "Stand," which IMO is not only an "instant classic," but is already one of the all-time great Kennedys songs. TN's commitment to peace shines through in Nerissa's inspirational speeches; TK's commitment to peace shines through in their songs. In this way, the TN and TK are both similar and different. That is going to be an amazing and herstoric show. At least Adam has confirmed that he will be there too. For anyone who has never seen either the Kennedys or Gandalf Murphy yet, I very highly recommend this show as a wonderful and rare opportunity to see both of them. TK & GM, like TN, are both EZ People. I believe in love, I believe in TN, "I Still Believe In My Friends", and I believe in the Kennedys.
