Don't miss your chance to take the weekend road trip of a lifetime. See the Kennedys at Jammin' Java one night, then at Andy's the next. You'll have at least 4 more chances this year to take advantage of the 2 best performance spaces in the mid-Atlantic. Don't be afraid of that big bridge. :-) There's a lot to pack into this report, so some may want to skip it and look at the pictures http://home.attbi.com/~donsem2/kennedys020103.htm I left rainy Richmond Friday evening listening to Angel Fire on the way up. I thought Letter to Emily sounded just a little like a song from Miss Saigon (This Is The Hour). But, it really doesn't. I get up to Jammin' Java and meet Joanne & Libby at a table up front. Got my coffee of the day and brownie and eventually The Kennedys came onstage. And it was an INCREDIBLE show. JJ is a special space, no doubt, and Pete and Maura are certainly energized when playing there. Maybe a little too fast for Maura on WWW. But they were in a groove the whole night. Check out the setlist. There will be more on the new songs later, but they were certainly a treat. After the first break Pete called out for requests and I called out for Commonbond. Pete didn't miss a beat and they began the song. A special guest was introduced after (or was it before) Pearl's Eye View. Maura met Edith "Jackie" Ronne, the first American woman to set foot on the south pole and a fascinating person. She has a web page called "From high heels to mukluks" which is a a great read. http://205.174.118.254/nspt/explore/heels01.htm 01/31/2002 - Jammin Java, Vienna, VA Life Is Large Didn't It Rain Get It Right Can't Kill Hope With A Gun Angels Cry Pick You Up Half Of Us Why Winona Why? Then word came to turn the tv on and we saw the news about the shuttle. So, the rest of the day was spent with me staring at the tv until we left for Andy's. Joanne was fine going over the bridge because it was dark out and we got to Andy's and promptly plopped down on a couch. A beer and burger later, Cadence Carroll took the stage and played a nice short set. I started out listening to Cadence play one song. Then two songs. Now 5. Pretty soon it should be a whole concert. :-) Pete and Maura played ALL the songs off their upcoming cd. There's also word that Pete will be releasing a "Shearwater type" recording with some original as well as classical pieces. So, there's plenty of product coming up. My favorite new songs are Stand, The Dharma Cafe, Raindrop & Anna and the Magic Gown. Oh, and Pilgrim. Stand is an inspiring song, while Dharma Cafe is vintage Kennedys fun. Anna... is a great celtic-type number that features Maura's higher range voice. The Things We Touch from their last CD is another one in her high range and they played it in concert for the first time ever. 02/01/03 - Andy's Setlist -- * = New Song Pick You Up Rappahannock Day In And Day Out Tupelo* Get It Right House On Fire Commonbond River of Fallen Stars Easy People Shearwater Orange Blossom Special BREAK Baby Stephen's Green The Dharma Cafe* Stand* Happytown Chelsea Embankment Raindrop* Jesse Tribe I'm Not You Mystery Bells & Loaves & Letters Ashes & Sand* Pilgrim* Sunday The Things We Touch BREAK Miracle Mile* Dance Around* Anna & The Magic Gown* When I Go --> All Along the Watchtower --> Eight Miles High --> Never Learn Run the Red Horses Ok, that's the road trip report. Here's the link to the pictures in case you missed it: http://home.attbi.com/~donsem2/kennedys020103.htm I'm serious. Plan a Kennedys road trip. There are a couple motels in town you can stay at or make the drive back. Just don't pass an ambulance even if he made you drive for 10 minutes under the speed limit with his lights flashing in your eyes. (no, the nice police officer didn't give me a ticket). don "There are no passengers on spaceship earth.
